  1. Good to know. I actually replaced all of the shifter linkage shortly after I bought the car in April 2021 so the shifter is still nice and tight. But I will certainly look into the trans mount and inspect the one on the vehicle. Thank you.

  3. I'm about to do the clutch in my 96 legacy. Anyone know what else might be a good idea to replace while I'm in there? Never done a clutch before but doesn't seem too bad. The underside of the car is abit rusty. Im alittle worried I may end up breaking alot of things to get the transmission out. I'd like to have everything I need before I start turning wrenches. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks to all with helpful input.
  4. I was able to undo everything needed to remove the lateral link but that bolt was stuck into to bushing collar. I tried EVERYTHING. Even a long piece of rebar and an 8lb hammer pounding it with all my might. It looked as though it was going to bend the bracket so I stopped. My plan now is to order the new bolt and washer, cut it off with a cutoff wheel or torches then replace the whole shebang. I'll just get the alignment as close as possible and have a mechanic get it perfect. I think I'll go and replace the sway bar links as well while I'm there.

  7. Went to replace the rear lateral arm ( or atleast that's what I think it's called could be stabilizer bar?) on my 2014 subaru forester due to a mangled bushing and worn ball joint. Come to find out there is an alignment bolt and washer that adjusts the alignment on the rear wheel. I broke the nut free but the bolt was stuck in the bushing. The only solution I saw was to cut the bolt and replace it. The only issue is that I can't find one anywhere! Does anyone know the proper name or part number for the bolt and washer? It would help me greatly. I had to toss the lateral arm back together since I could not find the proper bolt and now my alignment is way off. My next solution involves calling the dealer and trying to describe to them the part I m looking for... the bolt has a 22mm head and the nut is 19mm. I can post a pic if needed. Thanks ahead of time for any info giving, it's greatly appreciated.
  8. I'm considering purchasing a 2012 - 2014 wrx as a daily driver. I have not known anyone personally who drives one daily. I'm wondering if anyone could fill me in on what to expect? I just want a fun daily commuter that I can still take the family out in on the weekends, nothing heavily modded or beat on just a well taken care of wrx as close to stock as I can find. I baby my vehicles and am willing to turn wrenches when need be and perform regular maintenance reliably. Any insight on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks
  9. Really good info with the knock sensor, I'll have to look into that. And I didn't know that about the altinators, starters and fuel pumps! That's insane. That's alot of travel my man. I certainly don't put that kind of mileage on. I can see why you try to stick to oem!

  11. I think that there are plenty aftermarket parts that are quality made. There are bad too. Can't beat oem but I've had plenty of good aftermarket parts that lasted quite awhile. There are several brands that make "heavy duty" cv shafts rated for more lift than the 2.5 inches the original axles are rated for. That's not what I was trying to discuss on this thread. Everyone has their own opinions. The rest of the info given was very helpful, thank you. All the parts I replaced had failed for one reason or another. If it's not broken don't fix it. That's pretty common knowledge. Preventative care is important as well, as long as its appropriate. I'll let yall know how long my "heavy duty" axles last. Side by side the axles look high quality and well made. More suited for lifted subi's. Who knows, mabey they will fail tomorrow and prove me wrong. Live and learn. But if there's a possibility they handle the added load better then its worth rolling the dice.
  12. Rite now im just running my snow treads, Goodyear winter commands nothing special... about to get some bfgoodrich all terrains fo the year. I'd really like to go up a size but not sure if I can make it happen this year. I may just see what I'm capable of this year and then decide if I want to do the transmission/differential swap. I have some pretty big plans for it. Just gotta keep chipping away. I've got an 03 forester but that's more of a family car lol mabey one day I'll get to modifying that as well. Rite now I just want to see what kind of a monster I can turn the 96 into lol
  13. It's a 96 legacy L sedan 5spd. I've installed 05 forester struts and am riding on 205/65/16's. It sits up pretty good. I think if I go higher I'll need to unbolt my sway bars. Unless I can squeeze a bigger tire under it. I drive it daily so I want to avoid that rite now. Definitely going to install some skid plates when possible. Next year it won't be my daily just a toy. That 95 wagon looks real nice! I'm interested in the auto lockers. And I'd like to do a transmission swap to really be able to crawl better. Just a lower 1st and 2nd gear would come in handy I think.   14. Good to know. Honestly I'm not sure how deep I'll be going but I'll probably be following some buddies in their lifted jeeps and they get burried ha I just want to be prepared for anything. Last thing I want is to be the guy that needs to get pulled out every time we go offroading. I definitely have the least ground clearance out of the group but I'm pretty limited with the wheel wells not being able to support larger tires. I have limited offroading experience and this is my first offroading build but I'm a subaru die hard and want to combined my liking for subi's and offroading. I don't know anyone else personally who runs Subarus offroading but I know they are very capable vehicles and people tend to underestimate them.
  15. Thanks for the insight. I gotta find away to get in that deep and still pull threw ha there's some deep holes out this way and I'd like to push my legacy to its limits. I have alot of upgrading to do obviously. One thing at a time I guess. Hopefully I can still keep it road legal but if not then no biggie, I'll run it anyway!
  16. I'm looking to do some offroading with my 96 legacy L. Wondering if anyone has experience with different types of snorkel kits? Is it an easy install? What brands should I avoid? What should I be looking for? The last thing I want is to get a kit and have it not work properly and flood the engine despite the upgrade. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. I can relate. I'm no expert, only know from what little experience I have and what I've researched. It's unfortunate that there is so much contradictory info out there about these awesome engines. I'm here to learn and help anyone that might need info I have.   18. I agree. My 96 is 100% non interference and single port. It's kind of a run around year between all kinds of changes. 97 I believe began the single port interference ej22 when they redesigned the pistons and eliminated the head space for the valves.
  19. I'm not sure about the 95 but my 96 ej22 has a single port exhaust? Not sure how else to identify phase 1 form phase 2 but I've been told that 96 was a transition year so it hit or miss on the single port or dual port heads. I'm not entirely sure how accurate that is though? If someone could expand on that it would be appreciated? All I know is that it's an ej22e non interference and I love it. It's my daily and for what I'm doing with it, it has enough power.
  20. I have a 96 legacy 5spd with a ej22e. Not sure if it's the same exact engine but it's gotta be very similar. I bought it with about 150k on it and it started abit rough. With unknown maintenance record I decided to go rite threw the easy stuff and it made a world of a difference. I did the air filter, fuel filter, oil change and filter, spark plugs and wires and new drive belts along with the tensioner assembly. All pretty cheap and easy stuff just a YouTube video away and only basic tools and knowledge needed. I think in total it costed me like $250 and I literally haven't had any issues with it after doing those easy things. Also I used the NGK plugs and wires, simply because I've used them on several other vehicles and trust them. It's also a good idea to look for any fluid leaking anywhere it can possibly leak from, transmission, differential, engine ext. And it's worth taking a peak at the sway bar links, ball joints, and cv shaft boots just to know the current condition. After sitting that long it could cause the rubber boots to dry out and before long crack and fail...
  21. Interesting? I'll have to look for some examples and really study my setup next time I'm under it. Sounds like I should be on the hunt for a donor with a phase 2 box and five bolt dif and front axles to match. Thanks my man, that helps alot.
  22. Thanks for the insight. That's exactly the kind of info I was hoping to get! This spring I'm hoping to find a donor car so that definitely points me in the right direction. Transmissions and difs are about the only thing I haven't had to mess with since owning subarus. Thanks buddy
  23. I have a lifted 96 legacy l sedan and I'm looking to install a forester transmission and differential. My question is will any year forester transmission not bolt up? Or will just about any year up to 08 go in without any issue? My legacy has a ej22e.
  24. I should have said strut assembly, my bad. The springs and hardware were all brand new. But mabey you are right and I need a good quality spring. Still going to upgrade the sway bar and go from there. The links need to be renewed anyway and the bushings don't look much better, might as well upgrade.
