  1. Here's some info regarding the smaller vs. larger oil filters. http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=126302
  2. Are you using a scan tool to determine that the car is still in open loop? Can you give us a little more background on the high idle problem. Is this a recent problem or have you had it for a while? Anything that may have changed when you first started having the problem?
  3. Relay location information for the first gen Legacy can be found on my site. http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap/electrical.html#location The horn relay is under the driver's side dash to the far left. The wiper fluid pump is probably setup to a fuse, not a relay.
  4. If you haven't found one you may want to try posting on the Legacycentral BBS. There are several members from the Vancouver BC area that may be able to provide some input.
  5. It's possible something got stuck or one of the gears got stripped out. If you look up at the center part of the dash from under the driver's side, you can probably see some plastic channels/guides/levers used to control the vent position. Have someone press the buttons while you look to see if you can pin point which lever controls what. Then you may be able to try pushing the lever along when it fails to move. If it is something internal to the vent mechanism, the dash would most likely have to be removed so it can be repaired. Here's the 97 factory manual for the Legacy. It should be close enough and have diagrams which may help. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/1997_Legacy_FSM/
  6. You talking about the bushings at the end of the rods for the piston wrist pin? If so, yeah they should be fine. I never touched them when I rebuilt my motor. If they are in spec, I wouldn't worry about them.
  7. You may want to call the dealer and ask. Or you can create an account on http://www.mysubaru.com and put in the VIN to check.
  8. What year and model Subaru are you looking to swap it into?
  9. Welcome to the USMB. A company called Scorpion I believe makes lift kits. They are based out of Australia. I'm not sure if they're still producing the kit, or if you can find a retailer in the states that may have one. http://scorpionsubaru.com/product.htm Hopefully someone else can chime in as well.
  10. Is there a reason you replaced the existing pullies? Were they bad? Can you elaborate on the washers you installed?
  11. Welcome to the USMB. As for the headlights, they should have relays in the fuse box in the engine bay. Did you check those? It could be the switch, but you'd need to do a little more digging with a volt meter to track it down. The coolant overflow tube.....you might be able to jb weld it or something similar with epoxy for a little while, but it will likely break again. Replacing the radiator is probably the only sure fire way to fix it. For the alarm, you may want to check out http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum
  12. What motor were the pulleys from that you installed on the JDM motor? I'm assuming the JDM motor is DOHC?
  13. You may have to push the connector in a little bit as it may be catching on the tab for the sensor. Pushing it in may loosen it enough where you can press the tab down and remove the connector.
  14. I'd suggest replacing the t-stat. It sounds like the current t-stat may be a non-Subaru t-stat. The Subaru t-stats are different and make a difference in how the cooling system works. I'd start there, and if that doesn't help, check the radiator.
  15. When I went in, I just showed them the seat belt and where it was frayed....that's it.
  16. I would think it should be applicable as well to Canadian cars. I'd suggest calling up your local Subaru dealer. It's something they'll do under warrantee and must be done by them.
  17. Goin to move your post to the old gen forum. That would be the correct place to post. Thanks
  18. This is for the 2004 model, but should help. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/2004_STi_Cylinder_Block_Info.Pdf I'd suggest checking out NASIOC as they may likely have the 2010 info.
  19. Yes, it will be a direct swap. The part #'s are the same. The STi is the only one that has a different part #.
  20. If they're sold in packs of four, you'll need four packs of four. They likely do that since each cylinder requires four lifters.
  21. I would think the Outback springs are going to be a little stiffer than the forester due to it being slightly larger. The forester was built off the impreza chassis. With that being said, you can probably use impreza springs as well. I would think that the 93-01 Impreza springs should be similar/same as the 95-99 Legacies
  22. All the gaskets are new, including that doughnut gasket after the cats. The exhaust smell is a "pre cat" exhaust smell, so if I have a leak it's before the cats. Here's some pictures of the testing I did this weekend. I pressured up the system with about 30 psi, and could not hear or feal any leaks besides what was slowly coming by the cutting board & rubber seal on the front headers. http://main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/exhausttesting/ It doesn't sound like there's any EGR parts on non-EGR heads. I'll work on cleaning up the power steering leak on the off chance that is the problem. It's been like this for over a year....it's more like a puzzle now...haha
  23. Yeah I do not have EGR, so no pipe. Like I mentioned above, I don't know if the heads were machined for EGR, even if they don't have it. There's no exhaust leak that I can hear. The only odd thing, and it's been like this since I owned the car is under heavy acceleration and higher rpms I hear a whistle type sound. From past experience this is probably an exhaust leak, but from previous experience it was in the muffler. Thanks for the comments guys.
