CV joint, wheel bearings or what?
BlueSoob replied to spideyz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yep.. I just got the bearings done in my 87 Brat. It was making a scraping/ swishing sound. It didn't matter which way i turned. It was pretty consistant. Mine even pulled a little to one side. BUT here's the good news. I was able to ask around and found some 60$ (for the pair) wheel bearings. A nice local tire shop took it and in about 2 hours had it done for 100$. Hey! Not having to fight with a hammer and a 2x4 is worth 100$ to me! -

MOAB meet April 15, 16, 17.
BlueSoob replied to the sucker king's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Is there a solid plan yet? I need to plan for my days off.... Oh.. and will there be room for two others and a small pup somewhere in, on, or around someone's car? (So that the Toyota doesn't mess up the Feng Shi of the line of Subies) -
Yah know-- I had a 2003 Subaru Forester. It covered a lot of distance with very diverse terrain. I traded it in on a Toyota this past January. I must admit. For what I use my car for, the truck makes alot more sense. (However, the Toyota makes dirt roads and hills much less challenging) BUT I still have a couple of OLD Subarus sitting in my driveway. I intend on keeping those. I feel there was much more quality in the 80s and early 90s Subarus than there is today. I put my 88 GL through absolute hell when I had it. It just kept going. My 93 Legacy seemed even more tough. (Don't ask about what I did to it- use your imagination) Get an older one. Served me well.

Hey- I don't know if I'll be bringing the brat (I'll probably have doggie with me and I need a little more inside space.. plus I'm still trying to make it suitable for road trips). And I know you guys are probably going for the "Subaru Brotherhood" BUT I was actually planning on visiting my parents in Wyoming that week. I was wondering... is it too much to ask... if I could be scribbled in as a tenative "yes" to the Moab thing? Yes I'm a girl and Yes I'll probably be driving the Toyota... I promise that as long as I get to ride in someone's car on some of the trails, I'll not be a nag or whine about my shoes getting dirty. (HAHAHA!) -
What kind of driving are you doing? What has the temperature been? My 03 Forester X would eat up oil (almost a quart every 5000 miles) if I had been driving hard or if the temperature of the car/engine was a bit on the higher side. I'm sure with the XT it would be even more likely. Coming from a world of older Subarus, I was not shocked at this at all. There could be any number of reasons. Then again. The dealership found an oil leak in one of the valve covers at 40,000 miles too...
-
When I first bought my 03 Forester, I was getting 28-32 mpg mixed driving. Oddly enough, I started dropping over the next 2 years. Last month it ranged in the 23-26 mpg. And this was with a 5spd and regular and religious maintenance. MPG were more consistant in the 93 Auto 2.2 Legacy I had previously.. which stuck around 26-28.

Come on.. He only rolled 7 times. Does it help to hit the brakes in mid air??

I dug out all my receipts from warrenty repairs and trips to the dealership for problems. I have 77,000 miles on him right now. I counted 11 times that I have been to the dealership over CELs, Airbags, HGs, ECMs, Clutch, etc. I change my oil with synthetic every 5000 miles. 95% of my driving is highway. That is a trip to the dealership every other oil change. What the HELL? SOOOO I've decided to start taking bets. Instead of turning this one in ASAP, I've decided to see how long it stays running. Now I'm not sure if I will push it over a cliff before it hits 100k but I'm taking guesses at the miles that the stupid 2.5 will hold. WHen it dies... hopefully soon... I'm planning on dropping a 2.2 in. Then its only a matter of.. how long will the forester hold up?
-
WHEN WILL IT END!?!! My airbag light came on for the 5th time in 18 months the other day. The service department told me that it wasn't covered under warrenty. It was yet ANOTHER wiring service fix that Subaru came up with. Tell me. Do the safety systems have their own warrenty? They told me it wasn't covered. Plus, since it was a service issue and has been a problem in other Foresters, wouldn't it classify almost as a recall?? Or will it just stay as a service bulliten? At what point will I have to start forkin over the cash? 2003 Forester 80k

Well - I've been on the move ever since WCSS and I haven't had much personal time. I finally decided to take a break and go on a short bit of vacation. I will be heading from NW Washington to Wyoming (Over to Laramie) and then back. I have not decided the routes that I"m going to take. If anyone needs any parts or goodies transported between parts of OR, WA, ID, UT, MT, CO, WY then let me know and we could possibly arrange something Its good to finally have a bit of down time.. even if it means calling in sick to work. *ahhhhh* In between this that and the other thing, I"ve been trying to get things situated at work and buy a place of my own at the same time as paying off credit cards and closing accounts. All of this on top of my personal responsibilities is just killing me. I just need a little one on one time with the Forester (and my Brat) amanda

See, we DO have rust in Washington!

why did anyone bring this up!??? Ok ok... when I yawn this little stream comes from the back of my mouth... THERE! It was nice to finally put more faces with names. It was really cool to be back to attending the yearly meets. I've missed about every other one due to timing and such. But alas, not anymore if I can help it.
