  1. If you own a welder, then tacking it together under the vehicle, then removing it to finish is the way to go. I don't have a welder here, (darn it), but I did build an exhaust system under the '82 BRAT. I used my floorjack to support the far end of the pipe(s), and drew some lines on the connecting joints to show how they were to be aligned. You'll want to draw the lines at a slight angle to the pipe, line up the lines and weld away. 3 lines would be best to insure straightness of joint. Then you throw the pieces in another vehicle, run to the shop to weld, come back home and do next section, repeat, repeat, repeat. Took me a good part of the day to finish. I need a welder!!!
  2. Welcome to the Board......... Good Luck with the new job..............
  3. True, and I may be down there myself, or Miles may be up here if I can't make it to Jim's. Sorry for the hi-jack!!!
  4. Finally had some free-time in the past 2 days to get out in the garage and start wrenching on the parts car. Got the doors off, seats pulled, along with the center console and dash. Removed a few things under the hood to get engine ready to pull, lights, grille, fenders, hood and winshield are now off too. After pulling the dash last night, I decided to take pics of what's behind it, both of the firewall, and the back of the dash. Got almost 9MB of pics of what's back there, 34 pics total. I think they would go along good with different write-ups on things if someone on here would want them. I would have to burn them to a disc and mail it, don't know of any other way to send the file. Don't know 'puter stuff that well. Let me know if you would want them.
  5. Could be either, really. But if the battery is say over 5 years old, it could be on it's way out. Would do some checking and cleaning of alt connections, battery cables, (both ends), and clean all of the ground wires in the engine area.
  6. Looks like you'll be on alot of toll roads. I-80 thru Ohio is toll road, along with Indiana. Lots of toll booths to go thru in Illinois going around Chicago. I'm about 25 miles North of Ohio's exit 2 on 80. I may be at work myself, but I'll PM you my cell number, just in case.
  7. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=6660&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 Link to pic of EA-81 vs EA-82 manifold. You can see what I'm talking about in the pic. Should've remembered I had that pic when I posted before...
  8. Books say 145 ft-lbs torque, last axle I bought, had paper in the box saying 175 ft-lbs torgue. I also always re-torque the axle nut after 100 mile or so of driving. Maybe I'm not holding my tonque right when torquing them the 1st time, as I've always had the hub loosen up after driving awhile.
  9. That small tube that the hose connects to on the manifold, goes into a passage to the coolant jacket. If you removed the carb, you'd see a 12-13mm square hole, and the end of that tube. You would have to block both ends of where the hose attaches, so you might as well replace hose.
  10. Haven't bought from them, but http://recarbco.com/ may have a carb for you.
  11. Actually, the EA-82's lower radiator hose works for the T-stat to EA-81 radiator hose with some trimming. It has the right curves in it. Done this twice now.
  12. Done that swap twice myself, really improves the running of the engine. Definetly helped the '84 Autospaztic BRAT. Did both using the same Weber, put the stock EA-82 carb back on the '84 when I traded it. Now, it's time for exhaust improvements on the '86...............
  13. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :drunk:
  14. Haven't read on here of that problem either, with a 'Roo that is. Can say (ahem), Ford had that problem for a while. Seems the parts books listed the wrong rotor for whatever cap, basically the 2.0, 2.3 engines. Could be your problem seeing as you have an '87 w/4 speed DR tranny. Sounds like a BRAT or Hatch to me, and some of the Parts places just look at the year, not the model when pulling parts for a 'Roo. Could be they gave you the wrong rotor, as in to wide or to tall. My .02
  15. Welcome!! Possible 30 Subaru's huh?!? And my Wife thinks I'm crazy with the ones I have. Sheesh, some guys/gals have all the luck!!!
  16. I'll have to give them a call myself. I'll be needing some to put the trim back on the '82, as some are broke. Did manage to save some off the '86, but don't think I have enough of them.
  17. Definetly different to say the least. Could've been designed with some more thoughts towards looks though on the bike part of it. Still, kinda cool looking.
  18. I likes it!! I feel a dent in the savings account coming........
  19. Just so you know... Dextron ATF works too. 1/2 quart or so poured into the crankcase will do the lifters wonders. Got it in 3 of mine right now. My XT-6 really likes to do the TOD, (tick of death) as we call it. Don't hurt the engine any, (the ticking), it just be annoying. The ATF has made it an occassional ticky episode rather than an all-o'-the-time thing....
  20. Or that they are for warning lights instead of gauges... The sending unit for an oil pressure gauge is rather large. The switch for the oil light is small. That should tell you which set-up the engine has. On the gas gauge issue, check the connector at the tank for the sending unit. I've found those to be corroded enough to not work. On mine, I just cut the plugs out and spliced the wires together using solder and shrink-wrap.
  21. It's part of the vapor recovery system, or I think it is. On a BRAT, it's just behing the fill tube between the inner/outer body panels, behind the rear wheel. Lay under your Wagon on the PS rear and look at the gas tank. You should see 3 like 1/4" lines going from the tank to the body. They go to that plastic jug thing.
