  1. Fusable links? try jumping the starter like hondasucks said .. it works even better if you have an ignition bypass but a screwdriver will work in a pinch..
  2. Not too confusing... so 1&3 are R (right) and 2&4 are L(left).. right?
  3. I would be very happy if I could use your car for parts in our brat...too bad you're so far away
  4. You DEFINATELY need to have that tranny serviced!!! If you can afford to take it Grease Monkey and have them do the "Subaru Specific" tranny flush.. you need to get that old fluid out of there!!! If you are going to do it yourself.. try to do it hot.. you can only drain about 5 quarts of 10 total... that is why I say to have it done at grease monkey.. they can get more old fluid out and then replace it with clean new fluid. ATF starts to break down due to the extreme heat and wear that is put on it. It could be something more severe.. but you should start at the basics.. It took my tranny about a week for the old fluid to mix with the new fluid and start running properly again.. so now I need to change it again to get more new fluid in there...
  5. Definately going to go get a 5 spd as soon as I can afford it.. until then.. frequent tranny fluid drain and fills..
  6. Nice set up.. I think you mentioned grease twice and home brew three times Sounds like you're doing more than working on your car!
  7. motor could be burnt up.. have you tried connecting it straight to the battery? Also.. there is more than one "fan" fuse.. wish i could offer you more advice.. only problems I've ever had with fans was either the fuse or the motor was burnt out.
  8. Sounds about right... depending on how my legacy feels a lot of the time it will shift about 5500 rpms.. but sometimes I see it go up to about 6300 without me shifting it myself..
  9. Sorry it took so long....: It's 36.5 inches... I didn't measure the holes or anything....
  10. MY TORQUE BIND WENT AWAY!!! I pulled the fwd fuse out this morning for my drive to work and NO torque bind!!! Here in the next few days I'm going to change my AT Fluid again to get it that much cleaner... I guess it just needed time to mix up good.

  12. I would like to use synth but I'm too poor right now... do the XT6 need heavier oil like 20w50 or can I get away with 10w30?
  13. Yeah.. can't you take off whatever the knuckle is stuck to and replace it too?
  14. Thanks for the link!! I got an intuition that "fuel pump relay" sounds like the culprit on that one.. I am OCD about checking fusables now because I tore a ladies dash half apart (after checking FL's twice) before I knew that sometimes they burn up without showing through the casing. I check my FL's by taking one side off and giving it a slight tug to see if it's busted or not. I actually had to replace a green one for the XT6.. but it seemed to be for the power window relay. Every time I go to junkyards I take any FL's I can find... I have probably like 15 or 20 good ones of different colors. I don't know if I was specific but I had the fuel pump hardwired to the jumper cables I was using to supply power to the starter motor. That motor SCREAMS! Man it sounds so good.. I can't wait to drive it!
  15. yeah.. I don't know about a couple of those bolts/nut seems like they dont come apart... Maybe you could get a new knuckle from a junk yard? wish i had better advice for you
  16. Mine bumps a little too but rarely.. I would suspect a tranny mount more than a motor mount.. but it could be the mounts.. it was bumping real bad before I changed the plug and wires... (one of the wires insulation was bad and was arcing to a ground point and that's what was causing the bump)
  17. 1989 Subaru XT6. 5-spd Full-time 4wd. Diff Lock. 101k mi. Saved it from a u-pull-it yard. It hadn't been "processed" (Battery, Stereo, Gas Tank, Wheels Removed) yet. Asked about it... Looked at it.. Engine cranked but wouldn't start.. So I thought "Easy- Timing belts or fuel pump"... haggled it down to $420 bux.. Got hooked up with a carfax.. according to all the info I have on it.. it hadn't "ran" in ~6 years. Dug into it.. timing belts looked good.. hooked the fuel pump up direct to a good battery.. nothing. Okay. Fuel pump is bad. Got a "Free99" EA82 fuel pump from the same u-pull-it yard when YellowSub was getting a "new" headlight for the RX. Hooked it up with the old fuel filter on the tank side of the pump and drained the tank... bought a gallon of gas and pumped it through the lines 6 times to clean them up. I'm poor and two of my plug wires are f'ed up.. but I was anxious.. so I hooked everything up.. only 4 cyls.. and there it goes.. IT RUNS! and doesn't smoke! Moves under its own power! Shifts great. I could only drive it about 4 inches because I had it frankensteined to the 98 GT.. Here's the list of stuff I *need* to do to it: Spark plugs, Spark plug wires, Disty cap/rotor, Oil + Filter, Tranny and rear diff fluid, Rad Caps, Coolant flush, Timing belts, Valve Cover Gaskets, PCV Valve, Air filter, Front Axles, Tires. It needs a little interior work and a little exterior work... A new windshield wouldn't hurt.. but isn't critical or illegal.. And of course I gotta have a question in here... the fuel pump isn't getting any power at the "connector" and I DON'T want to hard-wire it with a switch if I don't HAVE to. So if anyone could give me some troubleshooting ideas to why it wouldn't be getting power back there?? Thanks for everyone's help so far. I LOVE YOU GUYS! Also, if anyone has something to add that I left out of my list of stuff to do.. please don't hesitate to throw it in there.. the car sat for SIX YEARS. I could use some tips on what to do to get it reliable. Thanks Again!!! -Eli-
  18. I got the TB in my 98 2.5 AT also.. I did the fluid change.. but did it myself.. so maybe the power flush would help.. that would be great.. Nipper, that "bump" could be a few things.. my first guess would be you need new fluids.. next after that I would check electrical stuff.. plugs, wires, disty cap/rotor, coil, etc...
  19. 98 Legacy GT 2.5 4EAT ... Ran out of room for the pic.. but I've had it up to ~135 down a 5% downgrade.. I bought it with 45k miles on it and never did anything to the ECU except unplug it once in a while..
  20. Try driving in reverse a little ways while taping on your break.. you probably have some grit in there... I would imagine you could fit anything from 4" to 6" or maybe 6.5" in your front doors.. and I don't know about the back speakers in a forester. *Edit* If you can you might try taking the wheels off to wash out the mud. I have had to do this in my Legacy.. at the self car wash.. one wheel at a time.. it ended up costing $5 because it's $1.25 per "activation" ...
  21. I like to do hot changes.. hot oil.. hot diff.. hot tranny... drain it... for the diff and tranny when adding fluid i will leave the car running in park or nuetral to keep it hot so the fluid gets down the tubes faster..
