  1. I think of that every time I aim for a puddle... I just can't resist the rooster tail... I just hope my inner fender well liner holds up so I don't suck water in there... (: --Spiffy
  2. if your wheel/axle seals are in good shape I'd think you could cross 8" of water slowly with no problem... as others stated you start going fast and that water get up under the hood where it shouldn't, which is one of the reason why the hood is there... the water sitting on all the electrical components will cause corrosion faster... some have had good success with sealing up the electrical connectors, but the newer the car the more connectors there are... rubber gloves, zip ties, etc, can help you seal some of the things up... but you'll always want to check bearings and oils to make sure you're not getting water in there if you go in deep a lot... --Spiffy
  3. if I remember correctly my ea82 had a relay behind the passenger side strut tower that also worked the fan... there's 2 or 3 there that look the same... that and the thermo switch are where the problem will likely be... --Spiffy
  4. with a 2.5 and that light rear end you'll see more driftin' miles than straight... drift on! --Spiffy
  5. I knew I wasn't the only one that used that solution... hehe... --Spiffy
  6. my '85 was having the same problem on a trip out with TheSubaruJunkie one day... it was a long hot drive home... replaced the radiator and the problem was gone... --Spiffy
  7. hehe, no, really... the bald tires aren't bad at all, until you aren't paying attention and the cords start showing... almost ended up in a ditch a few times... now I only let them get bald in one area (middle or edge) before replacing them... (: I didn't know the welded diff would eat up the tires that bad... yikes! btw, that's a really cool front bumper and roof rack... I gotta get me one of those, er both of those, one of these days... I need some nerf bars too, I like sliding over things and banging into rocks and stumps too much... --Spiffy
  8. there's no point in moving the ebrake to the rear, unless you want to do some fun sliding, which is likely to wind up with you off the road and more repairs needed... like TheSubaruJunkie said, get some kyb struts, the help A LOT... you can get some decent looking 13" rims anywhere, but for better performance and less sidewall movement you can get some peugeot rims in 14" or 15" and run a lower profile tire with the same outer diameter... and yeah, they aren't THAT rare... but you don't want to make it more rare by thinking it's a stock-car and racing it into the ground... do the little things and drive it within its limits... enjoy it for longer... --Spiffy
  9. a quick google search turned up this: http://www.aa1car.com/library/2000/ic60032.htm "High carbon monoxide (CO) emissions are a telltale sign of a rich fuel mixture. On older carbureted vehicles, fuel-saturated plastic floats, incorrect float settings, leaky power valves and misadjusted chokes are often responsible for the rich mixture. On newer vehicles with feedback fuel controls and fuel injection, leaky injectors, excessive fuel pressure and sluggish or contaminated O2 sensors are all possibilities to investigate." so as zstalker suggested there's probably some gunk built up in there that needs to be worked out... you may be able to run some fuel system cleaner through there... and always make sure the car is fully warmed up when you have it tested... --Spiffy
  10. I got mine at a local-run auto parts shop for $20 per side for my '82... I had to drill the old ones out of the bracket, but the new ones came with a bolt to replace it, so it all went pretty well... very true! mine were temp sensitive and I'd get used to it working and then the temp would change and the door would fall on me... very annoying... so I replaced them... --Spiffy
  11. I've already got 2 spacers (one on each side) so I shouldn't need to worry about that... I think... since if I got one that was longer to the heads I could just remove the spacers... I think the thing I'm most concerned with is the length back to the flange where it meets the next section of exhaust... mine is about 45" from flange to flange (not too exact since I measured it on the car)... what are ASV's? --Spiffy
  12. I'm looking at replacing my y-pipe and wonder if any ea81 y-pipe will fit on my wagon... does it matter if it's from a brat or a hatch? will the length still be the same so that it meets the flange at the right place to the rest of the exhaust? mine has the little spacers off the heads that turn the flange 90 degrees, but I assume that it's optional depending on which one I get whether those flanges are pointing the correct way... --Spiffy
  13. cool site, just wish I knew what could be registered for the road here in the states... --Spiffy
  14. I did a little bit of searching and couldn't find anything in the US... canada, japan, and the UK were all that came up... --Spiffy
  15. welcome! yes, those wheels are much nicer than the covers that were on there before... nice to see those non-US options as well... neat headlight squirters... and in-bumper rear license plate light... cool air dam on the front.... --Spiffy
  16. I learned a while ago that it's not advantageous to drive on bald tires, especially with the cords showing... and it looks like you need some nerf bars below your rockers/doors to prevent further bashing of the area... (: --Spiffy
  17. mine isn't a Leggy, so this probably won't help, but... I've got about 2600 rpm at 60mph in the '00 Fozzy... 2.5 with 5mt... --Spiffy
  18. here's a great thread all about lifts and wheels... dunno why it's not a sticky anymore... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24980 I know I read somewhere that the 6 lug wheels to look for are chevy, toyota, and nissan... maybe a couple others... you basically use 2 of the holes and then drill 2 more between the leftover 4 holes... or convert your hubs to 6 lug... you can see one such conversion at the bottom of the wheels page... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/wheels.html#modified I'm sure you can find a thread with more instruction... --Spiffy
  19. the lug pattern is not the same, only subaru and peugeot wheels have the same lug pattern, or drill out some 6 lug wheels... also, 7" is pretty wide... --Spiffy
  20. exactly why my baby seat manual says I can't use them... ): and they might be different between models, which might mean a lot of trial and error getting one that latches safely... if possible maybe you can take your male belt end to a junkyard and start clicking into other models until you find something shorter that works... --Spiffy
  21. I'm voting for alternator as well... but it would be something as simple as a slightly loose belt... or it could be the AC pump... my bet is on something with a belt attached... get one of those automotive stethoscopes and get under the hood one morning... --Spiffy
  22. does it HAVE to be mounted int he center position? as crazyhorse001 said, there's usually a clip that you can use for the side seat belts that will hold the belts together so they won't move and make it act more like a single center belt... I'm having this same issue with my Forester though... http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=88543 the seat belts have the wrong kind of action on them and since they won't "lock" into place I can't use the seat belt system... however I think I can use the LATCH hooks on the child seat to connect to the seat mounting brackets and get it secure... will need to set it up and then have it inspected to see if the authorities think it's safe... --Spiffy
  23. wow, that thing is beautiful! nice score! more pics! --Spiffy
  24. I was just looking at that as well and wondering the same thing... I like the idea of having a complete bolt-on kit you can do in a weekend, but it's odd when there's a function missing... it also seems strange that the steel kit only weighs 1 pound more than the aluminum one... I wonder what the up/down side is to each kit... I was thinking aluminum would be the way to go for weight, but it doesn't look that way... I'd think steel would be stronger... --Spiffy
  25. so my first instinct is to hit the flag button and ask to have this thread moved to the non-subaru board... then I see that there are a few subaru pictures... but mostly the same ones that were posted already linked in another thread... bad etiquette to post that many huge pictures in a post when you can more easily link to an index of all the pictures... and I know it's hard to believe but some of the users (a) use 56k modems, and/or ( don't like to look at the other makes of cars in a subaru forum... now my thought moves more toward why there is so much talk about a regular car show in the subaru area at all... I had to go back and look at the sticky thread and check the website... I hadn't looked before since it's an east coast thing, but I assumed it was subaru related... I was wrong... but now I know to avoid any thread with Carlisle in the name... --Spiffy
