Very tidy, love the build.

This looks mean, get the SI subies together for a wee roady, was there any real boggy or difficult bits etc, or all just mainly gravel roads?

how much does it cost to refill a bottle?

Aquired this and plan to get back to original, might motor covert it later down the track....definatly want to track down a twin headlight front rather than the quad... but we will see what happens, have found a 2nd one, unsure if its for sale, need to do some digging on that still.
Needs a fair bit of rust done, have started stripping it, currently have gutted the interior, and full loom etc, only have motor and glass to remove

Hi Team,
As per above, just researching this topic a bit and am wondering if there are any physical difference in regard to mounts, shifter location etc, i have googled + image search to try and work it out but not getting much in a direct comparision.
I suspect there will be a size difference but want to confirm.
Thanks

Making some progress on the EJ swap. Got the EJ22 all stripped down, distributor installed and carby manifold prepped to go on. Looks like it'll bolt straight up to the injected heads which is great. Just need some 25 spline inner front axles and then it's go time!
wheres the pics

Necropost to the max, but am about to do this same swap in my 89 Omega wagon (EJ22 with factory EJ18 dizzy and carb in front of an EJ bellhousing PT4WD DR box) and I was wondering if anyone actually knew what carburetor Subaru used on the EJ18? It appears to be quite different from the earlier EA82 Hitachis I have and I was wondering what aftermarket options existed. I'm keen to put a Weber 38/38 on it. Long shot I know...
Hey mate im following the FB "build" (im the one requesting all the pics ) Looking at that manifold you might need a side draft style carb? so potentially a china 40mm is the go?

So is that a yes?
-
is it possible to get these rebuilt at all?
-
Did this swap get finished in the end?

You could put an immobilizer in the starter circuit or maybe the fuel pump wiring, this will stop 99% of thieves, my favorite antitheft tech is whenever I have to leave my car in an exposed area is to whip the rotor out and put the cap back on, small and easy to carry...
When i think of who would target these cars i think of young people joy riding, if it cant start then its not going anywhere, i really cant see a reason to steal these cars unless its at the extreme end of performance mods... although as they become more collectable this may increase.. some cheeky crackhead stole my external visor off my car when it was sitting in my driveway, didn't bother trying to start it or go thru the car itself, change in ashtray still there and stereo... Hmmm

At that price it might be worthwhile, lots of the ex CN parts have dramatic improved in recent years, id take a gamble lol, especially if its the last real piece to the puzzle.

Picking up a SOHC EJ22 with matching FWD 5 speed out of an early Legacy tomorrow evening. Gearbox should be compatible with stock mounts and axles if I've done my reading right. Engine should also bolt onto factory crossmember and early SOHC heads should clear the chassis rails.
I will build the motor with the high compression pistons and high lift cams before putting it in so not happening any time soon. Will also have to chat with a certifying engineer to get it all signed off, may have to upgrade brakes as it's going from 1600 to 2200 cc.
Not too sure if I will run it with MPFI or twin carbs yet, I'll be grabbing ECU etc in case I go EFI but I'm tempted to twin carb it using the factory mechanical secondary Hitachis posted above... However these are jetted for an 1800 EA81S so not too sure if they'll work well for the EJ22.
Otherwise I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a pair of IDF Weber carbs, missed out on a set last week dammit.
Here's a pic of the garage as we all love pics
I was having a look online for webers the other day and brand new might be a better option than 2nd hand and needing a rebuild… I’m sure you have looked but throwing it out there in case you haven’t

Should share your ej22’s lol haha. Haven’t logged Into here for ages but note I commented ages ago ok when I read it from the start. I should prolly document my one on here instead of FB but I’m pretty sure everyone would get sick of rust repair updates every 6 months.
