  1. these: http://www.harborfreight.com/macpherson-strut-spring-compressor-set-3980.html and we have used them on other vehicles besides the Legacies....
  2. well, you have two codes to start with - try fixing those items. start with the smallest number code first - then try starting/driving, see if the code/codes come back. It is common for one single problem item to cause multiple codes over time.
  3. I also have the sagging door seals problem... it was recommended to me to thoroughly clean the door frame where the seal is supposed to sit, then use the black windshield adhesive to glue the seal back on to the door frame. have the adhesive, just havent gotten around to trying this method out yet. kind of like the idea of washering the little clips to help hold the seal to the door while the adhesive cures tho.
  4. have used the HF spring compressors for both of our cars - all 4 corners on each - with no problems - altho, i wouldnt recommend using an impact gun on them (not the best quality for that kind of abuse) and yeah, keeping the threads oiled DOES help. It really isnt that hard to do them by hand - if a girl can do it, you big strong guys ought to be able to do it.
  5. 1. Year and model 2. Is this a factory security system, or aftermarket??? sounds almost like the security system is tied to the fuse on those items (wont swear to it, but i think those 3 items are linked in the fuse panel?) If it is an aftermarket system that could be your problem.
  6. See - Old School Locksmith can do pretty much anything! Glad you found one to get the job done & hope it works perfectly 4 you.
  7. start with the smallest number and work upward from there. it is common for one thing to cause several codes over time. so, fix the cause of #11, and it may clear the other 2, if not, then fix the next one - #13, and so on.
  8. actually, had someone recommend this for the lawnmowers for long term storage (over winter) supposedly keeps the fuel "fresh" longer creating fewer problems with varnishing in the small passages of the carb. I have not tried it on the mowers yet, or anything else for that matter. like i said, was recommended for the mowers - no one said anything about using it in cars to me.
  9. are you trying to read codes from the dash light, or the ECU??? Dash light wont show the codes on the GL series - you have to get them from the LED on the ECU. Also, only plug in one set of connectors at a time - not both at the same time unless you want to clear codes.
  10. the white and green ones are the ones you use to get codes on these cars. (black is EJ) have you found the write up in the USRM about EA82 trouble codes yet? if not, you should take a look at that.
  11. dont need to have any kind of "sickness" to feel crummy in this kind of weather - it can, and does, affect everyone. a few tips... *Avoid being in the direct sun if at all possible. *take frequent breaks out of the sun - indoors in AC if you can. *drink lots of fluids - plain old water is fine - actually preferred. *try to plan doing outdoor stuff either in the earlier morning, or later evening when it is slightly cooler. not in the middle of the day when it is hottest. Hopefully the worst of that is past us now - humidity should be a lot better and temps slightly lower (altho was still in the low 80's with heat index @ 6am this morning...)
  12. ok, yeah, white plugs - black plugs - sorry about that...(havent personally messed with EA82 in a few years) you dont get the flashing off of the CEL on the dash - you need to remove the lower part of your drivers side dash panel (section below the steering wheel) Once you have the cover off, you will see a metal box bolted under the steering column - this is the ECU - in that metal box is a single LED light that will flash your codes - look for a small round hole in the box - about as big around as a pencil eraser - inside that hole is the LED. Try both sets of plugs (one set at a time! do not use them both at the same time or you will clear codes) and see what you get both ways.
  13. go find an old school locksmith - not the dealer (altho they should be able to do this) or the yahoo at home depot/lowes/walmart...you want a REAL locksmith. a good locksmith can make the key you are after with the code you have.
  14. yes she is, thank you. (and so am i!)
  15. you are da bestest, Matt! as for the hottest day of the year (so far) well, had to drive to school, sit for 3 hrs listening to a lousy prof, then drive home in this lovely stuff.... currently soaking up the AC at home!
  16. actually - just had a MAF failure on my 1990 legacy - I also thought it was a fuel delivery issue at first, but it was not Car did not throw a CEL for quite a while after this issue started either - but it did finally, which led me to the MAF simple check for fuel pump (located on passenger side, behind rear seat back, under carpeting - oval shaped access plate) 1. Make sure it is getting power - large colored wire on the plug (i think it is blue w/yellow stripe) - will need two people for this one - one to use the meter, one to crank engine over. 2. a simple, inline fuel pressure guage will verify fuel pressure is sufficient - it MUST be an inline type tho - Harbor Freight sells on that works fine for this. I installed between fuel filter and hard lines on the motor. Fuel pressure should be between 26-30 psi if both of those check out good - i would seriously look into the MAF. If you check my thread about it (air flow sensor problem?) you will see the testing procedures used to verify proper operation. I can also get you more info if you need it as i have a FSM for this year.
  17. Glad you said that and not me, Kara! Well, i am gonna call it fixed - drove it today with no issues - wasnt even able to get more than a mile before...put about 25 on today. lesson learned - make SURE you are reading the connectors correctly!!!!
  18. "1781cc's of Fury!" seriously tho - if you drove the Loyale for a while, then got back in the Legacy, that would feel like a "new" car - with more power!
  19. wasnt by choice! the subaru couldnt pull the darn trailer!!
  20. you might have "almost" gone crazy, but i really DID go crazy!!!!!!!!!! and the record heat & humidity have done absolutly NOTHING for improving my mood regarding this dang thing. Why is it that cars always pick either the hottest, or the coldest day(s) of the year to screw up??????? yeah, yeah...so you mentioned. bite me, dodge boy! and Kara - I am happy to hear the 'Camino is doing better. always a good feeling, isnt it?
  21. i think we have it sorted out.... swapped in a different MAF and went for a 3 mile test drive, seems to be ok now.... not saying 100% sure it is cured yet, but it might be! it really, really helps if you test the stupid connectors the right way instead of upside down/backwards... anyway, with proper readings, it did point to the MAF as being bad.
  22. yes, you need to get the trouble codes from the ECU - that will give you an excellent starting point. there is a write up in the USRM on how to retrieve the codes. on your car, the test plugs "should" be under the hood, behind the drivers side strut tower (in the vicinity of the fuel filter) there will be 2 single pole green connectors and 2 single pole black connectors - both pairs will plug into each other (ie: 1 male, 1 female of each color) There are other connectors in that area as well, but you only need to mess with the single pole green & black ones - leave the others alone. get the codes and reprot back what they are.
  23. and just what kind of "tattoo" did you get?? was it the Capt. himself or something else? Shots? dont do shots, sippin whiskey - Crown Royal, baby  heck, what am i talkin about, i dont drink hardly at all anymore - once, maybe twice a year...
