  1. What radiators are you using? I know for a fact that the tanks on both radiators on both our xts are metal.
  2. I have a 2 core that my father bought 17 years ago, but we have another xt we want to restore. It should also have a dual core, we are looking in to taking the stock radiator in to a custom shop and having them add the second row. Step-a-toe, I am unfamiliar with the term std in regards to vehicle parts. What do you mean a std twin core could be modded to fit?
  3. What was the ea82 in? An xt or a third gen Leone? Will the 2 core from the loyale fit in an xt?
  4. I have done some looking and while you can get new tanks for the Leone sedans and the XTs, its pretty much impossible to get a tank for the brats and wagons. My main problem, is that the studs that hold the fuel sender on rust and snap. I am thinking the best route to go, for the brat anyway is to buy plastic fuel cells. If you measure and get the right size you should be able to get even more fuel capacity than stock. You have alot of unused space under the bed near the fuel pump and filter, that is where you can fit some extra capacity with the fuel cells. Hang them from the "frame rails" with self drilling screws and stainless steel bands, then if you feel they need protection from road debris hang some slabs of rubber between them and the road. The rubber belts for grain cups at the local Mill should do nicely. Connect the various fuel cells with rubber lines from bottom to bottom and run them in series. Never done this yet myself, but is something I have researched and highly considered. Hope this helps and good luck.
  5. I have an EA82T in an 86 XT turbo that i'm hoping to give an aftermarket ECU for tuning purposes. A couple of forums I read suggested the megasquirt ECUs, a little more research said the meagsquirt series 2 would probably be the best to use. Is there anything anyone can tell me about this ECU and how it interacts with this engine? Is there major modifications needed to install it to this car, or is it plug-n-play or damn near it? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  6. Yeah, I noticed my little screw up later and edited it. I know none of the BRATs had a 4 speed auto.
  7. I'm comfortable with a fairly high price actually, as I want to keep this car alive. I will save up over time if their really expensive. As for the custom not really stock bit, I just need to know what's closest. I think I know how to get the level sensing working, and as I said my compressor and lines are fines. I'll even make custom mounts for the new struts if I have to. I just need to know what aftermarket struts are closest to the XT so I can hopefully have a fairly easy time making the new mounts, if indeed new custom mounts are needed. Thanks for the info you already provided, as I said all info is appreciated and could very well help.
  8. Hey all. I have an 86 XT Turbo that will need new air suspension fairly soon in the future. I want to keep it stock, no conventional coil over suspension. Anyone know what after market air suspension parts can be the most easily adapted to this system? The compressor, tank and lines are fine just need the struts/bags. Completely stock parts are impossible to find and i'd like them to be less prone to leaking anyway, so any help is greatly appreciated.
  9. From all i know and have learned about these cars none of the Xts had a 3 speed auto, that was the auto equipped BRATs and wagons. Even the early 85 and 86 XTs had 4 speed autos.
  10. sparkyboy, the xt had the compressor and tank located in the drivers side fender in front of the wheel under the battery tray.
  11. I have an EA82T out of an 86 XT Turbo that needs a new fast idle solenoid on the manifold. I have already checked rockauto and not found anything. I have a parts engine I can get one off of, but I was wondering if anyone knows if or where i could get a new one?
  12. I have an 86 BRAT that needs a new oil pump, now I have learned that these pumps are ridiculously hard to get these days. For now I am getting an original replacement pump, however odds are I will have to replace it again at some point in time. Lots of you will probably say to just engine swap an EJ in, but I want to keep this vehicle as stock as possible. So here is the question, does anyone know if it is possible to get an adapter for these pumps? You can get an adapter to relocate the filter, so I'm wondering if there is an adapter to get this engine to accept a different, aftermarket oil pump? Thanks in advance, long live the EA engines :).
  13. That hole could have been installed by a previous owner for an air to fuel ratio gauge.
  14. Well, I did actually find a couple of people through here that could get me a good one. As for the EJ swap, honestly i would never do that. I want to keep my BRAT as stock as I can if at all possible. If I had to, a machine shop said they could make me a new one of the broken piece of the pump for 500, which is still probably less than an EJ swap. If I do end up having to do an engine swap in the future I plan to put an EE20 horizontal diesel subaru engine in. I know for a fact it would fit as it is actually slightly smaller than the EJ engine, then it would get better fuel mileage and I could run it on homemade biodiesel.
  15. Greetings, I had heard that at one point in time a company had made tuner chips for the ECU on an EA82T engine on the turbo XTs. Anyone know where I could acquire such a tuner chip? Or if there are any new tuner chips that the ECU in a XT Turbo would accept? Thanks.
  16. Alright, I have an 86 BRAT that needs a new oil pump. I was originally just going to reseal it, but I've since read that that is fairly pointless with these due to the fact that they warp or break upon removal. The odds that I could reseal this one anyway is pretty low due to the fact that it is in fairly rough shape. So can anyone tell me where to get a new oil pump? I know their rare and I haven't been able to find one. I checked rockauto and summit racing. Is there someone that could perhaps build me one custom? Any help is appreciated, also does anyone know if the pump from the EA71 will fit the EA81? Thanks.
  17. I have an 86 BRAT that the weather seals look like they are in pretty bad shape, the insulation isn't good either so I'm looking to replace it all. Anyone know where i can find some decent weather stripping for this car? Perhaps a kit of some sort? I want to redo it ALL. Thanks in advance.
  18. I had the same issue with my 86 BRAT. A new radiator cap and a thorough Radiator flush did the trick.
  19. Alright here it goes. I have a 1986 Subaru BRAT GL. It has some incredibly irritating idle issues. It will idle fine just after start up and around town, about 700 RPM just like the factory manual says is the sweet spot. However after getting up to highway speed you step on the clutch to shift from third to forth gear, and instead of the engine speed dropping it shoots up to nearly 5000 RPM. If you need to slow down to turn off the highway, and you step on the clutch it will "idle" at around the 5000 RPM point again. It comes and goes, I can make a trip from point A to point B with it having this issue. Then when I make the return trip to town and have to go to lower speeds, sometimes it will begin idling correctly for no apparent reason. We have checked for vacuum leaks and believe we have eliminated all the lines as possible cause. Whoever worked on it last had replaced the high and low speed lines without putting in the required orfices, so we fixed that with high hopes and got nothing. I have done lots of research and have several other things to try. Such as cleaning the EGR valve, doing a complete rebuild as I know it likely needs it, and replacing the the whole entire Hitachi if when I pull it again the throttle shaft bushings are shot. I will keep experimenting, but any advice could help. As for the people that will likely insist the only solution is to chuck the Hitachi in a bin and get a Weber, I might do that in the future but I want to keep this car as factory as I can. Any help is appreciated.
