  1. I've heard of guys using a chevy powerglide trans behind a Soob motor, with a custom adapter and mods to the trans bellhousing and starter, but that's a lot of custom work. I'll try to do some research and find blueprints of the bellhousings. I have a friend with cnc mills who could make an adapter, I just need to do the homework.
  2. Well guys I am thinking of building a 4wd buggy to play in, and using an extra EA82 engine I have laying around. My first consideration is what trans can I bolt up to this? (Besides the stock stuff) Maybe a Jeep trans and transfer case? Anybody got a good link for adapters? Also since it is an older carbed motor, where could I find some performance parts for it? Not looking for huge amounts of power, something around 150 hp or more.
  3. Oh. Well Iturned it back and timed it the other direction. It took a few tries but it started and died. That's all it would do, start and die. I didn't have the engine comepletely back together yet, and it turned out that the problem was the wire for the oil pressure sending unit wasn't connected and the computer was shutting it off. I plugged it back in and all is well now. Thanks to all! Matt
  4. Well I used the three marks and cranked it once. It sounds like the d/s wants to start, but nothing from the p/s. Does it matter which way you turn the engine? I went clockwise facing the engine, but I wonder if I should have gone the other way. I'm taking lunch righ now, and will re-do it after. Thanks again for the help.
  5. I installing new belts, and the book says to align the center line on the flywheel with the timing mark on the housing. Are they referring to the ign timing marks? There is another set of marks a few inches away that look like this ||| are those the ones I should use? thanks, Matt
  6. Ok well here's what I know now. The motor that was bought reportedly had a bad oil leak. I believe that to be from the oil pressure sending unit as it is rusted bad on the bottom. Then I decided to check the belts on the bad motor, just out of curiosity. Well, the right side is a little loose, but the left... It's off the idler pulley, the cam housing (the plastic cover) is melted, and the belt is frayed. I was going to put it back on, when I found that the idler pulley has no bearings. So, I guess that I need a belt, idler pulley bearing, and both halves of the plastic cover. I really don't want to take parts off of the other motor, even though it has relatively new belts and good plastic. But maybe I will anyway and keep an eye out for what I took off. Thanks for the advise. BTW, this car is being fixed to replace the Pontiac that was bought to replace the Soob when it died. About skills, I have skills, I just like to know what I am getting into before I start.
  7. I have an 88 GL wagon with the ea82 motor, fuel injected. Something in the motor crapped out and now it won't start. I think it's the timing belts. Anyway, I have some questions. I bought another motor for $50 (ebay special) and it is an '86 ea82 carbed. Can I just swap the throttle body over to the new motor, or do I have to swap the entire intake? The guy I bought it from said there was a bad oil leak in the front, it looked like it may have been from the oil pressure sending unit/oil filter/oil pump(?) Autozone has the sending units, but I couldn't seem to find the gaskets. Where is a good place to find them? How hard is it to pull the motor out? I've yanked v8s out of old chevys and was fairly easy, but I've never messed with a FWD car. Whatever help is appreciated. Matt
