since it's in the same series of pics I'm going to have to guess it's on one of those Suzuki's you saw in Utah... --Spiffy

Need help/knowledge on CV axle for '89 GL
Spiffy replied to RacingFlyer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this is referenced from the USRM: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=642822&postcount=9 --Spiffy -
looks like you're about to eat a big rock in that last picture... I like how you only have one rubber bumper stop in the front... both my fronts are gone, but I'm sportin' the single rubber bumper stop in the rear... --Spiffy

those wheels look pretty sweet... I think 6-lug isn't as popular on the street because the wheel style is usually more off-road looking... but these wheels look nice on the street... --Spiffy

what's this ea81 interior part, and where does it go?
Spiffy replied to Spiffy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
maybe I should mention that it's 1.75" long... no headrests in the rear of the ea81 wagons... unless it's an option I've never seen... --Spiffy -
those darn punk kids! *shakes fist in air* I go to both Les Schwab and Firestone... depends on who is cheaper at the time... my dad used to take his porsche to Goodyear... it really depends on the specific shop, not just the chain... gotta find one that has the people that will take their time and actually care a little... I wouldn't go to Firestone in Oregon City Center, but I'd go to the Firestone on Powell at 80th... --Spiffy

what fluids to use in clutch LSD
Spiffy replied to mellow65's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
subaru makes a friction modifier for the older lsd's... the part number is 003304300 according to my haynes manual... I picked up some Sta-Lube Equa-Torque instead because the local parts store had it... --Spiffy -
I'm almost sitting on my bumpstops. 89" Wagon.
Spiffy replied to Alaska Style's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
and get yourself some new springs while you're at it... you should have a lot more travel... somebody must have carried a lot of cargo in there at some point and wore them out... --Spiffy -
adjust what? idle screws are there for hot/cold... otherwise here's a good write-up by GD... --Spiffy

I would go with stock, to make people wonder if they rolled of the assembly line that way... snow camo?! who are you hiding from? hunting in the winter? animals will hear and smell that thing long before you're close enough for camo to matter... and don't plan on getting rescued if they can't find your wreckage... c(: if you're going with camo do an urban camo with bright florescent colors... that way they'll never find you if they go looking in the 80's (which is where the car is from)... --Spiffy

that trail was pretty crazy... I don't know how my friend's land rover group can even fit on there... and I have no idea what you'd do if you came head to head with another vehicle... it was tight enough with the motorcycles and atv's going by... they really should have 1-way travel on most of those trails... there was a Trailsmen event at the park so there were a lot of people... one guy got all snotty and told me how it'd be my fault if anybody hit me... most people were cool, and it was nice that they gave the hand-signs for how many more people were coming behind them... --Spiffy

"whoomp whoomp whoomp" up front.

I couldn't find a new OEM subaru axle for my '88 turbo a while back, and even the re-man ones through them were like over $400... I went to a local auto parts store (Mike's Auto) and got one with a lifetime warranty for like $65... sure it might break, but it'll be free to replace... I haven't had to shop for an ea81 axle yet, although it'd be good to have a spare... --Spiffy -
get some kyb struts... they make the ride stiffer, even the cheap GR-2 ones... if you're looking for street performance get some stiffer springs too like GeneralDisorder mentioned... --Spiffy
-
got there too late to see the Sore4x4 peeps, but I did eventually find the tree... --Spiffy

totally weak... I'll still make it out there, maybe a little bit late... I'll try and say hi to your group... --Spiffy

uh oh! only doing it under acceleration and load? I had that problem, I had bent something into the exhaust and it was rattling like mad every time I took off hard from a stop or went up a steep hill... I'll be wrenching today as well, after we get back from breakfast... --Spiffy

try the Parts Wanted forum for better results... those things come up every now and then... not sure if the brats are like the wagons, but they changed the wagon tail lights in '83 by removing the chrome trim... my '82 wagon has chrome trim around the lights... I'm fairly sure that brat lights aren't interchangeable with other models... might help if you can post a picture of your light, but probably somebody with an '82 tail light will know... --Spiffy

so it would seem that removing the sway bar would be good for off-road... gives you a little more flex and lets that wheel drop down for traction when the other one just went up the far side of the rut... obviously you're going to lose handling ability on the road... but are there other subtle things to consider? let hear all the pros and cons... --Spiffy

I haven't had that happen on a subaru, yet... but on my first car, a vw bug, the lugnuts came off... the clunking was so bad by the time we pulled over to check things out that when we pulled off the hubcap all but 1 lug nut spilled out... there were just a few threads holding that last nut on... whew! --Spiffy

I'm going to try and leave around 7, which means 7:30 since I'm always a half hour late... so I should be there on time... unless I break something in the next few days... (: I renewed my OHV last month, and my map is still in great condition since I've only been out there once, and I stayed on the roads because I was solo and didn't wanna get stuck on a trail... that reminds me, I should bring an air pump... and an extra EXTRA spare tire... I'll try not to get too dirty, and trail behind the dust as much as possible... it can't be as bad as the dry california summers... now THAT was some dust... drat, I still don't have my CB installed... I'm such a slacker... need to look for some parts in the next couple days to see about getting that wired in... --Spiffy

I've heard good things about [HTi]Johnson... check out his web site: http://www.headtraumainc.com/bumpers he may be able to create something custom if you want the A-bar style instead of the bumper/brush-guard style... --Spiffy

makes me think of a trailer... what about Trails Ahead? gives me the mental image of a yellow road warning sign... --Spiffy

as Rooster2 said, it's on top of the engine, towards the back, on the driver's side... it's really not that tough to replace... I didn't have to use a wobbler, but it did take some time to get that little sensor down in there... I always go to the dealer and have them print me out the page with the sensor on it so I know where it is... --Spiffy
