  1. indeed.. what ^^ he said... but, that said, there are plenty of places that will do chrome plating for you if you have the cash to throw at them
  2. 2 yrs down the line? they might make it right, they might not.. had the OP gone back right away, yeah, it most likely would have been made right, but 2 yrs later.. kind of a toss up. Worth trying at least, the worst they can do is say no.
  3. the "plastic cap" i was referring to is the entire plastic section of the radiator (sometimes top/bottom, sometimes sides, depending on application) - the plastic is factory sealed to the metal part and cannot be serviced.
  4. no, transmission type does not matter, unless you specifically need the cooling tubes for an auto... you can use the same radiator in a manual just fine, just cap the tube ends to keep dirt out (they should come with caps on them) It is far more cost effective for the manufacturers to make one radiator that will work in both applications than to make 2 different versions.
  5. if it is leaking at the seam where the plastic cap meets metal radiator core, then you are looking at a radiator replacement, not a "fix".
  6. i used the KYB top mounts on my 95 Lego Wagon when I did the Forester strut swap - was quite happy with them. Went brand new with everything on that one.. mounts, springs & struts - mounts & struts were KYB, springs came from Subaru.
  7. laugh all you like, but i hope you never have to try to deal with it - it is a pain in the backside. apparently he let a bad ps pump go for too long and got a lot of air in the power steering system... to the point that it was bubbling up and pushing fluid out of the reservoir when the car was turned off. yes, it does happen. I don't drive this car, so I had no idea things were that bad with it, and he never says anything until whatever is really bad.... so... when you change the pump, obviously, you also introduce air that has to be purged out - before actually running the car - it can be a process to get it all out.. (air needs to be purged before running to avoid damaging the new pump - ie: running it in a "dry" condition) - and even more so when an o-ring is compromised letting air in. and for the record, this is on a remote reservoir ps system, not one with the reservoir on top of the pump
  8. if you can get your hands on a used genuine Subaru unit, you can always have it rebuilt by a local independent rebuilder (starter & alt shop) - that is what I did with my 95's unit.. yeah, i put a parts store one in temporarily while I had the original done and it worked fine for that.. Once i got the rebuilt unit back, it went in the car, and the parts store unit went back in the box & up on a shelf - still have it, i think, lol all in all, it was a little bit more cost wise to have it rebuilt locally, but i ended up with a much better unit than the parts store one, and i supported a local business.
  9. tends to get quite dirty up in there so giving it a good flushing out periodically would be a good idea
  10. spent nearly 2 weeks trying to get air out of the other half's 06 Outback after changing the ps pump on it. apparently he managed to mangle the o-ring on the suction line without realizing it (until he took it apart again) so it was sucking in air as fast as it was purging it.
  11. oh, and to the OP - get a proper charger on that battery - do NOT rely on the alternator to recharge a dead battery. Alternators are not meant to charge dead batteries, they are meant to maintain a charge on a good battery. a bad battery can kill a good alternator, and a bad alternator can kill a good battery. you need both in good condition for things to work properly.
  12. had a similar problem with my 95 Legacy at one point.. was having charging problems.. alt would test as fine, in the car, at the parts stores - multiple times at different stores.... I got frustrated and yanked the darn thing out and took it in to a local starter/alternator rebuilder... when I put the alt up on the counter a couple of bits fell out (diodes?).. He was like, yup, you need an alternator rebuild.
  13. plus 1000 on what GD said... do NOT go with Gates or Felpro, unless you want to do all this work again and/or possible do major damage to the engines Gates kits used to be ok, but not anymore. Not for several years now
  14. LOL, I have a house with those old style locks (box that is screwed to the outside of the door) - no coins found to date.. but have found all sorts of other evidence of kids - drawing on walls in closets, small toys in heat registers, those sorts of things.
  15. they can only show stuff that actually gets reported. owner goes to a small independent shop instead of the dealer for routine work (or does it themselves), chances are said work will not be reported, therefore, no record. routine maintenance is not what I would necessarily be looking for on a carfax anyway. They are more useful for accident info, flood damage, that sort of thing.
  16. yup, my 2002 Forester calls for one of those smaller mini filters.. found the larger filter that I used to use on the 95 Legacy fits fine, so that is what I use
  17. ok, so i wasn't too far off with the headlight guess, LOL.. just needed to look further down
  18. ya'll need to just stop responding to this crap, dont click on the video, just flippin ignore it and let it go away. Absolutely NOT. the best way to deal with this is to completely ignore it. Don't follow the link, dont view the embedded video, dont do anything but ignore it. and to the OP - GD said it best, so I second his statement.
  19. here's a thought.. reach down and use the actual controls.. not a big fan of all this voice activated crap..
  20. awesome catch and fix, and thanks for coming back to update this. it may help someone else down the road
  21. have to agree with ido - that filter is more about keeping debris out of the fan than anything else. I live on a gravel road.. and even with all windows up and car closed up tight, the very fine dust that gets stirred up by passing traffic finds its way into the car. there is no way to stop it.
  22. Congrats, Nipper! Wish I could afford to do something like that, LOL
  23. 3x from the same shop?? I would seriously be finding another shop! and I would be playing hard ball NOW.. it is THEIR fault that the other thing got damaged in the first place, because they didn't do the job right the 1st two times.
