what i would do personaly would be to to strip it completly replace all bearings plus the rings and any gasket or seal you can find give it the wash of its life and reassemble using all new gaskest, i would probably also get the bores honed. with the head i would get the valves reseated plus replace the stem seals, but thats just me and what i would recomend so yeah. Makes me kind of wish i had an engine of my own to strip and rebuild. PS thats a lot of realy great pics

DO the timing belt!! and also do the cam and crank seals. i would also recomend to have all the idler pullys replaced as they may be fine now but in 6000miles they may destroy themselves. At work we have had a few idlers let go just 12500KM after the Timing belt done even when the pullyes showed no signs of severe wear ie: Rough, noisy or stiff. so just my 2 cents. also after that many miles dont be suprised to find split cv boots or rack boots or broken engine or gearbox mounts plus numerouse other bushes

I do all the work on my brumby at work, we are "sponsered" by castrol, meaning as long as we use castrol products we get free drum pumps and storage tanks etc. so as you have probably guesed i use castrol GTX Protec in the engine, castrol multitrax in the gearbox and diffs. And as i work at a subaru dealership i always use genuine oll filters, brake fluid and coolant, the later of which are made by castrol belive it or not. PS i have never had a problem with my or any other engines using these products. hope that helps. PPS i also servise only by the book but once i get a diesle or turbo it will be twice as often as the book sais

New oil Filter on RX
Brumby Boy replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah some people are just heavy handed. Speaking from personal experience of corse. Try geting an oil filter of an RX 8 at its first oil change since it was put on by a robot in japan, pain in the rump roast spot plus tight as a basturd. I have also come across filters put on by other dealers that are tight as. my point is that some times you just have to persist. -

Hay im doing a complete rebuild on a Mazda MX 5 and it is a pain to get the timing covers off, so after reading this i got to thinking i should write something inside the covers what do you guys think and what should i write i was thinking someting along the lines of 'you poor poor son of a bi@#h" any ideas or sugestions?
-
Yeah i have been toying wit that idea for a few days now since i saw a Mazda RX 3 or 4 at the drags with a head light removed for airflow, and yeah the engine would be rebuild and strengthened to take the turbos. i was talking to one of the lads at work today and they said the EG33's had problems with coil packs dieing regulary and a some thing like 2 grand a pop needing six would get expensive but im sure that can be over come, surely by now someone would make something aftermarket.

As far as i know ALL of the EJ motors are interference meaning is your belt brakes: Enging out heads off and new valves. EA OHC ( EA 82) if there belt brakes just replace the belt and carry on driving. however i do believe that there is one and only one EJ 22 model that are non interference, i however have only ever seen one. Thats what i know hope it helps.

ea71 head gasket replacement....
Brumby Boy replied to Ross's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i have never seen a subaru head gasket changed in the car but then again thats the new ej models but just personaly if i was doing the head gasket on an ea ide probably pull the engine is so simple rather than ************ing around trying to get around the chassie. thats just my opinion -
They didnt bring them to oz plus im not so fused on them. If you want a look at what they should look like, the new brumbys that is, check out http://webmaster.beverleypaine.com/index.html then go to subarus an then to consept subarus
