  1. $3,000 would be one heck of a good settlement offer here. I'd take the money, buy the car back, and keep it for usable good parts. Here's to a speedy recovery from the back injury. Just don't rush it. Made that mistake myself, paid for it later....
  2. All buttoned up and test drive completed. Need to adjust clutch though. The EA81 is sporting the XT6 clutch pack, a bit different than the stock EA82 clutch pack is. Seems I have a leak in the Y-pipe now, DS is a bit noisy and coming from inside the heatsheilding. Arrrgg. Engine was a bit rough at first, but settled down and runs decently. Oil pressure on the dash is back up above the 40 mark now, The EA82 was almost always below there except on cold morning startups. Probably just the difference in sending units. Few tweaks here and there and I'll deem her good to go.
  3. Proper jet sizes have been posted on here a few times. Try searching for them and use GeneralDisorder's name as he has posted them a few times.
  4. One could say that I guess. If I'd quit breaking things,,,, I would be in better shape. But it is nice to have extra engines and what not to fall back on. Was planning to pull the EA82 out to do a reseal on it, drop it back in. Not,,,,, pull it out 'cause I broke it. Talked to one of the welders at work yesterday. Says he shouldn't have no problem welding a couple nuts to the broken bolts, done it before. All I have to do is get the engine into the shop. Got the notion to tear it down to the case before doing that. Then I can do a full reseal of it from the head gaskets out, and know she's good for quite a few more miles,.
  5. Spent the past few hours buttoning her up. All that is left to do is the Y-pipe. Well,,,, actually,,,, put some coolant mixture in it also. But,,,,, she lives once again..... Got everything done I could sans Y-pipe, poured some water in the cooling system, hooked up battery, fired that muther up. Damned if an EA81 with no exhaust at all ain't loud in a 2 car garage with the doors all closed... But,,,,,, it,,, sounds,,, so,,, good.......................................... Pushing 10:00 PM as I write this, 3:00 AM is get the "H" out of bed time. So I be done for the night. Test drive slated for tomorrow after work..
  6. If that is refering to the opening pic of this thread, it's the same pic I had up to begin with. Seems it changed size when I reloaded it. I'll try to get another full side shot of it up. Thanks. Always like "free". especially when it comes to vehicles. Even if they do take some work to get them on the road. She's a "work in progress". Not sure if I'll ever get to the point of "being done" with it. Lot's of "plans", just don't have lot's of money....
  7. Didn't work on Wagon last night, wasn't feeling all that great. Got out there tonight for a bit though. EA81 is mated to the trans, got a few electrical connections made. Fuel/vent lines attached along with MC vac line. The 2 1/4" coolant lines swapped over from the EA82. Swapped the EA82 type bracket for the pitchstopper rod over. Going to remove the ER27 type pitch stopper bracket from the trans, as it likes to rub on the spare tire support if I put the spare on it. Makes a very good impresion of a cricket. Del sounded the dinner bell, so I called it a day. Should be close to starting it up come this time tomorrow.
  8. Thinking I cracked the bolts when I installed the oilpump, and they snapped off when I went to remove them. Couldn't get a grip on them with anything I have here. Decided to pull the engine. I can take it to a friend what may be able to assist me in getting them out. Spent time working at getting the broke oilpump out of the EA81 engine I had in the Wagon originally. Pulled another oilpump off an engine sitting here and installed it after doing a reseal on it. I then pulled the EA82 out and got it off to the side. Man, is the underside of the Wagon covered in oil. Lot's of oil... EA81 is ready to go back in at this time. Debating on whether to do the D/R swap now, or do it a bit later when I have the EA82 ready to go back in. Got everything to do it minus the wheel bearings I was wanting to change out during the axle swap. Mileage on bearings is an unknown, and I have the notion to change them just because I'm there doing axle/seal, so why not do bearings too. I had orginally put in for today and Tuesday as vacation time, but decided to cancel it last Friday as parts order from Dealership hadn't shipped yet. Kinda thinking I shot myself in the foot there.....I could definetly use those 2 days right now. Oh well............ Getting to/from work is no issue, I can ride with Christopher.
  9. Still waiting on some parts to get here. But decided to do a bit of wrenching yesterday. Swapped out the rear shocks, thinking I may need some new springs though. Time will tell on that. Decided to do the waterpump and such, really shouldn't have. Managed to snap 2 bolts off for the oilpump. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Hasn't been that long since I had oilpump off, so why did the bolts break??? I know not. I'll be back out there after breakfast to attempt remedy of situation.
  10. Sad to see her go really, but she's at a good home. Like we've been talking about thru PM's, I'll do my best to answer questions about her.
  11. I know only to well the aggravaiting "I dropped _____, and can't find it now" delema. I have found some of the items on the engine crossmember, under the oilpan itself. I have a short 10mm wrench that really likes that spot. On the '88 Wagon, dropped items have hid there, but more behind the power steering lines than ontop of the crossmember.
  12. Chances are that the battery cables themselves are the problem. They may carry voltage okay, but a high amp draw like the starter needs is causing a bad connection in one of the cable ends Also there's the posibility that the contact ring inside the starter solenoid is worn. But, with the "tries to crank then rapid clicking", sounds like battery cables to me.
  13. Besides the axle nut and wheel lugs, there's only 3 bolts/1 nut and the brakeline to mess with on each side. Basically a straight swap. Brake line needs to be twisted some when you attach it to the hose on the caliper. When I did the '85 BRAT, I just twisted the line so it pointed up. For the '88 Wagon, I ran new lines and bent them to keep hose away from the inside of the rim. Can't really say how original lines would have to be done. But you'll see what it needs as you do it. Look in the USRM, or the "Old USRM". Do believe there is a write-up in there.
  14. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/137082-lets-play-name-that-coolant-hose-ea82-tstat-housing-to-intake/ Same thing you have going on. Had to do that hose myself awhile back.
  15. Part number GA140 is superceded by GA330 for the N/A ones, according to the site.
  16. Do believe that is a gasket I used in the past. Went to local parts store on a Sunday, needed something close to original, As I knew they wouldn't have any in stock. Counter guy took the time to find me a set. I will definetly keep that in mind for future needs.
  17. I have spent the last 2 days trying to find the part number, searching thru various sites. No luck.. Found a spread sheet with different engine part numbers, but no exhaust gasket listed. Will somebody please post the number. I have an order sitting in my shopping cart at Hansen Subaru, and would like to get the exhaust gaskets also. I can not find them on their site. Thanks,
  18. Just from the pic, it would be consider as showroom new in these parts. Really doesn't look bad at all from that angle.
  19. Nice.... Hard to beat "Free", or nearly free.
  20. One really should never use an impact to draw any shaft thru a bearing. It can/will damage the bearing, shortening it's life. Always a better idea to draw the shaft in by prying on the nut, even if one has to remove the hub to do so.
  21. Was definetly good to meet you Travis, and to see James again. Sad to sell the BRAT, in a way, but more than happy to sell it to someone that will appreciate what it is they have. Be sure to let me know if you need things for it. I just may have it, you saw only a small part of my stash here.
  22. Welcome to the Board.. From Geneva, Ohio originally, moved to Michigan many years ago.
  23. Welcome back. All but one of the 5 BRAT's I've owned have came from out-state. Really hard to find here in Michigan, but they are around. Keep looking, you'll find another one.
  24. Welcome to the Board... Originally from Geneva, Ohio. Family moved up here back in '65
