  1. Nice work. Love the rear coilovers.
  2. Update: Well I've been very busy trying to figure out my strut options. I came up with some Volkswagen FK coilovers. It gives me the adjustablity I need to go from street to snow tires, and the rear is already adjustable so we're good to go. I'm just waiting for a couple of parts to show up. I also have got all the brakes sorted and the wheel wells painted with rubber sealant. Here are a couple of photos of the coilovers with the ea81 top hats: Here is the hatch at the lowest point (I haven't got the parts to raise it up yet):
  3. Thanks a ton for the information.
  4. I haven't really figured that out yet. I'm going to try and see if I can just use some EJ axles. I know they are a bit longer, but only by an inch or so. This whole project has been a "see if it works" sort of thing.
  5. nope, but I paid next to nothing for them.
  6. I have a 1982 GL Hatch with a perfect dash.
  7. Well I got the drivers side finished. Did I mention I really hate doing wheel bearings. Even with the right tools it's a pain in the rear. Here are some photos of the progress so far: Old and new (used) parts. Hole: WRX strut & spring with EA81 top hat: Painting the Legacy hubs & dust plates: Here's everything put together on the hatch: Then, BAM!!! WRX brakes!
  8. Struts and springs not going so well. They are much wider then the EA81 springs so it's a very tight fit in the strut tower. I may have to grind a bit out and reweld a chunk further out to allow space for the EJ springs. I did get the EA81 top hats to fit the EJ Struts. I'm going to do a bit of grinding and pounding tonight and see if I can't get them to fit.
  9. Well I'm underway. I've got the 5-lug & wrx rims on the back and I have the front completely dissembled. I also have the new cross member and p/s rack mounted. Now I'm working on getting new wheel bearings in the hubs & mounting the WRX struts and springs. I've been taking a ton of photos and I'll post them all when I'm finised.
  10. I'll be going with one other buddy. so me +1
  11. looks good, thanks.
  12. Holly Crap, I haven't read my thread in a couple days. What a soap opera. I'm not touching this one. I've learned my lesson a long time ago. So if we could get back on point that would be great. So not much to update on the car yet. I'm trying to raise some money to buy some wheel bearings then the front end is ready to go. I'll be sure to post tons of photos and my & matt's many, many, many (did I mention many), trials and tribulations with this huge task. Anyone can post on here as long as it's related to the thread topic. "That all I have to say about that" -Gump
  13. The front bolts are on the struts. You'll see 2 bolts at the bottom of each strut. Tighten them up and it will lift the front end. Yes, mine has a 3rd eye headlight on it. (this is an old photo of it)
  14. how long did it take you? (putting the motor and everything on it wasn't that long. You could do it in a weekend. It's the wiring that kills) and how much of a P.I.T.A. was it? (the wiring was a huge P.I.T.A. for me) haha, I'll trade my legacy and 1600 for your finished project, lol. oh, how fast does it go? (Not as fast as I thought, but it's way better then the 1800) and does it still perform as good with the awd trans? (not sure yet, I don't have it installed yet. I'll let everyone know)
  15. this one: 1982 Subaru Hatch (EJ22 Powered): http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2954641
  16. Check the link below for more photos of the entire car and the build up til now.
  17. I decided not to rebuild the steering rack, but I did rebuild the pump. I just painted the rack and called it good. It seemed like a bigger P.I.T.A. then I wanted to deal with right now so I hope it works out. As far as the pump goes I'm using the EJ pump so getting rebuild part wasn't that hard. It was like $30 from Subaru and I had to go to a local bearing shop to get the bearing. Subaru doesn't just sell the bearing, they want to sell you the whole rod with the bearing and that's like $130. I paid like $5 for the bearing at the shop.
  18. Oh I think you could. I do have the 4WD ones available now too. Here is a link to the ebay store listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140323730160&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT -earl
  19. Going with a Legacy transmission ('cause it's available). We haven't got as far as the strut towers yet. We'll try and just drill a 3rd hole, but it that isn't going to work we might have to cut out the top and custom make a new piece that matt will weld in. We'll see once we get to that.
  20. Who, me?
  21. Okay so XT6 steering knuckles don't fit WRX brakes. So I went and got some legacy knuckles and everything fit great. (we'll see when I bolt it up to the car). If anyone's interested in buying some XT6 front end stuff let me know. I've got everything, but the passendger front caliper. I've got the entire front end assembled in the garage now. Legacy knuckles, WRX calipers, WRX cross drilled/slotted rotors, EA81 (power steering) cross member, EA81 tie rods & ends, WRX brake pads, KYB struts with WRX (maybe STI) Springs, EA81 lower control arms with urithane bushings and everything's new or rebuilt. I'm just waiting on some wheel bearings then I'll paint and reassemble everything. At that time I'll snap a few shots of the set-up and post them up. Oh, I can't wait til I've got this thing together. It should be a real blast to drive.
  22. They were for a VW GTI. I just had to cut a bit off of the outside lip and get some bigger bolts, but I'm hoping it's worth it. I'll through some photos up once I've got my EJ knuckle installed.
  23. I've been building my front end for a while now. I've got EA81 control arms with polyurethane bushings, EA81 power steering cross member with a matching power steering rack, (now) EJ steering knuckles with '02 WRX calipers, WRX struts/springs & crossdrilled/slotted rotors. Everything is new (tie rods, tie rod ends, ball joint, wheel bearings, brake pads & rubber steering coupler). I've also stripped and repainted everything with hammer paint. Lots of work, but I hope it will be worth it in the end.
  24. I'll be using EJ axles anyways 'cause I'm converting to AWD. So I guess I don't need anything from the XT6 for the front. I'll go pull some EJ knuckles this weekend and try them on.
