  1. It's going to be a while before I start the "GL Camino." But, I am parting out and chopping up the Loyale.. so I will make it look like your photochop but IRL.. and post pics and whatnot.
  2. If you can wait about two weeks I'll chop the Loyale in my yard up just like that and tell you exactly where the weaknesses are and give you pics too.
  3. This is completely OT but.. I was reading this book "The Pleadian..." something or other.. I can't remember exactly.. but they were talking about how there is intelligent life there and basically have evolved to a state of awareness that they are like what we would consider "angels" etc... it was pretty weird. So I was like .. "Well.. that explains why Subarus ROCK!!!"
  4. When I first got this car.. I heard the air compressor come on one time for about 5 seconds and then never again. Even hard wired. I bought a "new" compressor from a board member. It tried to air up a couple struts with the car jacked up (when the rear were still on it.) But they just all completely deflated with any weight on them. Not holding air? I picked up a parts 88 GL with the KYBs on it and went ahead and swap them out just for the practice. I left the air lines open in the rear and plugged in "normal." They blow pretty good pressure... obviously the fronts will not fill up with the rears just open.. but I know they don't hold air. That's why I was asking... the actual air bags them selves are cracked.. this car sat for like 7 years. It only has 101k I think I will hit the junkyard soon and get the Legacy fronts until I can find a pair of XT6 FWD struts P.S. Alcyone applies to SVXi as well.
  5. Did you notice if the MAF was still there? Also what condition the axles were in? I need 2 fronts and one rear...
  6. Sawzall. 12" 10 or 14 TPI Search and Rescue Metal blade (Home Depot.) I'm going to do it to an 82-84 Wagon and call it the "GL Camino." The rear doors WILL need to be welded shut, and some kind of support will be needed.. I will probably use some steel tubing. I think if you cut the rear hatch properly and get the correct hinges that you could remove the window portion and use that as a tailgate... I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of this!!
  7. So.. I'm thinking I gotta get this 6 going man.. At this point it is really the suspension keeping me from getting this car road worthy. I would like some input about rebuilding the air struts. Is it hard? Are the parts I need hard to find? Is it expensive? .. The compressor I have works.. and it's blowing air through the lines.. but the struts will not air up and of course don't hold air. I guess.. everything rubber would have to be replaced? Right now the rears are off.. and I have some near-new KYB GR2s on there from an '88 GL. The fronts I haven't taken off.. because I can at least move the car around.. even though it wont air up. My other options consist of getting some front suspension off an Impreza or Legacy from '91-'94. Which I don't really like the idea of, due to "drilling" and whatnot being required. Or to get them off of a FWD xt6 (PREFERABLY) which no one has. I really would like: A. Front strut/spring assemblies from a FWD XT6. B. Rebuild all Four of my air struts. As soon as I get this suspension issue tackled.. I am going to get a MAF, clutch kit, axles, etc and ROMP this AWESOME car. Man I love the Alcyones. Thanks everyone!! -Eli-
  8. Duh.. I remember that thread now.. I wonder why I couldn't find it in the search engine. I like your idea about the "similar threads" ... when I'm not retarded I do that!
  9. Very nice! If I ever have any free time I'm going to have to come over and check that out!!
  10. I'm kinda doing this for the search engine on here... What size socket or type of tool do I need to pull the drain plug on the front differential of an auto transmission (AT) ??? I searched a whole bunch and found: Some are 21mm, Some are 22mm, and the new stuff is a Torx. The ONLY thing I could find about it said T70 INTERNAL Torx. Is this correct? Does the 21/22 differ between MY or is it like a Legacy/Impreza thing? The car I am specifically trying to find out about is a '99 Legacy L with a 2.2. It is definately a Torx. Internal means it goes into the bolt instead of around the bolt like a normal socket? If yes, then it is Internal. Is T70 the right size? Thanks! -Eli-
  11. As far as putting on an intake.. no difference. I'm not 100% on that.. but unless there is a different type of vacuum pressure sensor plug in or something... but highly unlikely that anything is different.
  12. I'm definately doin' some wheelin' and campin' if I'm going that far. Flashing flooding is fun!! I like it. Can't wait!
  13. Is this compared to other outbacks? i know outbacks have taller struts than normal legacies... maybe they gave them even taller struts? taller springs? 1" block lift? I don't know for sure. "Increase compared to what vehicle?"
  14. It's between Indio and El Centro. That's actually a real good location for a SW meet. People from Tucson can just take the 8 out to El Centro and up.. and people from Phoenix can just take the 10 out to Indio and down.. Same thing with San diego/Los angeles.. Is there camping and all of that in the Anza Borrego? Pitch a tent have a camp fire kind of camping?? I wonder if we can get any Sac/Reno guys down tooo.. *getting excited*
  15. I'm going to have the Brat going with a rear 3.7 LSD .. I'm soo down for some good trails. I'll bring plenty of tools and extra parts!!
  16. If it's a sedan and not a wagon.. then it would probably be pushing down on that lever.. if it doesn't work it's probably broken or needs adjustment. (bending, or something.)
  17. Thanks so much everyone for your help. I am so happy to see this car running, and very well, I might add. Big thank you to Shawn! I appriciate it. -Eli-
  18. So I got it all together. Everything lined up good and it was actually a very easy timing belt to put on. Tested, it was good. Put everything back on, ran it for a minute.. noticed a coolant line leaking a little so I turned it off to tighten up the coolant lines. Turned it back on and it choked out. Codes P0107 and P0122 which http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41218&highlight=p0107 says that is: P0107 Pressure sensor circuit low input P0122 Throttle position sensor circuit low input How do I fix these? For anyone who is curious I found a couple "loose" wires at one of the main grey connectors. Pushing the wire back into the connector so it made the connection all the way fixed all the codes.
  19. Everything is cleared up. I am going forward with the changing of the sprockets and timing belt. They ordered the belt and had it delivered from the local dealership and it was at my house by noon the same day. I understand full well everyones viewpoint on this. There was a serious breakdown in communication. I do agree with Courtney that at some point someone should have said "There is this potential problem. Can we speak with the mechanic before we complete this order?" or even just told Courtney through an e-mail of this potential problem, as she was forwarding all CCR correspondence to me. I'm not trying to place blame on anyones shoulders here. I'm just illustrating the situation. CCR is doing what it takes to resolve this problem and they are doing it in a timely manner, in my opinion. About the board member discount: I have been told by CCR that this motor set-up NORMALLY runs ~$2900 and that the discount was already included in the quote (and actual price) of ~$2600. I just didn't see it in the invoice, so I had assumed that it was not discounted. I'm sorry for any grief, stress, or animosity that this has caused anyone. I have confidence that this will work out this evening when I get this car running and I have confidence that this car will last a long time now. Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding. Peace!! -Eli-
  20. Courtney, The Crank sprocket and cam sprocket in question are SO INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT that I am 99.99% sure that this is the problem. I understand how to do the timing belts especially since Shawn just gave me a really good write-up about it. But I don't want to proceed without your permission, and want to see what CCR has to say about all this. Let me know if you hear anything from them. Here is what CCR originally said about it: Thank you for your inquiry. The '99 EJ22 is a one year only engine, sort of a hybrid between the EJ22 and the EJ25 SOHC. The "bad" news is that an earlier EJ22 won't work with your intake manifold, the '95 EJ22 which is so popular for 2.5 conversions won't bolt up to your transmission or work with your exhaust, and it's doubtful that the wiring and ECU will work with it either. The good news is that we can custom build a non-interferential version of the '99 EJ22 for you. (Incidentally, we retrofit all EJ22 engines so that they are non-interferential.) A '99 EJ22 engine is $2495/exchange + shipping. If you would like a quote on shipping, I will need your zip code. Generally, non-residential shipping to Tucson should run about $165. She didn't get her board member discount either. We're not trying to be negative here, but we have heard so many good things about CCR that this whole situation is kind of putting us off. So, can I do these belts without worrying about it? If I follow your directions to the letter and have my brother helping me, will the engine be safe? I know I can get everything lined up correctly, timing belts aren't that hard.. I just didn't know what the procedure was on this motor. So the Cam Sprockets ARE supposed to be pointed in the same direction? If the "cam might slip" when removing the belt.. couldn't that cause damage if it's interference? I'm sorry for all of this Courtney, we'll get it straightened out and have this car running great for you!! -Eli-
  21. Yeah it's a 2wd auto. Which flywheel do I need then? The ea81 one from the brat, or the ea82 one from the t-coupe?? And what about the axles.. are they compatible?
  22. Got a donor motor for the brat... ea81 out of an 83 wagon. What I'm wondering is.. what do I need to use the stuff out of my donor 86 T-Coupe? I want to use the 5 speed tranny of course, and the LSD rear end, of course. I was wondering if I can use the suspension stuff? and how about the brakes? If anyone can give me some good pointers, or point me towards some good threads? thanks everybody!!
  23. Is doing the timing on this EJ22 like doing the timing on an EA82? Where one side is up and the other side is down, with all the weird turning of the motor, etc? Or should I just take the new crank "sprocket"? and cam sprocket off and replace them with the old ones (yes they are both different) and put the belt back on? By the way.. both cam sprockets are currently pointed down. Is that how it is supposed to be on this motor?
  24. Oh. Okay I understand now. That makes a bit more sense and now I'm not all scared I had to open the motor. Thanks.
  25. How would I know? Where is the crank gear? I think Shawn suggested that is the problem.
