  1. Hi, need new tires don't want to send a fortune. Spoke to this guy at Mavis who said that Subaru's go throught tires at about twice the rate of front wheel or real wheel cars, so that at tire that is rated for 60,000 miles will last approx. 30,000 miles on a Subaru. This is the nature of the AWD. I had the Yokohama Geolander tires on my car and they are pretty much shot at 30,000. He suggests getting the Mirada tire but they are also made by Yokohama. Have suggestions? Thanks
  2. Hi, My Forester just turned over 30,000 miles. I kept going to the dealership since my car was new telling them that something felt not right with the front end of my car, like the AWD was not working properly especially on curves. I said when I turned the wheels to the extreme right I heard a rubbing noise. They checked the car on numerous occassions and did nothing. So for the first 14,000 miles I was driving this car with the sway bar links factory installed upside down according to the dealer. They were totally baffled that this could happen. They said they reversed the links and that it would not cause any problems in the future. The car still felt like it was not right. It started making rattling noises. Since then they have also replaced the front struts. The car is still making a knocking/rattling noises in the front left side whenever I go over any bumps and the front end feels more like a Chevy than like a Subaru it just feels loose. Now they said they are going to install new sway bar links. I ask them about the ball joints and they said they were fine. 3 of my tires have worn on the inside and look fine on the out side and middle. One of the tires looks prefect that's the right rear. Yes I have had these tires rotated every 7,000 miles. Subaru also did and alinment when they replaced the struts Also this winter the car started making loud tapping noise at start-up that would go awy after driving the car about 3-5 miles. The dealer said this was the infamous piston slap and that it would not hurt the performance or cause the car to need repair in the future but if I wanted they would replace the pistons. I am not sure if they are going to just replace the pistons or the short engine block. Help what shoud I do? This car has been noting but problems. Oh yes the clutch was replaced at 7,500 because of the known problem in first with the jutting. The brakes screech like crazy since it was new every time there is moisture in the air. Everytime I back up the car smells like rotten eggs the dealer said this is normal it is the catalytic converter. If you have ideas about any of these issues it would be much appreciated .
  3. Does anyone know what all of the issues are with the 2003 forester? I was told by the service manager that unless it is a safety issue Subaru does not have to inform the customer of known problems. I know about the jerky clutch in first gear on the standards( mine was replaced), the piston skirt slap (my dealer has ordered me new pistons etc.), what else do I have to look forward to with this car? It has been one problem after another. Also my brakes have been squeeking since I bought the car new everytime it gets humid or wet. It also has new front struts they were bad so dealer replaced them. The car is still making a rattling noise in the left front everytime I go over a bump. The hub caps are rusting. I can go on and on. When is a car considered a lemon and you can repace it? Thanks Flyingvisions
