  1. Not a big problem on the drivers side. You are correct, remove the oil filler tube, 2 screws, may want to put a rag in the opening until you replace the tube. You can then get to the valve cover. Others remove the the battery also for a little more room. monk50
  2. Also used a universal 02 front and rear. With a good solder job I have had no problems with 65,000 miles since and now have 201000 miles on 95 legacy. Monk50
  3. With the price of gas continuing its upward climb it has me wondering about the gas mileage gain putting the fuse in for 2-wheel operation. I have a 95 subaru legacy with 200k on the clock and a 05 LL bean outback with 50k. Questions 1. What is the experience out there of MPG gain in this? 2. More important does this cause damage? If so what kind and where? 3. Really would like to have some knowledgeable individuals response as to your professional experience. Your responses appreciated as to whether this is a good idea. Thanks Monk in NC
  4. Follow up. I tightened the steering pump belt, about 2 complete adjustment turns and the squealing is gone, at least for now. Temperature this a.m. approx 35 degrees, low enough to previously cause the squeal and alas, no more pig squeal. I tightened a little more than what I had previously considered as the proper torque. monk50
  5. I did tighten the power steering belt. I appears to have fixed the squeal. Guess the belt relaxed after the inital installation and thus the squeal. I will give it a longer test and also with colder weather. Thanks to the USMB for suggestions. My sub has 200K miles. monk
  6. My 95 legacy is doing the same. Cold ,igh pitch squeal on start up, then goes away. Seems to also squeal more at idle, as i increase rpm it stops. I justs tightened the power steering belt and when cold will see if it helps. Would appreciate knowing what your fix is when you figure out the problem. I replaced the belts and up until then it did not squeal, so I am hoping that tightening works. Thanks monk
  7. No kidding!!! Very unlike subaru and especially for an LL Bean at the price they command. Thanks
  8. Do you just drill holes in the plastic panel? It would not seem strong enough to hold much at all drilled into the plastic panel. Thanks for the help
  9. Just purchased a cargo net for the 05 LL Bean and unlike most other things purchased the instructions seem poor or they the dealer gave me the wrong net set up. According to the instruction there should be a pre-located spot to drill holes to screw in two plastic headed bolts to attach the top of the cargo net. The lower section connects to the cargo tie downs on the floor, but...... I can not locate the places to drill for the top screw in bolts. Any help? Did I get the wrong net? Has anyone done this for the 05 LL Bean? Would appreciate wisdom of the board as I am not located close to a dealer. monk50 in NC 05 LL bean outback 95 legacy LS
  10. I have an 05 outback with the H6. So far no problems and an excellent car. I drive up into the mountains of NC and like the power and torque of the 6 cylinder. So far the only disappointment is that the car at times seems to "search" for the right gear. It seems to change gears a little too often. Other than that I love the car. I do not have experience with the 2.5 or turbo only with a 95 legacy. monk50
  11. Have 05 LL bean outback with 27000 miles on the clock. Been using midgrade without any problems to date. monk50
  12. Did same thing on my 95 legacy. The thermostat did not work well, did leak, and finally purchased OEM thermostat. Problem solved. Did same thing with spark plugs. Purched nice Bosche platimum plugs and the car skipped. Went back to OEM plugs, problem solved. Have discovered that Subaru knows what they are doing and the engines are tuned to the specific parts. From now on I will put in OEM parts period Monk50
  13. In need of a new set of tires for the 05 LL Bean Car has 25000 miles and the right rear tire is worn out. The front tires seem to have about half tread left but considering buying all 4 and getting an alignment based on other threads I have seen here. Seeking recommendations. Wife's car, mosty easily driven with occasional trips to the mountains of NC. Main concern is mileage and of course safety. What do you recommend? Where to buy Best price. Other advice Thanks in advance for your help. The 6 cylinder has performed very well and pleased with the purchase. No problems encountered at this point. MPG has been around 20 intown and 25 trip. Used it to pull a trailer one time from the coast and had plenty of power and control. OVer all I rate this an excellent car. The only problems is the alignment and it seems to search for the proper gear a little too soon and too oftern. monk50 in NC Any experience buying from the Ebay used tire companies? They seem to have tires on sale and at somewhat reasonable prices.
  14. I have 05 outback 95 legacy 59 A porsche cabroilet (flat 4) 62 B Super 90 coupe Porsche (flat 4) Had 70 VK Karman Ghia. You may be on to something, after all I still think the world is flat. Monk in NC
  15. Any experience out there with the new 6 cylinder subaru's How difficult to do your own engine work like change plugs etc? I have a 2005 sub outback ll bean model. Thanks monk
  16. I have found it best to always use the sub parts. If you can change the belts you could also change out the pump. While in there most people also renew the cam seals the "o" ring behind the oil pump and the crank seal also. These items are little extra while at that stage of the game. You will also want to change your thermostat and definitely use the sub part for that. I made all those changes when I switched to synthetic oil on my 95 legacy to prevent oil leaks. Good luck. monk
  17. I agree with the Amsoil. All vehicles running the amsoil with excellent results. 95 sub 05 OB 02 BMW motorcycle 05 yamaha FJR.
  18. My 95 Legacy is fast approaching the 200K mark. I have 183,000 miles and it runs terrific. Using Amsoil synthetic and it is very smooth gets 24 mpg around town and 27 on trips. I did put 16 inch WRX tires and wheels on. Question: Wonder why Subaru does not follow Mercedes with their recognition program for high miles? Mercedes sends you a badge, certificate and stick pin at achieved intervals. Great advertising for them and a source of pride for owners. moderators any thoughts?
  19. What about the driver's side? On both my subs, there seems to be a leak only on the passenger's side, but just curious about the other side. monk Thanks for the quick response.
  20. I have a 95 legacy LS. I have replaced the seals on the front crank and front cam seals. Is there a seal or an "o" ring that can/should be replaced on the rear of the cams? How difficult is it to change? Suggestions. Reason, there seems to be an oil leak that may be coming from that area. Not it is not the valve cover or valve cover bolt seals/ they have been replaced. Thanks for the information gerald in NC
