if you have a hill holder that acts as a return spring, i would consider having some one operate the clutch pedal while you look at the fork-my fork worethrough at the ball stud on the bellhousing, and kept the clutch from operating.....

without getting into the political ramifactions of why ethonal from corn is a croc, yes E85 is cheaper, but if your vehicle is not designed for it you can be asking for BIG trouble-corrosion, eating rubber, drivability issues, etc. etc. Also the big thing to remeber is the energy value of alcohol is MUCH less than gasoline(about half IIRC) so the mpgs will be much less, so the price per gallon is not a real fair comparision-look at cents per mile. if you have a flex fuel vehicle like the GM's and others fine. if your car was designed for gas,stick with it

Don't tempt me to run up there! get up to Rolla(my college alma matter) and Macon Mo area quite a bit for families, have wedding in Ark. weekend of your bash (a Springfied native,and college mate), so have to miss-take plenty of pix, the shots of the STL get together looked great! Maybe next time...... -
New Subaru Commercial With Brat

The 2 old subaru commercials I thought stood out were: 1) the one showing 4x4 vehicles as being clumbsy/cumbersome, the big truck turning into an elephant trying to be manuvered around city streets, and then showing a late 70s wagon as a sharp contrast to what were most of the 4x4's available then 2) it starts out with a farmer telling his son, do what you think and the son drives off to town in a hatch(I think). The father then sees him tearing up the road coming back into the farm in his new sports car, and exclaims when he stops, I thought we agreed you were going to get another subaru? the son answers, but dad I did!(he was driving an XT6) -
1980 ea71 GL-5 - Voltage Regulator?

The 1980 I had was an external regulator, i believe one of the last years they used an external. I find rockauto.com an excellent resource for looking up part numbers to check compatibility-give that a shot. In any case it is prolly something that can be fixed fairly easily, check VR, alt , witing etc. let us know if you score the car! -

Wait a minute, there are quite a few newer subes here and even some older ones....have a couple of the moderators here in the DFW as well Subaru3 and calebZ.....I see quite a few legacy/forsester/outbacks, many from the Teape dealerships. I have a gray faded Legacy from 91, and saw a red Loyale in good shape yesterday on way home from work.......keep eyes peeled, there here...... -
91 legacys were both FWD and AWD...my 91 is FWD.... Prolly worth it if you have a place to store/fix up...I don't really have that luxury at present with a 2 car garage, 4 running vehicles and a city agreessive on vehicle code enforcement. If you can afford it, you could prolly part it out for twice the price or fix it up and have a good running car if the damage is not too bad and some maintainance was done previously-my 91 has 291,500 miles and still my wifes daily driver....

My Legacy had money everwhere-change and even a few dollar bills around in ashtray, change tray, console, under seat and even in spare tire cover area! My sunfire when i went to retrieve a dropped bolt next to the battery I spied a 10mm ratcheting wrench used for side battery terminals, apparently left over from a battery change-has come in handy since!

According to the service manuals I had for my 80 4wd wagon, the 4wd models came with the belt driven fan. But I bought mine from a import shop that had done an engine swap from jy and never got paid, it had the electric fan. so what was original and not who knows. As far as if you dont know if your fan works or not, if it dont work you will know-my fan control thermostat went out and it would over heat when stopped in traffic caus the fan wouldnt come on.

Well, just replaced mine today, Prostart from Pepboys lifetime warrenty. First went out in 1998, first one lasted 24 ours, 2nd one lasted 8 1/2 years, and then from 11/2006 till today. They gave me a Bosch rebuilt as a replacement. Thing that is maddening in all cases iof failure is alt light on car does not come on unitil batt is almost dead, and car starts cutting out. I was driving car today and radio started cutting out, made me suspicious and did the voltmeter test when I got home-myconclusions were confimed upon taking back to store with tester and walking out with replacement unit. I do agree quality of rebuilds can vary, but Ihave had pretty good luck with most from the chain stores. A very good friend had a starter/alternator rebukd business in central Illinois now, too far for me to use but if any one in that area needs a high quality rebuild job....

Also, it is said, when the gasoline waws refourulated with an adfditive (MMT or the new oxygenated fuels I dont remeber) back in the mid 90's then it attacked many rubber fuel componenets and there seemed to be a larger numer of car fires, esp in "older" cars at the time. could hardly make a run of over a hundered miles or so without seeing a car fire or fresh shell by side of road.

Saw almost every day since xmas-at the kwik car lube at harwood and norwood-sometimes in parking lot and in bays after hours on my drive home from work-anybodys on the board? Pretty fair shape, from drive by looking....figure somebody is getting a lot of work done or one of the employeees working on in spare time....

my 2 cents, on my 91 even FWD only I did the first clutch by pulling trans-never again, as most work is under car and getting trans back in is a pain. I was given an engine hoist a few yeears back so it is easier for me to work from top and pull engine part way out, I had to replace the clutch fork and then 6 months later replace the clutch. Get the flywheel milled if it is glaxed or scored, and my LUK clutch kit(from pepboys)came with alignmenttool and new clips for the TO bearing.
