  1. I've got all the heat shielding. The first gen legacies did not have any of the additional valving or sensors on the tanks. All that it has is the two main vent ports coming off the tank that go to the fuel separator and then there is a single vent line that runs to the canister in the front. Here are some pictures from my awd & 5spd swap. Yeah, any pictures you can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  2. I'm running a stand alone, so I'm not worried about the ECU. I'm looking at this due to how the old turbo Legacy evap system has both the main purge valve and an auxiliary purge for the canister while the new systems only have the main purge valve. Granted the new systems do have quite a bit more stuff associated with them, but what I'd like to play with is combining certain pieces from the new system with the old. Under certain circumstances, mainly when it's hot (which it is quite often in Houston) the main purge on the charcoal canister doesn't keep up with the fuel vapors coming off the tank if I'm in boost a bunch. Due to running a different airbox and custom intake setup I don't have the auxiliary purge installed. It may not be easy to do and have its own challenges, but like everything else I've done on this Legacy almost nothing is stock and everything has required a fair amount of customization to make it work My first question is whether I can physically fit the new charcoal canister in the car. If I can't do that I won't even bother looking into things further. So this is why I'm looking for some decent pictures on how things are installed on the car. Thanks
  3. I'm contemplating whether I want to try and convert to the newer style (rectangle) charcoal canister that is in the back of the car vs. the older cylindrical canister in the engine bay. I have not seen the newer rectangle canisters mounted and in the car, so I was looking for some pictures of where exactly it is mounted under the car in the rear and how it's mounted. Here's a picture of the rectangular canister and filler pipe from a craigslist add. I'd like to see how it's installed under the car. Thanks
  4. Welcome to the USMB. I'd recommend checking out the old gen forum and the Subaru retrofitting forums. There's more info there.
  5. The ECU primes the fuel system (runs the pump for 3 secs) and then turns off if it does not detect the engine cranking. Once the ECU starts receiving a crank signal it will turn the fuel pump on. This is a safety feature in the event you're in a crash, the fuel lines are damaged, and the engine has stopped. The ECU will shut off the fuel pump so it's not pumping fuel all over the place.
  6. I'd suggest posting in the Subaru transplant & old gen forum as some of the members that frequent those forums more may be able to answer your questions.
  7. Welcome to the USMB. You may be able to connect the heated seats wiring/switch and same with the fogs. The 06 Legacy I had was pre-wired for fogs, so there was a kit with a new switch and fogs that made everything work. I'd suggest posting a separate thread in the New gen forum asking that question.
  8. Welcome to the USMB and glad to see some more Texas Subie owners
  9. Welcome! Definitely check out the old gen Subie forum as that'll have the most information.
  10. You're welcome! You just need to line up all the timing marks. If you have cam locking tools that would probably help with reinstalling of the timing belt and to minimize the chance of something getting damaged, but I don't know if they're absolutely necessary.
  11. You are only allowed to attach a certain amount of pictures and yes they must be below a certain size, I think it tells you. I would recommend using an image hosting service like imageshack, photobucket, or imgur.
  12. Welcome to the USMB. Have you taken the timing belt off? Any chance you could take some pictures of the crankshaft keyway and sprocket?
  13. Welcome to the USMB. The t-stat is located on the bottom side of the engine. where the lower radiator hose attaches. I would also check the radiator cap as it sounds like it may not be allowing the coolant from the expansion bottle to be sucked back in when the coolant contracts.
  14. Welcome to the USMB. If the XT has a timing belt change around 100,000 miles, then yes I would probably also change the water pump as well. I'm not sure on the costs, but maybe others can chime in.
  15. Welcome to the USMB. We don't have the GX model in the US, but I'm guessing it is non-turbo. You really can't get a lot more power of the non-turbo engines, but things like performing a tune-up are a good first step. Also, things like a light weight crank pulley can help a little bit and removing the snorkel in the fender to help the engine breathe better. I'm going to move your post to the new gen forum where more folks will view it.
  16. This was posted by user "jgvmt". He accidently clicked the report link button instead of reply.
  17. Yup, that's definitely an EGT sensor. I would recommend having an exhaust shop weld on an O2 sensor bung so you can install an O2 sensor. The O2 sensor should be just downstream of the turbo at an angle to prevent moisture build up. You can see in this picture where the stock location is just after the turbo on the downpipe.
  18. Welcome to the USMB. On the first gen Legacies (89-93 in Japan) the O2 sensor in the turbo downpipe. Is this where you're seeing the temp sensor? If so, that was probably modified by the previous owner. The O2 sensor should be at the top of the downpipe right after the turbocharger. Can you confirm your engine is the single turbocharger setup.
