To rebuild or not to rebuild? That is the question. I probably should because of the fire but I want some opinions. Compression seems to be good. All 4 cyl ARE still moving.. The only thing that seems to be "wrong" is the 1/3 cam is not turning. No it's not the timing belt... the crank sprocket just spins across the teeth. the cam is STUCK. Valve cover is off but I'm not familiar with the EA82T yet so I don't know what I'm looking for? Should I do the rebuild for the experiance? What about copper gaskets (size?) to change CR for increased boost? (Got TD04, WRX Top Mount Intercooler, Boost Controller that I'm putting in) Tips? Suggestions for Intake?(Cone Filter in Fender?) Do I need a custom or WRX downpipe? I would like to go 2.5" Turbo Back? Point me in the right direction please? I would like to try and get this baby going before Thanksgiving!!! TIA! -Eli-

In chronological order too! Yeah.. the XT6 is up on blocks... *sigh* ... I need to get a new compressor for it. The RX is getting a TD04 w/ WRX Top Mount intercooler. The brat needs a rebuild and a lift.. SVX needs new struts.. Yeah.. they're Subarus alright!! LOL! I just like how my yard looks like a mini-meet!

Me!! Plus you sound like you really have your stuff together. Sounds like you are the guy to talk to about some winter snow style camping? I bet you know all the good trails and camp spots up there, huh?

Where did you get that filter for $14?? i want one! -
Sorry.. I just realized I've been blinded by the title... The ad does not say it is an ER27. It says that is a 2.7 liter. Bore/Stroke? SB is right.. take a look.. it's a 4 cyl. Probably EJ25.

my first speeding ticket
SuBrat84 replied to omniman69's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You people are blowing this WAY THE HELL out of proportion. The guy was doing 76.25 MPH in a 50 MPH Zone. How many of you haven't done that? GET REAL! PAY ATTENTION TO MPH VS KPH. In Arizona we have 75mph zones! 25 over? that's nothing. You wanna *************** about people speeding go in the "How fast have you had your Suby?" thread, take a look at my pics of my 98 Legacy doin' ~125 MPH and then come *************** at me. and Hey, just to make you guys even more upset about people speeding, my SVX does ~125 MPH coming out of 3rd into 4th gear. And for you Metric people.. 125MPH = 200KPH. So quit yer beetchin' about this guys little speeding infraction. And hey man, GOOD JOB SMOKIN THAT CHEVY! -

Bump. Party is tomarrow. Anyone from here gonna make it? -
I want that motor. Holy crap could you imagine having a 430hp w/ 400ft lbs of torque XT6?!?! Ohh man that would be sooo sweet.

Do you have any check engine light? Sounds like you are having a problems with your spark and or fuel delivery. If you have a multimeter or voltage tester do a test on your injectors to make sure they are getting power.. It sounds like you probably have a bad or clogged injector though. Definately replace your fuel filter. It may also be a good idea to go ahead and replace your spark plug wires and spark plugs.. Try running higher octane for a day or two and see if that makes a difference.

Brian - They do make station wagons.. just not very many of them. We have an Accord station wagon! Nipper - Don't get an SVX if this is a "feature" you like.. first part I ever tried to get for my SVX was discontinued! (Brake Caliper Support Bracket) Anyway.. my .02 is probably only worth .01 but I'd say definately go with the Subaru. Just test drive the one you feel like you may want and you will see why we love our cars so much.

I think you only need to swap the speed-o cables... unless you want a dash from a manual also.. then u just swap the whole dash.

Yeah.. XT6 clutch kit... (Pressure Plate, Pilot Bearing, Clutch Disc...) Autozone for ~$160u.s. ... EA82T Flywheel was already in the car:brow: ... it was a direct bolt in and works VERY well with the stock set-up. We'll see how it holds the power after I make a few upgrades..
-
That's weird... I installed an XT6 clutch kit into an 88 RX EA82T with no problem. Direct bolt on. And it works MUCH better than the ea82t clutch did.

Who drives their Justy fast & on long trips?
SuBrat84 replied to PictureChasers's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well.. I don't know how much experiance with Subarus that your mechanic has.. and I can understand his feelings on that with MOST cars. But Subaru motors are designed by people that used to build airplanes. These engines are very comfortable with their entire rpm range and you should have no problems running at and above 4000rpms for extended periods of time. I know it's not the exact same car but I drove my Legacy from Tucson, AZ to Portland, OR (roughly) doing 90+mph (4000+rpms) for about 90% of the 3300mile, 50 hour round trip. With no problems at all. Subarus are at their best at 4000rpm -

I definately gotta do that next time I'm in Oregon!! Did you guys go all the way or did you go so far and turn around? That's definately a "no snow" kind of road, eh? As in: they don't plow and you'd probably die trying to drive across a mountain with that much snow on it? -

What he said.. most of the clutch forks I've seen are greenish rather than black though.. you'll need a 10mm wrench and a 12mm wrench. -
Building the RX? RX Masters Please Post Here!
SuBrat84 replied to SuBrat84's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Believe me... If I had an extra EJanything Turbo laying around it would be going right in there. I have been contemplating putting the ER27 in there.. but I just can't do that to my XT6... -

I think that goes without saying now. #1 top o' the list. -
As I'm pretty sure most all of you don't know, mostly because I've been too ashamed to admit it, I caught the RX on fire. It's my own stupid fault and it was a small fire. When I was doing my XT6 clutch job.. one of the turbo to exhaust manifold bolts snapped off and being the genius I am said to myself "It'll be FINE for a couple days with just THREE bolts holding it on!" So I'm in Phoenix at the families place spending a weekend to relax by the pool. Planning to tear into it in the morning and fix that manifold. Well about 10am a friend of mine calls me literally in tears out in the middle of the desert broken bruised and bleeding. He had been hit by a jeep cherokee while riding his dirt bike. He was asking for help.. and knew the RX would make out into the hills where he was. So I immediately got the First Aid kit and about 3 or 4 gallons of Ice water in a jug. Threw it all in the RX and TOOK OFF! At about 10:30 that morning it was 98 degrees out and I was doing 110 mph WOT down I-10 to get to Tucson ASAP. I think what happened is everything just got so hot (temp gauge was fine) that the timing started to slip.. anyway.. about 20 miles out Phoenix I was forced to pull over and smoking.. I opened the hood and to my surprise saw FLAMES. I grabbed the large water jug and dumped it on the fire. Put it all out except for one little piece of plastic that I blew out! From what I can tell most of what burned was grease, part of the 1-3 Timing Belt Cover, and a couple hoses.. maybe PCV? You can barely tell it was on fire except for some blackness where it should be whiteness. And some bubbled hoses. So, to make a long story.. apparently long.. thanks for reading. What I'm getting at here is: I want to build the RX to be Stronger, Faster, and More Reliable! We have the Ability! We have the Technology! Now all I need is some good kicks in the right direction. What I would like to do to it and hopefully you guys can help me source parts and stuff: Better Turbo (TD04?) Intercooler (WRX Top Mount? / Put in Hood Scoop?) Boost Controller (??) BOV (??) Wastegate (??) Exhaust (2.5" Turbo Back?) Intake (4" Short Ram?) Increased Fuel Supply / Better Injectors (??) Please feel free to add something I might have left out on that list? Also, I'm not sure if I'm going to do the engine re-build or not, what's your opinion?.. may have to.. but I was wondering if you guys could estimate the cost of a head shave / cam grind / better gaskets? / etc.? to do to the motor while it's apart? I just want to try and do everything right here and get this baby running GOOD!

Can someone tell me what it means and how to fix?
