  1. Hey! This is still probably the best advice I have found anywhere on the web. You clearly understand a great deal about these radios. I have finally had the time to find my unit on Subaru website and was able to find a similar item on Ebay as an example. From my understanding its set up as two DIN even though the actual radio itself is only 1 DIN intself. The company is Matsushita Panasonic. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2006-Subaru-Forester-FM-CD-Player-Radio-ID-86201SA021-OEM-TESTED-STOCK/352817197294?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D40719%26meid%3Dc4c5b2e624404a65af7f0b6960b38199%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D113876767871%26itm%3D352817197294%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Any further pointer, greatly appreciated! Also by rocker switch are you reffering to a a regualr on off electrical switch at a smaller size (electrical board sizes) Excuse the noobness.
  2. Hey Lightning, Thank You Ill give this a try, simply because I want to hear my music in my car already! The product you reccd. is Free Returns on Amazon so in any case, if it does not work nothing to lose there. However I will keep researching and working on the project to get the hardwired AUX mod in. After all hardwired connections do create a huge difference in audio quality in my experience, and I would appreciate less new style looking gadgets on my nice 2006 nostalgia trip.
  3. Good morning everyone, Curious to know if anyone has any experience or pointers for this desire of mine to add an AUX port to my car. I have some tech experience ( assembling my own PC ) but nothing extensive ( I have never soldered anything, and I would say zero electrical skill .) This is an 06 Forester, the most base model, as I have mentioned in the topic, I wasn't able to find anything for that specific car on Youtube. People seem to be doing plenty "easy" AUX adds on other models though. If someone has suggestions or pointers for this project would be greatly appreciated... I need to hear those Joe Rogan podcasts on the car stereo!
  4. Aha, thats interesting my mechanic friend I already told you about said that filling up with full synthetic is a false comfort because with older machines and depending on road dust/pollution conditions the oil may need to be changed every 3000k ANYWAY, thus making full synth irrelevant.
  5. My manual indicates that the best OIL for my Vehicle is 5W-30. I am trying to decide between Conventional and Synthetic Blend Valvoline Brand for that viscosity. Any advice?
  6. Which Model do you have? And what is ATF? Sorry, I am new to cars... this is my first car I've been a motorcyclist/cold weather car rent guy my whole life until this point.
  7. Thank you guys for all the advice. There's definitely a lot of different methods as I can tell from the responses but the consensus seems to be that the shop guy whom I called is worried about something that does not worry any of you and that I should definitely change the transmission oil. Now its up to me to decide which method is best. I still haven't read the manual by the way which I intend to do before I take any course of action anyways. But in general I am curious to know how often do you guys change Transmission Fluid on your machines? While reading the replies this question has also occurred: What happens if I cant find out whether last used TF was Synthetic or Mineral based? Will I damage the machine if I choose the incorrect one? Can harm come from mixing the two? Also if there anyone in Brooklyn who has a trusted guy who is not a dealer to whom you entrust your Subaru maintenance please do share!
  8. Hi guys, I am looking for seat covers to protect my stock seats and to enable easier cleaning of the car. Preferably light gray/ colors( to prevent seats heating up too much) but maybe something with light grey and some navy or blue would be perfect as well. Also: What are people using currently? All suggestions welcome.
  9. The previous owner said that it was total dealer service, go figure what that means. My guy checked the color of the transmission oil and said that its NOT TERRIBLE.... and also told me that this kind of change can in no way be done in the same way as a regular oil change. There is actually a special machine that is needed to pull out ALL of the old oil completely (it doesn't drain entirely from the sump alone, the way engine oil does.) He said that if you don't use the special machine to pull out the oil a large quantity will remain. This added to the new transmission oil added will create an untenable volume inside the transmission, which will trash it within 20k miles. The local mechanic in Brooklyn here confirmed this fact.
  10. Hi there guys, I just bought an 2006 Forester, automatic transmission, with 154k miles in it. A friend of mine who is a mechanic has recommended that I take it to a professional shop and have the transmission oil changed. I called one such place and the guy there flat out told me not to do it, therefore losing my business but strangely gaining my trust... Any thoughts?
