Seems like there is conflicting information on internet on whether 95 Impreza 2.2’s were OBD I or 2? Bought a motor, ecu, and harness off a guy to use in a VW swap, but unfortunately the harness didn’t have all the elements required like relays. So now I need to source some remaining components. Is there a way to tell if a harness/motor is obd 1 besides the obvious is there a obd2 plug? The donor vehicle is no longer available.

I have new ngk plugs and wires on it. The old plugs didn’t look bad. Had slight bit of oil on the threads. I replaced the valve cover gaskets and spark plug seals as I head been meaning to anyway. I already had a spare coil that I was able to check with. Checked the fuel pressure and everything seems to be in spec.

99 Legacy 2.2 (phase II). I have noticed a slight stumble at idle when I have come to stops over the last several months. It would happen every 10 seconds when idling for extended periods (stop lights, etc). Seemed like more of a hiccup if anything. Has been running great besides that with no codes being thrown. Today I changed my oil and was letting it idle for an extended period and noticed that the idle was much rougher with the stumble much more frequent. Enough to throw misfire codes on all cylinders. Parts that are newer or I was able to swap for spares: plugs, wires, coil, O2 sensor, MAF sensor, knock sensor, injectors, fuel filter, and fuel pump. Tank is only a year or so old, was recently dropped and looked spotless. I had somewhat recent cleaned throttle body and IAC valve, but thought I would check they were still spotless. Smoked checked intake no apparent issues. Looking for advice or ideas on where to possibly look next. Thanks in advance. -Will

1999 Subaru Legacy 2.2 motor in a 1984 VW Vanagon. Struggling with a couple idle issues. No Check engine codes. The first is some hunting/surging on warm up. The second is after engine reaches operating temp it idles at normal rpms (750-ish) until it goes above ~1600 rpms on acceleration. After which motor hangs at ~1600 for idle. I can get idle back down to normal if I lug motor below 1300 or so rpms then it will drop back to “normal” idle. On next blip of throttle though above 1600 rpms it is back to hanging. If I restart car idle returns to normal until acceleration gets above ~1600 again. I have smoke tested engine. TPS voltage at idle is 0.48 volts warm or cold. Plenty of slack in throttle cable. Changed out MAF for OEM. New OEM ECT sensor. Cleaned throttle body assembly and tried new IAC valve. Cleaned injectors and changed out O-rings. Newer O2 sensors, plugs, and coils. Also have a spare ECU which shows same issues Any suggestions on what or where I should check next. Open to anything at this point.

Hello I have a Phase 2 EJ22 from a 99 Legacy swapped into my 1984 VW Vanagon. Motor has been running great but just noticed recently after driving for a bit the idle has started to stick fairly high (1600 rpm) and doesn’t drop after throttle tap. No issues on startup with idle, seems to going through it’s higher idle “search” then settles around 700 rpms. If I turn off car and start back up idle goes back to normal. Checked to make sure I had proper slack in throttle cable. Cleaned IACV and throttle plate. No Cruise hooked up (read this as possible issue on other posts). Every so often (pretty rare) it will sorta stall immediately on crank but then starts right back up, haven’t thought much about it to this point. Only CEL code is associated with O2 sensor heater circuit (have changed sensor with OEM and seem to get signal from harness still throws code though). Motor runs great otherwise. Looking for suggestions on where to check next? Thanks in advance.
