  1. my sister's Honda Accord gets 22.1 mpg, not very well tuned though, and my 87 GL gets 23.442. I think the fact that the older Subarus could run on just 2wd most of the time probably gives them an edge over the newer AWD Subarus. but the old ones are so darn boxy, I guess it's a fair trade-off.
  2. This stuff could be the end of the TOD... I don't know if that's good or bad, lol.
  3. thanks alot. i'll be taking care of plenty tomorrow... i'm so exited!! i'm gonna dedicate my whole entire day to BECKY!!!! haha
  4. how do I adjust the drive belts? and I also hear a squeaking coming from the gear shift when the car is running. what the hell is that? and how do I adjust the clutch? it seems to slip into gear only when the clutch is almost fully out.
  5. i started my car today (it's raining)... and there was a very loud screeching. is this just water on the drive belts? and the defroster fan won't even blow any air..... how do i fix this? and also... how do I adjust the drive belts? i think they might be too lose.
  6. I tell ya what, I LOVE being different. these guys with their ricers can rat on my old wagon all they want but all you gotta say it "I bet you can't screw your girlfriend in the back seat... DOGGYSTYLE." ... and they'll usually shut up and yeah... anytime somebody wants to race me, I just give them directions to a particular dirt road.... and they either don't have the balls to race or always lose their nerve when the hit the first trench. If that doesn't stop them, the mud will. I just can't get over the fact that they're so freakin vain... and so very materialistic. if their rims aren't real chrome.... then their own car isn't good enough for them. If you ask me, good ol' fashion steel is the best choice anyday. Respect? I don't need THEIR respect. I got my soob and my family. What more do I need? The soob is almost the perfect vehicle... easy to work on, the boxer engine has so many advantages over inline fours it's not even funny, 4 wheel drive D/R, plenty of room, and good gas mileage. I love my Subaru. Not many people can say they love their riced-out Honda, even though they poured $3000 into it to make it a few seconds quicker... that's not counting all the speeding tickets. Ya see, in a Subaru, you're either too slow to get a speeding ticket or you're too fast to get caught by the cops:rolleyes: .
  7. if this is a joke, I'm gonna be really pissed off.
  8. yeah, my 87 only has 160,000 on the odometer. runs great..... and i noticed it seems like the older soobs last longer. ea81 better..??? or at least longer lasting.
  9. my hill-holder clutch stopped working when i got back from school today. I was going to pick up my friend at work and on the way up the hill, i noticed it didn't hold like it usually does. let off the brake, kept rolling... and i was in 1st gear. how do i fix this?
  10. I haven't seen that kind of air since the last time I watched Dukes of Hazzard. what did that do to the car?
  11. Has anybody ever come up with the idea of somehow creating a locking rear diff that could more easily be locked and unlocked? Broncos have that, as do other serious off-road vehicles. thanks
  12. you guys are gonna make me cry..... i miss my old soob. =[
  13. soobmater, does yours have an LSD? i'm wanting to get an LSD, but if I can do fine off-roading without one then i won't buy one.
  14. if i'm gonna be doing some mud slinging.... should i get an LSD or should i be a real man and get stuck? lol... I'm gonna get an LSD first, maybe from a junkyard or something... I got an old buddy who has so many damn Subarus it's almost pathetic how many just sit and rust away... his oldest one is a 1972 Subie..... but it's also sitting at the bottom of a ditch behind his property... kinda sad, such a nice car.
  15. thanks Fox... instead of spending $450 on a weber carb, i'm gonna get headers, 2.5" exhaust with a high-flow cat, a k&n air filter, and a 3 inch lift. and I got under the car and looked on the back of my diff..... it said it was a 3.9 but i couldn't see anywhere that it said LSD... if it's a 3.9 does that automatically mean it's an LSD?
  16. there's an empty lot near my friends house that is used mostly as extra parking space. muddy, and there's a big dip where the edge of the road meets the worn, muddy ground. I used to park there with my '93 soob all the time, just pull in and put it in park. maybe even give it some gas and sling a little mud around to get my car nice and dirty . the first week that I was forced to drive my sisters 1990 Honda Accord coupe I went to his house and pulled in, and the front end hammered into the ground and I couldn't move. tried to reverse, stuck. i decided to shove some bricks behind the wheels and try to reverse that way, and that worked. I hate Hondas.
  17. does putting a lift on a Subie make it any worse on axles? it seems like it would since the angle between the middle of the wheel and the differential is more extreme... yet I haven't heard anybody whining about it. And do I need to get my gas tank cleaned out cuz it sat for a year and it seems to be clogging fuel filters kinda fast... and it won't hurt a carbed engine to completely run it out of gas will it? thanks, Jordan
  18. poor car..... it's probably crushed under all that snow. where do you freakin live anywayzz? lol
  19. I very rarely hear about 2 cars hitting head on. Most of the time it's collisions with trees or, in an SUV's case, rollovers. Rollovers, obviously, are deadly because you could very easily be ejected from the vehicle. Possibly even crushed under the vehicles own immense weight. This won't, most likely, happen with a car because of the lower center of gravity. Especially if you're in a Subaru with a boxer engine:grin: . When a much larger and heavier vehicle hits something like, say, a tree... there is much more cumpling and deforming of the frame because the vehicle is so heavy, the sheer momentum alone does a fair amount of it's own damage to the frame. In the real world cars usually run into ditches, hit trees, or in many cases vehicles will collide. But it isn't too common that it's a head on collision. I think instead of worrying about how safe we are and how high off the ground we are, we should worry about something called Global Warming... sound familiar to anybody? It's that thing that could throw off the delicate balance of the earth's climate and cause a major misbalance in the planet's ecosystems. Ever wonder why tomatos are so darn expensive? I'm not bashing all SUV owners or anything, but I'm sure everybody's seen the lady on her cell phone driving her Suburban or Excursion... right? Yeah, you've seen her. The lady with 2 kids and room for 9? Yep, that's her... not even so much as a trailer hitch. Is excess bliss or just wasteful? You tell me. supply..... DEMAND I may not be a rocket scientist, but something tells me this isn't the most intelligent way to run our country. If you drive an oversized SUV to feel safe, maybe it would be a good idea to quit being so selfish and give our country a fighting chance to be truly independant, if you know what I'm talking about. Sorry to anybody who took offense to this post. Tell me if this post could get this message board shut down... I'll apologize and respond accordingly if need be.
  20. when I had my '93 Loyale, I was getting 21 around town and 26.5 highway. in my GL, I'm getting 23 around town and 30 on the highway. maybe paying for middle grade gas isn't so bad after all, lol.
  21. it's a 5 speed Noah... I had a little fun at the lake yesterday.
