Idle Hands are the Devil's Playground

I'm trying to give it away! But I suppose "FREE!" in bright pink on the rear window might help. -
Hmmmm, should I get another one?
SakoTGrimes posted a topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
OK, all things considered, the last thing in the world I need is another darn Subaru. However, I have a Subaru addiction and I am a realist: I will not be kicking the habit anytime soon. Anyways, every time I have Jonsie's front end jacked up I think "Man, a lifted Gen-1 Brat would look thuper!" But I don't want to ruin my "baby" so forget about that. Look at these pics: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70631&highlight=seven+brats+white+city That's the dude who I bought my Brat from's other Brats. The white one is pretty trashed. I was thinking I could maybe, buy it for like $200, beat out the mash in ghetto style with a hammer, swap in an EA81 and d/r and wheel without worry about ruining anything resembling a "nice" car. Just a thought. Maybe after I pay off my personal debts. -
Woodcutter's Pass! 25 miles, at least 15 in low range
SakoTGrimes replied to Rooinater's topic in Off Road
Ha ha! I saw the first picture and at first thought "Ugh, not another Subaru-less Toyota only offroad picture thread!" Then I realized that Toyota looking thing on the right was a Subaru. Derrrrr! I like the setup you have going on with the diff to keep the axles straight. I'm guessing that helps them last longer? What is it, a spacer between the diff and body? It sure is a sweet looking wagon! -
According to biodieselers, ethanol is also the cure for methanol poisoning. Rubbing alcohol contains about 5% methanol to discourage people from using it as cheap booze, but wouldn't the 65% ethanol completely neutralize it?

Can I just swap in a speedo and tach from a later Gen-1 Brat into my 78, solving my no lights in the dash and lack of tachometer problems at once?

Remember my wagon?

First off.... boys will be boys. We all gotta make (and survive) some dumb decisions earlier in life. That's how we learn, right? Crazy, chill. If you really weren't at fault, then that's all that matters. Glad you're OK man. You might not want to hang out with the chronic WRX totaler though. PS, a carb EA82 3AT could do the same........ it would just need 8x the distance to get up to speed:lol: -
Toyota 20R into a 1987 Subaru Wagon
SakoTGrimes replied to The Beast I Drive's topic in Subaru Transplants
Why would be a good question... the Toyota engine will be heavier and probably thirstier. On the other hand you won't need to pull the engine to do headgaskets, and they're just as reliable. I think the 20R makes about the same HP, probably a little more torque. If I were to put in a Toyota plant, I'd just use a good old solid axle RWD/PT4WD setup. Not many people here have had much success hooking up Subaru transmissions to other engines. -
Come git yer free wagon!
SakoTGrimes replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can wait. It will be missing a few more parts but nothing major. -

No, it's cheap. I just don't feel like doing much to it. But, if you have some funds I'm willing to work with you to get it gone. -
82 wagon, no engine, no transaxle, FREE. Tired of looking at it.

You really should. There are still people in this world who taske pride in their work and build a dang good product. Could EA81 gaskets be modified to fit? I always thought the EA71 and EA81 were nearly identical except for the pistons.

Buying another ea81... 3AT question
SakoTGrimes replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It sounds like a really simple problem. You know how on a lot of older cars with column shift automatics you need to push it further than you should to get it in gear, like it's reading halfway between 2 and D? I bet it's just some sloppy linkage going on down there. -
This little hill is directly behind my work, and it's very bumpy, I even high centered my 68 Jeep a few years ago. The other side is so steep that even a huge truck with giganto tires might roll (so I go nowhere near it) See Maria's hands? heheh

Possible ignition problem with 78 Brat
SakoTGrimes replied to Subieguy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Same happened to me, though the no dash lights came first. Check all your electrical wiring (I know, fun) for hot wires grounding out. -
Tryin to get ahold of him, his PM box is full

When did I get an SVX? I didn't, my coworker (and of next week I'll be reporting to her) says her SVX loses power and stalls if she doesn't let it warm up for 3 minutes. She also told me that some guy who works at her store said he used to work for Subaru and the reason the car stalls is because the turbo needs to warm up. I told her that there was probably a good reason he didn't work for Subaru anymore. So anyway, what might cause an SVX to stall? It's in pretty good shape otherwise and got a new transmission recently. I like my job my Brat, one EA82 wagon, one SVX, one (now departed) FT4WD turbowagon, one dude who wants a Brat like mine.... it's a happy Subaru place.
