i finally got my "A" bar lights intalled this weekend. so far i'm diggin' it. lit 'em up last nite and was impressed considering they were only $25.00 for the set. 55W Pilot halogens. bought a seperate red LED switch to use since as you all know those switches (and i like cool switches) that come with are crap. next i plan on installing a set of driving lights in the lower part of the "A" bar on either side of the plate, possibly two more on the rack to make a continuous row of lights on top, and maybe, just maybe a set just above the mirrors, jeep style! so do i have a sickness and desperatly need help or should i embrace my sickness and go down that road to wherever it takes me?

Need Opinions Within 37 MINUTES!!!!
jonas replied to NuclearBacon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
pull a batt. from one of your other cars and see if it will fire up. i'm suspecting timing belt myself. -

coolcoolcool.... those were what i was thinking of. do you get them thru Autozone or is the warranty thru them? do i need to order online? gotta do brakes anyway, one of my axles is shot, again, so i'm going to replace w/NEW and do brakes, and swap to rear disc. so i figure do it all at once.

thanks!

i can't for the life of me recall the name of the CO. that people order their new (NOT REMAN) EA81 axles from. got an '84 wagon and i'm sick of replacing remans every year. if they last that long.

Early B-Day arrival **Edit **EEK**
jonas replied to Turbone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks! i think 200 is very affordable for a quality motor being shipped from colorado. i happen to work within a few blocks of several nationwide shipping companie hubs/terminals so i could p/u myself. i think i just may get one for my '84 wagon next summer....... -

saw a trucker in seattle w/a 3 foot one on the side of his sleeper. cb'd over to confirm it was a thundercats decal. mine is only 3 inches. but i thought it was cool.

Finished my winch bumper!!
jonas replied to crockettbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
very nice! would look even better on my '84 wagon! recessing those turn signals into the bumper would give it a much more cleaner/finished look, IMO. but still props to ya!!! -
somethings up. just keep going over it i guess.... the plate is sitting rock solid now so i dunno whats up.
-
actually, on the EA81 they fit just fine. my gasket was too thin so the adaptor wasn't seating firmly. thanks tho. now i just gotta figure out why it won't idle. dies on me. i still haven't switched out the 3 prong fuel filter for the 2 yet, so i'm hoping that will have a positive effect.
-
well, i'm gonna try doubling the gasket. should make it thick enough to stop the movement of the adaptor plate.
-
Yay!
-
i tried a search and w/the angles of pics i just couldn't tell. do i need to put that plastic 1/4 inch thick or so o-ring gasket type thing thats between the hitachi and manifold back on between the weber adapter and manifold? the adaptor seems a little loose, barely detectable movement. would doubling the gaskets work just as well? or do i need that piece. i thinks i may have tossed it.
-
hey, things are looking good. i realize i'm not driving a race car. i swear my milage has gotten better. thats how bad my hitachi sucked.. just a matter of adjustment now. still getting some dieseling (timing should fix that) and a little bucking, again just some adjustment. i WILL move forward!!!

spfi swap... code 13 with 2 distys
jonas replied to matts87glsedan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
EA82 SPFI conversion manual by Snowman maybe this will help? you are probably already using it tho? sry best i can do. also do a search on posts by General Disorder as he seems to be very knowledgeable on this subject and has more than likely covered this topic/question. again i hope this helps. -
ok got the timing set to a solid 9 degrees. dieseling is practically gone now, stilll does it every now and then and only for a sec. now i'll just focus on idle/mixture set up and hope that cures it. still got great bottom end response but top end still seems to be holding back. *sigh* :-\

Does anyone think they can fix this
jonas replied to mellow65's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
jeff spicoli:Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it. KILL LINCOLN! -
loosen the bolt at the bottom left of the disty base. should be a 10 mm socket. turn the disty clockwise or counter to advance or retard the timing. have engine idle at 700 to 800 rpms. manual says 8 degrees but i've found it varys slightly with each car i've owned.
-
i finally got my weber on! still got some fine tuning to do. not much top end power, actually seems kinda doggy past 50. was dieseling really bad w/timing set at 8 degrees. bumped it to 8.5 to a light 9 and it got better, still dieseling just not as bad. i'm going to bump it to a solid 9 degrees tomorrow and see what happens. i also think my lack of top end is due to it running too lean. i'll work on that tomorrow also. no vac leaks so i know i'm just at the fine tuning stage. i'm tired and i want a beer.

I HAD to show this to everyone here... *PICS*

welp, done for the day. thanks for the tips Loyale. letting the weld set overnight. parts store didn't have any vac. line plugs, grrr. only one parts store in my town. soooo i have to wait till i get off work tues. for those. i believe i may need a new fuel line as my current one appears to be a couple inches too short. i'll find out tomorrow when i can start bolting it on. old crappy carb removed, manifold and new carb prepped and ready to go, now it's Miller Time!
