FWD light?
espey_16 replied to espey_16's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Yeah I should've thought about that, it was a stick. There were a few wagons from the early 90s there, so if that rear dosnt work I still have options. How would I do a quick junk yard check to see if the diff is any good besides check the oil? My dads rear didn't make that howling right away and it wasn't constant, it was just kind of random. Thanks guys for all the help so far. -

Are there any differences between the 91 and 93 rear diffs other than possibly different gear ratios? I noticed when I picked up the driveline out of the 93, the front half was longer. I'm planning on grabbing the rear out of the same car. -

Hey guys sorry its been so long to update. My dad went and got a couple tires put on the legacy and noticed the rear half of the driveline was missing. So I went to the JY yesterday and got the driveline and the guard that covers the pinion, put them on and took it for a drive. The trip was only about 1/4 mile, then it started making an off and on howling noise. So I limped the car home and put it in the air and started it up. I had my dad put it in drive while I looked under the car to see where the noise was coming from. Its definatly coming from the rear diff. I checked the fluid level, it was black as hell but it was still full. Do you guys think its only the fluid? Or should I go rip off a differential with the same gears and put that one in? Sorry for the long post y'all. -

The tires are all 185/70/14 but they're all mis-matched. They do have about the same amount of tread though. -

Thats weird there's not supposed to be a fuse. I guess I should go take it back out again. Thank you for all the fast replies guys. -

I guess I could go find a gravel road and try breaking the tires loose to see if its working. When I pulled the fuse I only drove slow, I think 35mph max. -

Ok, I just tried this out. I pulled the fuse it was a 15 amp, and went down the road and did a few u turns but didnt feel any bind. It drove the same as it did with the fuse in. -

So if I pull the fuse the awd might come on? When I drove the car I accidentally broke the tires loose but it was only the fronts, the rears didn't kick in. -
Hey guys, my dad just bought a 91 legacy wagon and the fwd light is on in the dash. Where should I start trouble shooting? I dont have any experience with awd so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ok one more question, I know what the manual button does, but what about the black button on the front of the shifter plate?

You guys got Bills cruiser stuck???

Thanks, yeah Im just swapping engines, nothing else. I blew a head gasget a while ago, and I had a spair motor to throw in while I rebuild the other.

Hey yall, Im in the middle of swapping an EA81 from an 86 hatch 4x4, into an 82 sedan 2wd. I have the flywheels swapped and a new clutch, and new head, intake, valve cover, exaust, and oil filler gasgets installed. The problem I came across is, the distributer from the 82, has a 3 wire plug on it, and the one from the 86, has only 2 wires. Is it ok to swap the disty from the 82 engine, onto the 86 engine???

I have an 88 subaru DL ea82 that needs new cv axles. I need to know if I need 23 spline or 25 spline axles. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

That thing is cool

so with a t-case mod your d/r stick becomes stationary in 4 high, and when you want 4wheel drive you just use the nissan stick?
-
Ok so yesterday I couldnt get the plugs out, and I didnt want to pull my head (though I probably should have), so I just pulled off the rocker arms, and took a 14mm socket and pounded the plugs the rest of the way in. Will the plugs be prone to popping out now, and if they do come out, how will I know?
-
Will Permatex 77B work? Thats what I used for my valve covers. And, yesterday I tapped each one in about half way, how would I get those back out without pulling the heads? Would a heat gun work?
-
There are 3 per head, 1 on each side and 1 in the top middle, how do you install those? Thanks for the help, with my clutch and this problem GD.
-
It might have, I went away for a year, and while I was gone my friend pulled the engine.
-
I pulled my valve covers off today to replace the gasgets, and there was a plug sitting in each head. It was the same plug on each side. What does that mean? I tapped each one in as well as I could, But neither one went all the way in. Will this cause me any problems later? Thank you.

Wow I want one of those:slobber:! That bumper is awesome.

Ok I'm just going to put it on and see what happens, I took pictures but I cant find my usb cord to get them on the computer. Last night I had the thought that they gave me a kit for an EA-82, because they never asked me "EA-81, or EA-82?", they just said "1.8 litre? Carbed or injected?", but rereading what was already written it cant be an EA-82 clutch because the disk fits on my spair tranny. And yes the 86 engine is from a 4x4

Will I have to buy a smaller flywheel?
