  1. Wouldn't an adapter plate do the trick just fine? And I would definitely at least have spfi pistons with, of course, spfi.
  2. Replaced front main seal on Weberized EA81 and also the radiator with low mileage junkyard unit. What a relief to not have oil spraying everywhere under the hood!!!
  3. Man I gotta get a job so I can get an EJ22 Legacy... I miss mine very much. This is a very well done job. Always remember to enjoy this car while you have it. They don't always last as long as we do...
  4. Man I like that color. That and the dark green were the best looking colors. Nice find, it definitely deserves another shot at being driven regularly.
  5. I understand the problem but you may want to post a pic so others can see how much the difference is in the gap. My friend has a 2012 Impreza with the guards and has not complained about it.
  6. I'd say it also depends on the width of your tires. I've got pretty narrow tires and I'm a big strong dude and I have plenty of trouble turning the wheel with one hand so either your big enough to at least say so or full of crap.
  7. I would think if you ever go wheeling, it would be nice to have power steering. I drive a 2door dl with manual steering now and I prefer the feel of the manual FAR more than the power steering. But it does get to be a pain parallel parking or making sharp turns. Totally depends on what you do on a regular basis. For road trips, curvy roads, or mild trails manual steering would be just fine. Dense city driving with parallel parking and wheeling on rougher trails, it would make more sense to stick with what you already have the hardware for. I say just look for a non-leaky power steering rack.
  8. Pretty sure that'll be the sohc 2.5 in whatever Forester you buy in those years. The only other engine would be turbo and honestly I don't even have a clue if your market would have any. I'm no expert on the "newer" stuff but whatever you look at will have the sohc 2.5. The only thing to look out for are external headgasket leaks. I believe the driver side was more suseptible.
  9. Why would the sedan struts be any different? I've swapped struts between sedans and wagons plenty of times and didn't notice any difference in ride height on any of my EA82s, and I like plenty of clearance so I tend to pay attention. I could see there being a difference between 2wd and 4wd as the trailing arm mount is lower on the 2wd models... I've had 4wd struts on a 2wd and it still rode low. I think the difference is in the mount on the trailing arm but I could be a little off on that.
  10. Ever GL I've ever had (4) had rear speakers and rear dome light. Hell, even my old Loyale had those features. No trip computers or digital clusters though. The only things the GL-10s came with that GLs didn't were trip computers, cruise, digi dashes, sunroofs and the nicer seats.
  11. Could also be an axle. Is it rpm related or more speed related?
  12. Do the Weber. Super simple installation, cleans up the engine bay, and they're VERY easy to rebuild. I have read several times that the kit never comes with everything you need. You may be better off getting everything seperately. Adapter plate, carb, shorter air filter, and the little bracket to re-position your throttle cable. I used a little redneck engineering for my throttle cable and it worked great.
  13. The coolant was a bit low but looked clean, oil was full. Glass is in good shape, didn't check the tranny grease. Another plus is today I found out about an old gen junkyard about 30 mins from here. That's a huge plus because the thing turning me away from the older Subes was the complete and utter lack of junkyard parts support. The nearest places to get parts would be either North Carolina or Virginia.
  14. 225,000 miles, rocker panels are a little rusted but otherwise it's solid and has the third headlight. It's been sitting for a little over a year because of a broken axle. A local Subaru mechanic who has been out of business for a few years rebuilt the motor, and the owner said when he rebuilds motors he holds it to the floor for several seconds upon first startup, logic being that if it's going to fly apart it's gonna do it right then (he was present at the time of first startup). That was 10,000 miles ago according to the current owner. Should I expect that motor to last? I probably drive about 10,000 miles a year, so if I can get a few years out of it then that's good enough. These cars are hard to come by, especially as non-rotten as this car. What do you guys think it's worth? I have not heard it run, I plan to take a battery over there in about a week and being sure the 4wd works. It's not perfect, but it's a nice example of an older Subaru for these parts. I'd like to get away from EA series cars but if I can get this one for a fair price I'll go for it. Thoughts?
  15. I was totally under the impression that for the resting position you were supposed to stand the top plate on it's edge so the float just hung there and only touched the tiny little valve (power valve?), but didn't compress it. That's the way it's described in the directions that came with my weber rebuild kit, and tutorials on youtube explain it the same way.
  16. I've got an '84 DL 2 door and if that thing had spfi and didn't leak so much... I'd keep it. I love all the manual stuff, but I think technology does have it's place. SPFI is a Godsend, but '80s electric windows are just bad news. I've seen some late 80s DLs as well that had spfi and manual windows. You've got a good set up. KEEP IT FOREVER.
  17. Yes my '84 DL coupe had an EA71 in it. Still got the motor sitting in the shed.
  18. My friends '07 Forester blew a headgasket after a hose blew and it overheated, but it had just shy of 150,000 and it had some performance upgrades. Judging by the ride (worn out shocks) and scrapes here and there on the undercarriage, it was probably driven pretty hard. The car ran GREAT and shifted nice and smooth despite a rough life. If it hadn't overheated, I'd say it would have lasted a very very long time.
  19. Yeah the thing that sucks about EA82s is you either get spfi but CRAPPY electric windows with crappy switches, or you get awesome manual windows with a CRAPPY carburetor. It might be time to upgrade to an EJ as your daily.
  20. I don't know if it's an issue with EA cars, but on EJs you run the risk of snapping the capture nuts for the tranny crossmember loose if you drop the trans. Has happened to me on BOTH EJ cars I've dropped transmissions on. Never again. But like I said, that might not be an issue on EA cars.
  21. The comment about Hondas getting broken into is definitely true. My sisters '97 Civic (which in harsh city conditions, fell apart) got broken into 3 TIMES, 2 of which nothing was stolen because there was nothing in the car. She's had her '96 Legacy for 2 years now, NO BREAK-INS. Subarus are for the real world, plain and simple. The real world is a harsh place full of potholed streets, curbs, and thieves. Honda does not know this apparently.
  22. Why are they picking on your little Loyale? You can't even compare the two. They're built for totally different purposes so why even waste your time?
  23. You think maybe a transmission crossmember bolt is loose and the rocking of the trans under decel/accel is jiggling it around? You said you checked for loose stuff but even if you grabbed it and tried to wobble it, it probably wouldn't move...
