I'm having the same problem with the voltage bouncing... it seems to jump around from 14 to 16 and all the lights and everything pulsate with it... I figure it's probably the voltage regulator in the alternator going out... *shrug* mine doesn't do it all the time, but it's quite often... haven't had any problems with it draining my battery...

I snagged the white canister off a loyale and it's still having the same problem... the canister seems to be holding air, at least it releases pressure when I take off the vacuum lines... anybody have a clear picture of what my vacuum hose configuration should be? I have only one of those "vacuum" valves in the line coming off the intake... it seems like there should be one before the white canister or something... here's a large pic of my vacuum system highlighted... the cruise is the blue line... tell me if there's something obviously missing... http://easilyamused.com/subaru/misc/vacuum_highlight.jpg I tend to think it's not the vacuum lines into the controls because it changes when accelerating and decelerating... the vacuum to the controls should be constant, so if they were the problem it would happen randomly... *shrug* right now I just want to know if things are plugged in right... maybe somebody else in portland has an ea82t I can compare with and we can both stand there and stare at the hoses until something pops out at us... (: on a side note, the 4wd works, but the cruise doesn't... not sure if the cruise problem is also vacuum related or not... but at least the 4wd is getting its vacuum...

Rear window defroster problem?
Spiffy replied to LEGACYTUNER's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
first check the contacts that the rear defroster plugs into on the window to see if they're getting voltage... then you'll know if it's electrical or the window... -
so I've noticed that my vent controls don't usually work when I'm accelerating... they usually work fine when I'm at idle or decelerating... obviously there's a vacuum leak somewhere in the line that keep the pressure up to direct air flow... when accelerating it doesn't matter what vent I select it always comes out of the dash vents... so where's the line that feeds the vacuum for my vent controls? it sure would be nice to have my defroster available all the time... (: thanks!

ok, so I was about to replace the plugs on my 2000 legacy... the boots on the head were really tough... I was going to yank one real quick to see what shape they were in... decided to just yank the airbox water collector for easy access... but, when I yanked on the boot it seeped oil... so it looks like there is oil in there, and the plug boot intentionally holds it in... is this normal? wtf?! is there some sort of trick to getting the wires off intact? I don't want to just yank them out and have them break... I wasn't planning on replacing the wires... oh, and is the plug gap supposed to be .044? (: thanks!

I haven't had any problems with mine... I bought it in december with 72k miles on it and it now has 91k... the only expensive thing that's gone out was the knock sensor... clutch and head gaskets are still going strong... on my '85 GL I had 250k on it and no problems with the clutch... as long as you take care of your subaru it will last forever... don't race the clutch and don't overheat the engine and you'll be fine... I'm selling my 2000 Legacy GT wagon... can't afford the payments... ):

you know, it looks like a subwoofer under the passenger seat there in my 2000 Legacy GT... but, there's never any real vibration there... so what's up? is it a subwoofer? I've got the tweet option and think the sub is in there too... why isn't it moving air? there's a decent amount of bass... good sounding system though... from a jvc mp3 deck... good seperation...

I'm getting the famous P0325 code on my 2000 legacy gt... it came right back when I cleared it so it's probably not lying to me with the 325 code... picking up a new sensor today but have no idea where it's located on the engine... so where can I find this bugger? any tricks to replacing it I should know about in advance? thanks!

Code Reader Help
Spiffy replied to wahoo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I tried the Harbor Freight Universal Code Scanner on my 2000 Legacy with no luck... this thing just doesn't seem to like Subarus... will have to return it... the local Schucks (Kragen/Checker) says they have a good one that you can borrow for a $200 refundable deposit... I'll probably go that route... -
Hondasucks, that looks like a good resource... although they didn't show anything in stock... I sent them a quote email, so maybe they'll be able to find me one... mattocs, at $225 from the dealer $200 isn't any savings... I'm looking for something under $100... I already replaced 2 of these damn things this year...

where can I get used parts for my 2000 Legacy in the Portland, OR area? specifically I'm looking for a 16" alloy wheel for my GT right now... it's the 18-spoke version (http://miserable.com/~spiffy/stuph/wheel.jpg) this is the newest car I've owned and I'm used to going to the local pick-a-part for my older-gen soobies... now that I've got this new one I have no idea where to get 2nd-hand parts for it... thanks!

I've heard some people say that it's not a good idea to change to synthetic oil after too many miles... well I've got 72,000... not sure if this mythical mileage limit applies to my 2000 Legacy GT... what are your thoughts? and if I switch are there specific steps I should take to transition over? also, what's your reccommendation for brand/type of oil and filter? I'm a pretty hard driver... I'd like a balance of protection and performance...

S. OR camp/trail run. Sep 19-21
Spiffy replied to a topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
damn, that does sound really fun... but grant's pass is a long way from portland for somebody with no job... talking to Subaru Junkie I could co-pilot with him if I drove my subie down to the campsite... but I had already made some tentative plans with the girlfriend for us to camp in washington (gifford pinchot) thur-sat... I'd go with her and drive my car on the trails, but that has a couple complications... 1) my ride is pretty stock, and 2) it's my only ride and I can't afford to fix anything I break... but I have 2 job interviews on monday, so we'll see what happens... I'll likely be joining another run some time in the near future, I hope... (:
