So what I basically did was I put little filters on all four spots where the hoses connected to the bottom of the stock intake tube, then just got a 6” straight pipe and some fittings to relocate the intake to where the spare tire was. Well I put it all together and what’s happening is I’ll start it up and it’ll run fine for about 5-10 seconds then die. Any ideas on why, and how can I make this work?

Thanks, for the information. This is very helpful. One thing I was thinking of doing is getting one of those adaptors that goes between the oil pump and the oil filter. I think it's meant for an oil cooler, but I think I might be able to get it in the right thread and put in the stock pressure sensor. We'll see after I do a bit more research on it. What did you do about your temperature gauge?

Update: So I got my transmission to shift out of 4WD High. I took out the drive line and all the shift linkage in preparation to remove the transmission then I thought for some crazy reason, why not try and rotate the 4WD lever 180 degrees. Sure enough that worked, I’m not sure why but for some reason the leaver got installed upside down so it had to be rotated to fit in the car and the transmission just happened to be in 4WD high at the time (the only setting that will allow a 180 spin). I guess this locks the transmission in 4WD high and I’m not sure why. Oh well, it’s fixed now and back together. Next up: I’m going to try and relocate the intake where the spare tire use to be. I still have a small bit of wiring to do like, fixing the headlights, hooking the thermal switch up to the EJ harness, hooking up the temperature and oil pressure gauges, Stereo, transmission wiring and the Toyota inclimeter. After I finish that and change the oil then I can take it down and get the exhaust made. Weeeee!

Update: Got the foglights hooked up and working. Hood pins are installed. I'm going to see about pulling my transmission this weekend and try to get it out of 4WD.

battery relocation
Pooparu replied to mountaingoatgruff's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got it out of a late 80's Chevy beretta. I grounded to the rear of the car and ran my positive cable up to my kill switch, then ran 2 wirers off from there and one to the starter and one to the fusible links. My power output runs off of my fusible links. It sounds like you have yours all planned out now. There’s probably 20 different ways to do the same job. -
what kind of turbos did ea82Ts have stock
Pooparu replied to spokanesoob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think the only year the 323 GTX came to the U.S. was 1988. GTX (awd turbo) I had one several years ago, but the details are cloudy. The turbo was good, it's just that the motor leaked bad, it ran hot, and finding parts was very hard. Here's a photo. (just so you know the stipe was already painted on when I got it.) -

That's what I'm running. It works great. -

battery relocation

I have an '82 hatch that I relocated the battery in. I used a cheap $15 battery box from DIP and a red top Optima battery. I also added a kill switch, just in case I needed to cut power from the battery it would be easier then opening up the box and unhooking the cable. Another thing I did was to add a power output in the engine bay in case I need power for fog lights, stereo or whatever. Here are a few photos of the finished project. Let me know if you have any questions about it. -
I'm still looking for them, but just as soon as I find them I'll let you know.

I got them here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/82-89-SUBARU-GL-ALLIANCE-HALO-ANGEL-EYE-HID-HEADLIGHTS_W0QQitemZ300223340549QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item300223340549& I also have my stock ones that I'll sell you for $8.00 each +shipping.

No, they are not originally off a Subaru. The are JDM Datsun knock off fender mirrors from ebay.
-
I think I have the old door mirror hanging around somewhere if you want them.
-
From what I know the engine crossmember is the same but the transmission crossmember is different for sure. I swapped an ea81 & transmission into my '78 brat and had to fab up a transmission crossmember.

Update: Lights and Brush Guard are installed. I just need to wire them up now. I think this thing is finally taking shape.
-
nope, just cheap plastic, but powered would be cool.

Update: Got the JDM fender mirror mounted today (for that Swingback look). I know I might get mixed feelings on these, but I’m a big fan of old Japanese cars and love the fender mirror look. I also got all the paint removed off of the brush guard, drilled holes for the fog lights and repainted. I’m going to let the pain cure for a day or so before I mount it up. I did test fit it before I started so I know it’ll fit. I tell ya, the paint removal wasn’t easy but it was worth it. I also got my skid plate painted with some hammer finish stuff (about 10 coats).

wanting to do something different to my Brumby
Pooparu replied to kiwi subbie's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
This is the only boxer 6 I've seen in a brat. I think it's from and XT6. From what I can tell you might have to relocate the radiator. Images found on subarubrat.com -
That's the plan. I have a list of stuff on my wall of things to be done before 8-15-08 and I've been able to cross one or two of them off just about every weekend.

Update: So as you know I’ve mounted the front bumper and now I have the rear speakers installed with all the covers back in place. So the rear is finished up now. Oh ya, I also installed my washer fluid bottle too. Every little thing counts. Next up: I’m going to try and tackle the push bar. It needs to be stripped, drilled, painted and installed. I’m now sure if I can afford powder coating or not. If not maybe I'll use some nice bed liner in a can. Then I can mount my lights; run all of my wires, relays and switches for that. Finally I can put my interior back together. Stuff I still need to do: Pull transmission out so that I can try and get the thing out of 4WD if not I’ll have to get another one, Install the stereo, mount the mirrors, fix the headlights, check and see if the cooling fan will kick on, hookup my oil pressure and temperature gauges, tint the windows, weld a new hood hinge into place, re-install the front wipers and piece under the wipers, relocate the intake filter, mount new hood pins, then work out any other bugs from there. Far future: 5 lug swap so I can mount my 2.5gt wheels and tires, fuel surge tank, EJ25 engine block, AWD conversion, LSD rear end, and whatever else I can come up with.

Front bumper installed. I recessed it a little so that it looks a bit stubbier.

This is the only other justy turbo I've ever seen.
