  1. On my 86 GL I had no doors and got pulled over twice, but not for the doors. As long as you have proper restraints they shouldn't be able to do anything. I got pulled over for having my stock rims flipped inside out so the tires stuck out the fenders.
  2. Ok I had an extra caliper in front of me and the computer, I haven't done this on the car yet. I was using a pair of channel locks to turn it.
  3. Ok I can turn it but it dosn't look like its moving into the caliper
  4. Ok this should be simple, but how do you compress the pistin in the brake calipers? I tried useing a c-clamp but that didn't work.
  5. Thanks guys for helping me fix this problem. I flipped those outer washers around, grabed my wrench with the persuation bar and tightened those babies down. Now she goes like a bat out of hell:burnout:
  6. Will the cone washers still be useable even though a little bit of each one is rubbed off? And can I just flip the outer washers over and call it good?
  7. I dont have a torque wrench so I just cranked down on it. The dished washer is the outer washer right? Now that you mentioned it (just went outside and looked), I never thought about the way that that washer is supposed to go on. the convex is the tapered side right, because I put the tapered side toward the hub. It's all coming clear to me now. Correct me if I'm wrong, the cone washer goes on then the other washer goes on tapered side out.
  8. Ok the ol 2 wheel drive is driving me insane:banghead:. Ok not really driving. I just want to drive it off a cliff. I got it with bad CV's, so I replaced them (Reman), then a wheel hub strips out, so I replaced both of them (Salvage Yard), calipers crap out bought 1 new got the other at SY. Replaced berrings and seals on both sides too. Now the front end is still going CLUNK, SNAP, CLICK, SNAP:mad:. It was only in turns when I went to town yesterday, but when I started coming home it didn't stop. Today I lifted up the front end to see what was going on underneath, and I grabbed a wheel and wiggled it back and forth, and noticed the cone washer was being shaved apart like pencil shavings(on both wheels). Am I tightening the castle nut too much? Could the CV's be going out again? The boots aren't torn. Did I forget to replace anything? I don't know what to do:confused:
  9. Thats soooooooo sweet:headbang:. Good work man, about how long did the tear down / rebuild process take?
  10. Go to a junk yard, they're cheap and plentiful
  11. Is the axel nut the castle nut? If so what torque? I went to Les Schwab and they told me it was wheel berrings going bad. Also yesterday when I went to the auto parts store they said that they have everything for both sides (this is my first time replacing wheel berrings so I didn't know there were 2 berrings and seals per side), and they just gave me 2 unsealed berrings and 2 seals. I got everything pulled apart and saw that I had to use both berrings on the one side, and when I put it back together I compared the seals and they were the wrong ones . I don't know if this is good or not but I'm using the old seals until I get the proper ones. Another thing, I probably wasted money in getting berrings but can I just pack the old ones with new grease? They didn't look too bad.
  12. Ok I just replaced both cv axels, hubs, rotors, and brake calipers on my 81 gl 2wd, but now I have to replace wheel berrings, and seals on both sides and I'm not quite sure how to do it. Could some one please help me?
  13. KC Daylighters would be sweet
  14. Just the other day I tried to order a brake caliper mounting bracket from schucks, and the lady said I had to buy the whole caliper to get it. So I was like ok order the caliper, the stupid thing cost $65. While I was on the phone I also ordered 2 wheel hubs for $35 a piece, ouch. Well when the parts came in (my sister went to get them and didn't check), and showed up at home I looked in the box for a wheel hub, the idiots got me the brake rotors not hubs. And when I looked in the box that the caliper was in, guess what no mounting bracket. I was heated about this and took all that crap back. After that I just went to the junk yard and got all my parts for $40.
  15. Ok about a week ago I replaced the cv axels in my sisters 81 GL 2wd 5speed and everything was going all good, but yesterday when I was going to the store it started grinding again. First I thought I stripped a front hub, because it sounded like the axel was spinning on the splines. So I got a ride home to pull a hub off my suby just so I could get the car home. Well I got the hub on the car and when I wanted to drive, I had a friend watch the cv axel just in case it did it again. When I was pulling out of the drive way, it did it again but my friend said it wasn't the hub that was making the noise, but it was coming from under the hood. Now I'm wondering if I have to replace a tranny or something:banghead:
  16. yeah i thought it had something to do with that pin on the tranny side, i just wasn't sure. the book i have for the sub isn't clear on anything. thank you guys for helping me out.
  17. my sister just got a 1980 subaru gl 2wd but the cv axels are no good. i went to the auto parts store and got two new axels, but i cant get the old ones off. what do i do? i have everything off except the axel itself. any help would be greatly appreciated.
  18. thats nice , some people are so lucky:banghead: good find:headbang:
  19. Now I got a question, will this procedure work on an EA81 as well?
