  1. I ain't buyin it. Porsche most dependable sports car? I know I could depend on spending 500-1500 hundred dollars every time it went to the shop. OK, I vented. As others have said, how does JD do their survey? Where can we see the details? On my second Outback, not ONE problem with the first one and sold it because I had a windfall of money and liked the new ones....
  2. OK, well..I tried the cruise control on interstate 5, up hills and down and it worked just as well as my last outback, no problems and smooth. Did I just get lucky?
  3. 05 OBW , auto, I haven't had that problem, but will look for some long steep parts of the interstate here in Oregon and see what happens, Eric
  4. DUDE! , do NOT cover door sides of the seats in the new 2005 Outback. Tis where the side air bags are, it would be worse than not holding gas at the relatives family gathering!
  5. I haven't noticed any problems with having to hold my leg or foot in an uncomfortable position while pressing the gas pedal. The power of suggestion means I will notice it tomorrow
  6. I have just over 1000 miles on my 05 OBW. It does feel different than the 01 that I had. Steering has less of the road feel, car has a quieter and smoother ride. No probles (knock on plastic), I like the milage readout and the redsesigned interior. The rearview mirror is large and has a homelink/compas/self-dimming unit. Ground clearance is maybe 2" more than the 01. I really liked my 01, drove the snot out of it and had a windfall of money, so traded it in on a new one. I would probably by the Legacy wagon if I had it to do over. I am getting used to the differences, and yes , it feels like a small SUV Maybe I should put a sticker on it that says "my other car is a Prius" Wifes car.
  7. there is a sequence in the manual on how to dissable the alarm on the car, not on how to turn off the panic button. The service dept. is out to lunch on this also. Is it possible that Subaru overlooked the possibility that some of us do not want a panic button?
  8. thanks for the reply. I don't wear belts, use pockets, and yes, I want to stop the panic button on the fob from working forever.
  9. turn the #@$^ thing off. I suppose if you own a new Subaru you are only to have money in your pockets, not such things as nuts and bolts and other small items. Thee small items end up touching the panic button and .. there goes the alarm. The manual has no refrence on how to turn it off, the salesman know how to take my money but not much else, anyone know how to TURN IT OFF? (yes, perhaps black electricians tape would work, but I would like the real fix) Eric
  10. The B9 looks like a K9. Or is it the Edsel of the 21st century? ( sorry to dog owners about the K9 comment) And I am saddened to see the production of another SUV rather than a Hybrid-Subaru. The B9 just may go the way of the Baja.
  11. Yes, it has jump seats..do you want them? I don't...if I get it that is. The retired school teacher lady who ownes it is thinking about the price of the vehicle.
  12. that the original owner has and may sell for somewhere over $2000. It has 88 thousand miles on it, the body is near perfect and it sounds nice. Interior needs work and she is a smoker. I havent worked on a car since , well, many years, but can get back into it. My question is..what should I look for and listen for when I make her an offer, that is, drive the vehicle. Can I get parts? Is a Brat in good condition worth $2000?
  13. The Outback is a nasty drive?? On my second Outback and have been impressed with the way they handle and I have had two Audi's (89 and 95 quattros) and a 1980 Porsche. I am NOT saying the Outback handles like a Porsche, but it is not far behind the Audi's we had, and beats them on all other fronts; price and reliability and maintance costs (after the free service at Audi runs out, a window switch was $450 in 1993, installed) If you are into status, the Audi may be for you, but I am sticking with the Outback. My 05' was more $ than a 05 Legacy but standard features on the Outback that the Legacy did not come with were, from memory, heated seats, self dimming rear view mirror, Home Link, bigger tires, full auto drivers seat, a probably a few things I missed. Blue 05 Outback
  14. unlike Pavalovs(sp) dog, I do not need a bell to remind me to wear my seat belt, and yes, wearing a seat belt saved my life once..I always wear one. Back to that chime that won't quite.......
  15. Subaru had a recall on the first 5000 05's produced starting in June of 2004. The problem was with the packing or folding of the side air bags in installation. They have taken care of the problem. So, unless your Outback was one of the first 5000 made, don't worry.
  16. behind the dog, back seat...it's the damn chime thats the problem even without the dog. OK I am obsessing and going out to try the fix for the 5th time.
  17. OK, I am going to try it again. Hope it works for the passanger seat as my beagle sits there and the d!#@ chime keeps him from catching his 20 hours of sleep. bluesharpfor30yrseric
  18. On my second Outback. The 2001 I traded in on a new Outback 2.5i was in great shape, not one problem in 4 years, no oil leaks and i used it off road a lot (hobby related) So why did I get rid of it? A very nice surprise, unexpected money came my way, so why not? I have had two AWD cars in the past..an 89 Audi 90 and a 95 Audi 90s. Great driving, but the Subaru is not very far behind in handeling and WAY ahead in maintance costs. I think Audis are about status and think a Subaru is the sensible car to get. Now, if they would only come out with a hybrid Subaru..my high speed days are behind me. Eric
  19. The chime is driving me crazy. I tried the " turn key to start position, then wait for chime, then inset and take out of buckle 20 times" I read these instructions on another Subaru message board, but can NOT get it to work. Advice? Heard of another way? Thinking of using my wire cutters soon..... Eric
  20. Looking for a skid plate for a new Outback. IPD says they are working on one, I like their products. Anyone know of another mfg. for such an animal? Eric
  21. Compared to my 01 Outback, the new outback feels heavier and slugish in the steering wheel on sharp turns..anyone notice this or should I drive it through the showroom window..just kidding.
