After I posted this thread I used the "Similar Threads" feature to locate some good threads, and did find and read most of the write up. Good stuff! The loyale has a silver computer. Doh! And I already got rid of the pedal assembly! Double Doh! So I would need to source out a black computer from an 87-89 ea82, right? Would that still work okay if the rest of the parts came from the loyale still? or would I need the wiring harness / disty with that computer? 2wd okay? I could get it at the JY most likely. What about like intake gaskets, etc? Is all of that info available on your wonderful write up? Thanks! -Eli-

So I was giving it some thought... how hard would it be to use SPFI from a 91 loyale (ea82) on my ea81 (hydro)? Do I need any special adapters? I should get some kind of new gaskets, right? Maybe you guys could point me to a good thread or two about it? Any stuff I need custom or new? Is it hard to work out the vacuum routing? What about the computer? Thanks everybody!! I sure would like to have my brat fuel injected to go along with that 5spd and rear lsd

I don't know about the OBW.. but on my old 98 GT there were access holes in the fenders.. these little rubber inserts you pop out.. and then put your 6-8" extension (i believe) through there, and attach it onto the socket.. then you get good leverage from the fender well area. Although it involves removing the plastic fender wells, it is worth it IMO. (I think the SVX was like that as well... having those extra cylinders in there made it a bit more challenging!)

Southwest Subaru meet 2/15/07 MLK jr weekend
SuBrat84 replied to s'ko's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I will not be able to make it 01/15/07. That's too soon for me.. the brat wont be ready by then. -
You aren't kidding!! I had my tires done one time on my 98 Legacy. with-in 100 miles.. I get out of the car and one lug nut is missing off the front drivers side wheel and various others around the car are loose. I went back to the Big-O shop and told them what happened.. they tried to play it off, but I still made them give me a free lug nut!

Southwest Subaru meet 2/15/07 MLK jr weekend

Auto trannies suffer from overheating which in turn leads to torque bind and failing clutch packs and duty solenoids which can result in costly repairs. Proper fluid changes and an after-market transmission oil cooler help to combat this problem and can get the auto tranny to last as long as any other component in the vehicle. The manual tranny can stand up to more abuse and less frequent maintanence. I would be leary of any transmission that is making "unusual" noise. It is not normal for the gears to "grind" when shifting. This could indicate a clutch going out.. or more seriously the gears themselves starting to warp or get chewed up.
-
I would highly recomend checking your battery leads for corrosion.. making sure that the contacts are clean and fit tightly. Check that the positive cable to the starter is tightened down good. Check that the grounds are clean and tight. Do the tapping the starter test as well.. because you gotta love how "tapping with a hammer" fixes so many things!!

I can totally believe you lost tire pressure to lose it in a corner that way. If I talked about the way I used to drive my legacy, "they" would ban me from USMB... 65mph in that corner doesn't seem all that bad. BTW, when my GF put the legacy into a telephone pole at 30mph the airbags did not deploy. Plus I've had a couple friends that had their noses broken by air bags.. so you're no worse for the wear. Good to see you "Smiling" about it after the fact. Sorry for your loss, I know your pain! Love the shirt!

I have everything you need .. I don't know if you'd want to pay the shipping or not.. but I have 2 ea82 donors with good transmissions. One is PT4wd D/R out of an 86 wagon I believe. The other is PT4wd S/R (pushbutton) out of a 91 loyale. Both are 3.9. I'll sell you everything you need for $100 + shipping. I don't know how much shipping would be. It would probably have to be freight for a transmission. I would do a shipping quote for ~300 pounds from 85712 if you're interested.

You've got my vote for it!! Here's a little bit of info on one I did: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45000 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44680 Granted I wasn't doing a 4wd.. you just have to keep in mind that the transmission and rear differential have the same gear ratio. So, if your rear differential is currently a 3.9? you need to find a 5-spd transmission that aslo has the 3.9 on it. I'm not sure if you need the rear driveshaft or not.. someone who has done the swap on a 4wd will know.

I hate to tell you this.. and I don't know exactly what the $ conversion is.. but I paid ~$38 for a brand new transmission mount for a 99 legacy auto from the dealership. I would seriously demand at the least that they pay for another shop (dealership?) to put in NEW parts and repairs for what their broken stuff, that they overcharged for, did. If they don't want to make it right, start filing complaints everywhere you can. See if you can get your local newspaper, TV news, etc, to do stories about them? Go to other shops and get quotes for all of that work (don't show them that work order.. just write all those things down and ask for a quote to do that work.) Document everything you can. Take those SOBS to small claims court if nothing gets resolved. $3000 is a LOT of money for those repairs. I'm not up to date on how the money converts. But it definately feels like they are overcharging you... even if it was NEW parts.

You'll have to come out to Tucson and hit up Reddington sometime... I know a lot of good trails to the south west of tucson as well. Sometime after the new year when I have the Brat going....

will the front seats swap from a ea82 to a ea81
SuBrat84 replied to mellow65's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I managed to fit a GL10 seat in my brat... I shouldn't have though because it messed up stuff.. now I'm going to have to weld in new mounts to put in an ea81 seat again. The ea82 seats are too wide for ea81's .. it doesn't fit well at all without really good machine equipment. -
Well it's not on a yo frame.. but I'm putting a 5spd and lsd rear in the brat..

Gravel sucks! Cardbord, rugs, carpets, plywood, doors, floor mats, etc... anything flat and thick I'm putting under there. 12x12" or 24x24" pieces of plywood make good jack bases.. double stacking them is good if the rocks are that big. I really liked having a full 4'x8' OSB or ply for crawling around under the car. I have a little concrete (enough for 1 car) now.. but I can't wait until I can get the whole Garage thing going on. I want like a 6 car garage!!

New SVX?
SuBrat84 replied to ecky's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
The windows are like that partially for structural integrity.. (it has a whole door frame, instead of just a half frame like most Subarus.) And also for aerodynamics. With the windows down the air passes by the window more than it comes in the windows... so the wind you get is from air being sucked out of the car instead of pushed in. I have driven in the rain with my windows down on my SVX and not gotten wet... as well as times I have gotten wet.. it just depends on what kind of rain it is! -
That was so much fun. None of you would have taken your Rus back where he was. And even if you did... there isn't a Subaru around that would have pulled him out of where he was. MAYBE one of the ones like Deathhatch.. but I doubt it. (If you don't believe me, come on down to Tucson sometime and I'll take you up there.) It took a few hours of cutting a "road" to roll backwards down.. and mearly inches from the car being a total loss off a "cliff" (2 foot drop into a gnarly gulley.) It turned out to be a "bad" fuel pump. Good thing we brought that extra one. Hopefully we'll be wrenching on it tomarrow.. I Owe him a new Y-pipe Sorry it took so long to get me out there.. Monday was Jessica b-day.. Tuesday was halloween.. couldn't get ahold of him Wednesday... but it's out now!!!
