npnp... since you will have it apart anyway may i suggest this? i just used a red permenant marker on the lightbulbs in the cluster. it would be a good idea to replace all those bulbs anyway.

anyone ever replace windshield?
jonas replied to jonas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my replacement glass is used and still has black glue like stuff that needs to be cleaned off on the edges. i think i just may bite the bullet and have it done. buying all the stuff necessary to do this for just a one time deal really doesn't make much sense. -

well, if i can't do it myself i'll have to make some calls this week. i've had plenty of glass replaced in this area and have found most shops are pretty much...well...umm... hows a nice way of saying this... jerks?? i do know of a couple of mobile guys who have done good fair work for me. ill get hold of them and see what they say. moulding is good. windshield was replaced a couple of years ago. -
need to put new windshield in '84 wagon. have replacement. never done it myself. is it pretty easy to do ones self or should i have a shop do it. i suspect a shop may not do it unless i buy the glass thru them.

what a dumby i am! i shoulda thought of that. easiest fix staring me in the face. took it back to tire shop. it is alot better now. still a little vibration. i'm gonna take it to a different location (schwabbies were talking about so i shoulda known better) by my work. maybe those guys have a little more talent. ty GD. plus they handle most of our trucking fleet tire work. maybe that'll make 'em try a little harder!

'84 gl wagon 4x4. i've got an annoying vibration comming up thru my steering wheel. things i've done. 1. replaced bad cv. 2. new tires. 3. balanced and aligned. 4. replaced rear u joint. 5. inspected ball joints. look good. 6. gone over front end w/ a comb. nothing unususal looking. 7. car never been wrecked. 8. vibration not noticable (doesn't mean it's not there) below 50 mph. now i'm leaning towards bad wheel bearings even tho i've done the "jack it up and wiggle the wheel" test and they are solid. not a bit of movement. i also started and put in gear while raised and they did have an up and down movement/vibration while rotating. am i off base here? this is really driving me nuts. any advice before i start tearing it apart would be appreciated.

i used clear bulbs and a red magic marker. since i had to replace some burned out lights anyway i fingered i would try it out. i'm gonna do my dome and glove box lights too. if you have the amber lights don't worry about marking the yellow plastic with the red marker. it comes out fine. i also suggest replacing ALL the bulbs since you will have the dash cracked open anyways. those old bulbs are suprisingly brittle....

yeah, i'm quite pleased w/the results. i also made the heater and vent controls red also.

dash of an '84GL wagon. enjoy!

is there some simple fix to get my windshield/bug squirters working? my 3rd subie and none of 'em have had working squirters.
-
i've decided on red. off to look for red bulbs today or a red paint for bulbs. i'll post a pic of it when i'm done.
-
i'm leaning to red but i won't be able to do anything till monday. it'll just depend on what color bulbs i'll be able to get my hands on locally.

hi guys. i have some dashlights out and it is highly irritating since most of my driving is at night. so i got my dash apart and i got to thinking about changing to a different color than the current amber color. has anyone done this? what color did you go to? what did you use to replace those little amber plastic pieces for speedo/tach? i'm thinking either red, blue, or green. i like blue but practically every piece of interior in my car, '84 wagon, is blue. if no one has done this then i intend to be the first!

actually i think it's a requirement. -
that guy is a crook. learn to do it yourself. it is suprisingly easy to do with minimal tools. how much he charge you? ps there is a write up on this very thing in the USRM section.

hey bud yeah i remember. i just remember you talking about '85 turbos is all. wanted to know what other years are interchangeable. gonna need brakes soon so i figure i may as well swap while i'm at it. and keep all that info comming guys! i think i'll add the valve. i haven't heard one person state that adding it will ************ ************ up so on it goes. rather put it on now than later.
