Welcome- I think some of the other board members just got together last weekend in Bend... There are others nearby!!!

AMEN AMEN AMEN If you already have a good place to take the Subarus - a trusted mechanic and such, stick with what ya know. The Passat is a very boring car - nice but..zzzzzzzz. I haven't seen many VWs who don't venture to the shop frequently and know their mechanic's first and last name as well as their birthday and anniversary. I think that between a Legacy or Passat, the Legacy will handle the hill better. Or between the Legacy and the Forester.. I think thats more of just a handling choice.

I'm a little curious as to this drive by wire thing too I went and bothered a nearby dealership and drove both a legacy and outback.. i know, kinda redundant but he insisted. Personally, I didn't feel any differnet in it than I did my forester. The 2005 is much nicer looking in person than in pictures. It finally doesn't look like its trying to be a bigger car than it is. (I did not see OnStar in any of the 2005s they had on the lot- but that isn't to say that they aren't putting it in) Not sure I would go out and spend money on a car that I don't feel that excited about. Sure the seats were more comfortable than mine but is it worth spending 25000$ on it? (ps. The upholstery is much nicer in the Legacys In my opinion)

230,000?? Did you end up with my old GL? Its nice to see someone else from Co. 19 Wyo. One of the least populated areas in Wyoming. Hehe. How long have you had your Subaru? I had most of the Subarus memorized in SW wyoming about 7 years ago. (BTW- I'm from Evanston)

More stickers more stickers

Hehehe I've had both an 88GL wagon and a 93 Legacy bothe covered with stickers... I LOVE STICKERS unfortunately, the new 2.5 forester had no room on the back for stickers. oh well.. and i'm NOT... let me repeat.. NOT going to cover my BRAT with stickers. He's too beautiful for that. I just need to push out the dent in the tailgate and wax him up now... well.. and stop the coolant leaks in the engine.. he wasn't driven much by his former owners and now everything is cracking. *sigh* As you have figured out, a Brat driving Female on this board turns out very popular. Hell, I'm popular with it just sitting in my yard. The neighbors are all jealous.

You may just need to get your airbag inspected. Was it every 10 years that you are supposed to take it in to the Subaru Dealership and have them do an inspection on it? Maybe its just a reminder light to tell you to take it in. BUUUTTT don't assume it is that! My 2003 Forester has just had the airbag light come on for the 4th time. They have replaced one of my airbags, the module, fit it with a wiring kit from the factory bulliten and now AGAIN I have an airbag light on and and dealership can't figure out what in the hades is going on. I've gone through the whole airbag system in it. But why risk the stinky thing poppin out at ya for no reason. Take it in even though taking out the bulb would be the easiest thing to do (though not the thing that is sensible) hehehehe (believe me... I"m thinkin about doin the same thing- the important part here is, that I'm not.)

yah.. just take it back and get it fixed. My radio prob wasn't that bad... sometimes it likes to eat my CDs.. not give them back. And when I finally get them out, it won't take another one in... fickle... instead of mucking with it and fiddlefartin i'm just keeping my eye out for a stereo i like.. but thats me with an 03 w/ 50k good luck

Since we seem to have a variety of people on the USMB, I figured Someone Must Know about this mysterious new "Stop Leak" that Subaru is fixing their head gasket problems with. I've spoken with a few people about this and I have received bits and pieces of information. The dealership that I took my 03 Forester to when I had the HG had to call the Tech Line and get permission to use this new "coolant conditioner" in my car. I later spoke to someone who had spoken to one of the service people there and they said that it was something that the dealerships get very few of... these little tubes of this conditioner. It is not something that they can sell... only add at the dealership. Scratching my head a little, I called one of my most trusted repair shops and one of the techs there told me that its been a very recent thing... within the last 2 months or so that this has been available. So far so good- but its still too early to tell. (~Since my HG went 1 month ago, there has been no signs of coolant leaks... but for some reason, my oil is coming out dirtier and I am loosing it faster??? but thats another topic) And now when they flush the coolant, they put this stuff in with it. A friend of mine reminded me about this mysterious stuff yesterday only noting that tubes of this stuff were few and far between... My Question: Has anyone else had an experience with this stuff or does anyone know anything about this???

I would like to thank a nice guy I met in Mount Vernon for taking 5 mins to introduce me to his Brat. Thanks again Aaron (sp?) and I hope to meet up with you again- at least before August for the WCSS.

Don't second guess on it either. Buy it. I bought mine at 35000 miles and I didn't have a single problem with the car for the next 6 months.. which was out of the ordinary from my experience with it. I was thinking that maybe all the bugs had been worked out by that time. One week later, I was just minding my own business, sitting in the middle of an over 55 trailer park at 4 am, idling away and all of a sudden, *Pop* Hissssssssssssss* Boom* Hisssssss* I was surrounded by a cloud of steam/smoke both inside my car and outside. What a bummer. Long story short- Buy the warrenty. Your spouse will love you for it.
