Did you do the struts to see how much lift and then go back and put the springs to see how much additional lift? I want solid numbers if what you're saying is true. The lift is supposed to come from the struts.. the springs just affect travel and ride comfort.
-
I was thinking about it... maybe the guy at tire rack thinks you're trying to lift your "outback" by putting new outback struts on it? lol... sometimes parts guys can be so DUH

Foresters are impreza's as well. Definately need the Outback Legacy ones.

Using Diesel to increase octane ratings...
SuBrat84 replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you filled up with 15 gallons at .20 a gallon you would save 3 dollars. Why would you then spend that 3 dollars for a gallon of diesel? Or a gallon of anything else for that matter? If you're really that hungry go find a food bank. -
I bet studded and/or snow chained tires and a rear LSD that you could climb a soob (Especially a hatchh) out of that hole!

After you get the codes pulled and see what it is for.. (sounds like a misfire caused by a water short, etc..) and need someone to work on it.. I can help you out. You may just need new spark plugs / spark plug wires. I drove my 98 GT through washes up to and above the headlights before... I was putting H2's to shame in my sedan!

D#@MNIT locked the keys in my ea81
SuBrat84 replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have an RX key that opens like 4 of the other cars.. including a vw bug... you might get lucky if someone else has like previously mentioned.. nissan, datsun, subaru, and possibly toyota keys from the 80's. -
Hey, Sorry I haven't called yet... I had a 50 hour week in 4 days and then spent the Fri-Sun at the lake.. and worked some more today. I'll get a hold of you tomarrow and see what you want to do about the transaction. Do you have paypal? -Eli- Edit: My brother had to sell his Impreza because of the insurance cost in Tucson. My Legacy that I had the stuff on got over-steered into a pole by my Jessica. But it was all front end damage.. none of the suspension stuff was damaged... I pulled the strut and sway stuff off (made the car stock) before the salvage company picked up the car.

It might not be the best thing to do to your starter.. but I have found that if you get stuck in some sand.. instead of trying to burn up your clutch and dig four big holes and get stuck on your frame... shut her off.. put her in first or second.. and if you have your "clutch check" bypassed, hopefully, you can crank it over in gear and get it to lurch out of the sand.

My car has an unfriendly tenant
SuBrat84 replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have had a lot of widows in my subies (arizona) and don't like it! That one my friend looks like it could be a hobo spider (yikes!) So it's either totally harmless or totally packed with poison. Honestly, I wouldn't take my chances. Get a jar, catch it, release it out in the woods. Or if you don't mind just knock it off of there and smash it. -
My 98 GT did that for a while in the heat out here in Tucson. It ended up being an air pocket in the cooling system. *yikes* Also, make sure both fans come on with the AC on. Cleaning that stuff out with a good pressure wash is a good idea too. If none of that helps... try installing a "Windshield washer" nozzle to spray onto your radiator (ac radiator) area. Just make sure you put water in that one and not soapy water!

So you think we should get the OB springs as well, and not just use the Legacy springs?
-
Hi, I will be the one doing the strut swap for Courtney and I just wanted to clarify a couple things before I get half way in there and need something else or whatever. 99 Legacy L is the patient. 99 Outback KYB GR2 struts going on there. Should we also get the OB strut tops (hats?) and would we still need the camber bolts if we have the proper tops? Providing everything else is A+ what all do we need for this swap? 1. KYB GR2 struts, front and rear = 4 total. 2. ??? (Outback strut tops?) 3. ???? (Camber bolts??) 4. ?????????? As long as I line up the springs and stuff it shouldn't need an alignment, right? Or is an alignment needed after a strut swap?? Thanks you guys! I want to do a good job for Courtney!! -Eli- P.S. ( I just did a strut swap on a forester and it's super easy. )

Vanagon, VW bug... whatever

What do I win if I answer correctly? My official answer is as follows: Time and money. -Eli- -
That definately sounds like a knock to me. From what I could tell from it just sitting here.. in park. At about 1800rpms it starts to knock and is very constant with engine speed all the way through the power band. We did not rev it beyond 5k. It was warm from her driving across town. It was entirely serviced by the dealer here, whom i loathe. There was a lot of stuff loose (not bolted down, broken timing cover bolts) on this motor. I'm afraid when the dealer did the 65k timing belt service it may have caused some problems. but no way to really prove that? It has been 40k miles since they did that. The oil was about 2 quarts over-full unless it has the wrong dipstick. the o-ring on the front-diff dip was gone. The auto tranny was replaced w/ a reman one and is looking good. Power steering was below the dip stick and probably leaking. There was pack rats living in this motor for a little while, poop, cholla cactus, and straw were left behind as evidence.. along with a nice burnt poop smell.. which was probably what she was smelling more than the PS fluid dripping down on stuff. Or maybe it was the poop soaking in the PS fluid. We could only find one small ground wire that had been chewed through. I think the PCV system is bad.. as there is a tiny amount of oil coming up the 1-3 side cam cover hose. however, I don't think a bad pcv system or knock sensor (no codes) would cause the severe knocking that is in this motor. Edit: PO took it to "Bucks Garage" to have it diagnosed with "A bad valve and a rod knock." ~$160, thank you please come again.

Hey, Eljefe.. you should come look too. Though I am competant, I am not a professional. The more the merrier, right? I bought a 98 GT w/ 45k from emich a few years ago that had noise they gave me the typical "that's how subarus sound" speech and 12 miles later it threw a rod OUT of the block! Well.. i dunno about one with 100k+ .. but SOA gave me a new short block because of it.... When's a good time for you Courtney.. I may be spending the night in phx because I'm probably going to go get a free wagon up there.. so maybe is the evening saturday okay??
