Welcome to the USMB. In general, you'll probably find a lot of used cars for sale with just under or a litle over 100k miles. Typically people dump the cars before the 100k maintenance. If you go with a turbo car, try and find out about its maintenance history and whether the oil was changed religiously. If it wasn't, I might suggest keep looking. You may want to try posting in the new gen forum with any specific questions as it gets a little more traffic. I'd also suggest checking out http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums if you haven't already done so.

When you say center of the dash are you referring to the center portion where the HVAC controls are? Or are you wanting to fish a wire behind the dash the length of the dash? If it's the latter, you can remove the glove box and lower kick panel on the driver's side to access things and route the wire. It's not too bad.

Welcome to the USMB. I have heard there are some small differences with the internals, but I'm not knowledgable enough on the specific differences. If you don't get an answer here, I'd suggest calling Andrewtech, http://www.andrewtechautomotive.com/ They do a lot of trans work and could probably help you.

Welcome to the USMB. I don't think the cruise switch breaking is related to the ABS light coming on, but anything is possible. I think your best bet is to try and find another cruise rocker switch. There aren't too many members from Australia on here. You may want to try http://www.rslibertyclub.org/forums/ or some of the other Australia or NZ forums to try and find a new rocker switch. Also if you have any local junk yards, you could see if similar year Imprezas have the same cruise rocker switch.

Steve, I don't think that should be an issue powering them from the main relay as long as you're not overloading the relay. I'm really not sure what to tell you. Usually it's wiring, sensor, or the ECU. It sounds like you've checked everything. The only thing I can think of is that the problems you are having are a symptom not the cause and are being caused by something else. So if there's anything else that is maybe not 100% right, like the blow off valve, try fixing that and see what happens. I wish I had some better suggestions. As for the stand alone, I'm running a LInk G4. I would not recommend going with a stand alone.....they're just too much work from the tuning side of things...and a lot of money. Go with a Rob tune ECU....it's much less money, and produces good results. Unless you're trying to go crazy with this thing and have a lot of money to dump into it.....the stand alone route wouldn't be my recommendation. -
Yes, I usually redo all the wheel lug nuts after getting tires since the shop guys go crazy with the impact gun. Do you feel the pulsating more in the brake pedal or the steering wheel? If it's more in the brake pedal, the chances are more likely that the rear brakes are the problem. If you feel it more in the steering wheel the fronts are more likely the cause.

You need to get the speedo working again, as the ECU goes into a minor "limp" mode. I'm not saying that is causing the fuel pump to go out, but can cause drivability issues. The common failure point on the auto trans cars is the base pieces that screws into the trans. They are pretty easy and cheap to replace (assuming the 98 has a cable driven speedo...) Steve, Nice looking setup! One comment I've got....don't think it's necessarily related to any issues you're having, but it looks like you are dumping your bypass valve to atmosphere. This allows metered air to escape and can cause the engine to run rich. If you can do it, it would be preferable to run that back into the intake somewhere before the turbo. -
Welcome to the USMB. I personally have not had good luck with turning rotors, so I usually just replace the rotors with new rotors. After turning the rotors, they will have less material and could be prone to issues again (depending on how much material was removed). If you money is tight and this is just to get by, as long as they're within the service limit, you could do it and replace the rotors later.

Does the speedometer still work? The odometer and speedo are one integrated unit. So if one works and the other doesn't some of the plastic gears in the odometer might have broke. There are subtle enough differences in the shape of the gauge cluster, plus different wiring that would make swapping the clusters prohibitive IMO. If the speedo does not work, then I would check the cable. Is her Impreza an auto or manual? If auto, the base piece that screws into the transmission where the cable attaches is common failure point. They are pretty easy and cheap to replace.
