Welp, gonna put it back together today. There is a shop close to work that I've noticed gen 2's at occasionally. Thanks everyone for all the imput. Unfortunately my problem wasn't resolved. I'll let you all know what happens.

The hellas are not wired in ATM. I just had them wired from the battery, hadn't done a permenant install yet. I swapped the headlight relays with the ones from my '84. No change. I can't borrow the switch from the '84 because a couple months back the plastic male/female connector on the '85 headlight switch harness was toast, so i took that part out. I dont want to cut up my '84 switch.

Good morning guys and gals! So I still haven't fixed my headlight problem. Been over every inch of my Brat. We have gotten very close. Really all im left with is a faulty switch solution. I have a switch from an '80 (thanks Mikaleda!) I could use, but the pins on the '80 switch harness are set up differently than the '85. Now my question is if I re-pin the '80 harness so the wires correspond to the '85 pins, will this work or am I asking for trouble? This is really starting to suck. I love driving my Brat and my wife wants her Jeep back.

'87 GL Front Caliper Pistons Not Depressing
jonas replied to BoxerRebellion's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes I have not only priced, but bought. They work flawlessly. You have no idea what my experience with brakes, if I just didn't want to use the correct tool, or not, is. Thanks for the personal attack and veiled insult tho. -

Just get new calipers. Not that expensive from Rockauto and you have piece of mind of knowing your calipers will be working correctly. -
OOPS! posted in wrong thread! Sounds exactly like my problem except i havent replaced my bulbs. I did plasti-dip my headlight retaining rings but i did nothing to the actual buckets. Would that be messing with the grounds? Maybe i just have crappy tired pins and need to re-pin? Everything was working fine for about a week after i dipped. thatnks for the imput. Every little bit gets me closer.

Need quad-headlight wiring diagram 85 Brat
jonas replied to pressingonward's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds exactly like my problem except i havent replaced my lights, but it does give me an idea. I recently did plasti-dip the retaining rings (the metal rings the hold the lights in place) for the headlights, but didn't do anything to the actual buckets. and if i'm reading right i do need some bare metal to complete the ground. Funny, it worked just fine for about a week after i did it. -
I just know when I fix this it will be something incredibly simple. Right?

Would a faulty headlight cause something like this? When I unplug the pass. side low beam both low and hi beams go out on pass side but driver side is unaffected. When I repeat it on the drivers side the hi and low beam lights only go out if I unplug each one individually, pass side unaffected. Oh, and the only round thing behind the fuse box is the wiper relay. I think the headlight relays are the 2 round silver ones just to the right of the fuse box. They are fine. I'm getting a new headlight switch so I hope that's it.
-
cool, i'll check it out.
-
Anyone know where the headlight relays are located?
-
Thanks Ru, i did check that wire, It is grounded firmly. Stuck my hand back there and gave it a good tug and it didn't budge. I've pretty much resigned myself to having to take it to a shop. I haven't done anything except remove headlights to repaint front and installed off road lights, and those are powered from the battery with their own relay. I have spent hours going over every inch under the hood and behind the dash. Lost.....

I know the one you're talking about. Looks fine on a visual but i'll actually pull it apart. Gonna put a replacement light switch in but i don't hold out much hope for that.
