Jajaja!!! Thanks Bennie! Yes, I think it will be easier to adapt the L Series gearbox mount to the MV. I am a bit concerned because I see the Motor/Transmission assembly will fit, but it´s tight and a little leaned backwards. I will try it this way... if it doesn´t work I may have to modify the tunnel or the steering crossmember, a major change I would like to avoid. Any advice would be thanked Saludos! Rafa

Hi to all… Finally dropped my EJ22 + GL 5s dr gearbox into my MV. it’s tight, but fits perfectly as you told me. I have to deal now with the gearbox mount. do you have any pictures of your custom made ones…just to save time and mistakes. I would really like to keep my ea trim as stock as possible. I know Bennie succeeded in this before….. Greetings from chile Saludos! Rafa

Hello Guys, More than a year without writing. Just to let you know I am still alive, bought a 1990 Legacy 2.2 MPFI auto as a donor car. Initially thought only for the engine. Just wondering if I will install the 5 Speed Manual +dual I got last year or go all the way with the auto trans that came with the Legacy. Saludos! Rafael

Just found a complete EA 82 4x4 dual range kit (Gearbox + Driveshaft + complete rear Axle with 3,9 diff. (4 x 140 hubs) from a Loyale. Looks I am getting an extra gear!!! Just 2 questions arose: Does this gearbox hast the same splines for the front cv joints as my original one? Do I have to make a special adapter (or something like that) to engage this gearbox to my EA 81 Engine? Thanks i advance for your advice!! Saludos, Rafa

Questions about weber 32/36
Rafavidmess replied to Rafavidmess's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Truly, Thanks a lot! I am placing my order Saludos -
Hi to All, My brat is having lots of driveability and engine stability issues.... I am quite sure the carb takes most of the blame. Specially after disassembling and finding out that king kong has wrestled and hammered everything inside it. Now I would like to buy a Weber 32/36, maybe the exact kit that is sold in this forum. I will use the fact that my brother will be working in WA for the next 3-4 weeks. Some questions (feel free to laugh at me): - The kit talks about an electric choke...Is this an electric sensor or the choke is really pulled electrically? In that case I should have to do some wiring. Do I? - Any advice about jetting kits (or other stuff I have to order) available? In Chile I am quite sure finding jets and parts will be impossible, so I would like to order most of the stuff I need before my brother comes back. Thanks in advance Saludos! Rafa

Thinking of a swap for my 1990 BRAT, I found 2 reasonably priced Loyales Turbo. Thinking of taking engine and trans. from it. Are this turbo engines reliable? Anything special I should Check. Are this engines MPFI or SPFI? Saludos! Rafa

Oil leak on BRAT Power Steering
Rafavidmess replied to Rafavidmess's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just mounted back my rebuilt rack. After all the reassembly I ended up with a strange “no return” feeling in the steering. Also the wheels show a Positive camber... I read in another post that the control arm bolts have to be retightened AFTER placing the car back in the ground... will do that. any other advice would be welcomed -
Hello to all, Finally got my rebuilt steering rack last Wednesday, mounted and...No leaks! (I started a new thread with my steering issues) Finding all the seals was a nightmare down here. yesterday I drove from my shop to home on the brat (About 120 km) and undoubtedly I have many alignment Issues. Will try to fix (or improve) them at home today. It’s a shame all the alignment shops are closed due to the COvid contingency. I’ll also drop a set of 14” I bought yesterday. Will post some pictures for opinions

Hello aba4430 I used Chinese leds , they are 5500 lumen. Don’t remember the brand. my brat has single headlights, meaning H4 for high/low I tried standing in front of my truck about 50 mts away in the night, to simulate an oncoming car... to me they are just a bit more than the lights of a newer car....just in the limit. In high beam the oncoming drivers will be undoubtedly blinded. there are also 3600 lumen Leds. Haven’t tried those though. saludos! Rafa

Oil leak on BRAT Power Steering
Rafavidmess replied to Rafavidmess's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hi to All and thanks for tour answers. @Turkeyberry, removing the rack is quite easy. I unbolted the inner rods from the rack, then loose the the steering column joint, the 2 hyd lines that go into the steering, near the column, then you remove the 4 bolts that hold the rack in place. oh yes, and you have to remove the exhaust from the headers to the resonator. This may be tricky if you have seized bolts... @el_freddo, yes, I found a shop near me that will rebuild it for about 40 USD. Saludos! Rafa -
Hi to All, Last week I finished a Power steering upgrade on my 91' Brat. The Donor was an 83 GL. After a While of driving I had a minor oil Leak from the drivers side Connecting Rod. I suspected this could happen....but I wanted to give it a Try. ¿Does anyone has a parts detail for this rack, in order to rebuild it? More....are they rebuildable? Saludos! Rafael

Today I Finished Installing the PS. Perfect Fit in al but the exhaust, that has been beaten quite good, meaning one of the tubes of the manifold touches a Ps hydraulic line. That may hurry my exhaust upgrade... also installed LED headlights. The difference is quite remarkable. I won’t be driving in the shadows anymore. Saludos!! Rafa

Indeed, Yesterday I checked...not a dual Range Engine ran unstable, but didn´t smoke. I didn´t rush into buying the car because of the lack of dual range, but still thinking about it. The engine is supposed to come from a 99 Legacy. Is there any special advice of what I should check in this particular engine? Saludos! Rafael

Just Found a 1990 Legacy 4WD, Manual, for about USD 400 near my home at Yapo (A sort of Chilean Craigslist). Body looks like rubbish and has a clear frontal crash. The Engine comes (as claimed) from a 99 Legacy. It´s an import car from the US. Maybe I will hurry the Engine upgrade...if the tranny has dual range+ Engine and Tranny are in good shape, I will certainly go for it! Hope I can Check it out this afternoon Saludos! Rafael

This weekend I did some 200 kms of highway, just to make sure my current job is ok....before We are forced to be at home again. Results seem fine, but definitely I would like to go for some more power. Also did some minor lighting work and rust cleaning. I the meantime I was thinking in the EJ swap @Al Zhiemer mentioned. I kind of like the 4 speed trany. Do you think I can keep it? Also can I keep the hydraulic steering that I am planning to install this week (from the 83 wagon donor)? Saludos! Rafa

Hi, Just got out and cleaned the Hidraulic steering from my GL to be installed in the BRAT, Got new rack and Tie rod ends. I think I will use the GL subframe, they are VERY Similar, just changing some spots welds for bolts and some holes, but the GL will be gone anyway, so I will go for the complete change. Does enyone has (Or know where to get) a service manual or guide for the steering rack? I would like to see if there is anything Else I should check/renew besides the ends. Regards! Rafa
