  1. IN!!!! When is this cookout? I miss you guys (and Tommys beer ). I "should" have the EA81 for my coupe back together and in sometime this week. I just pulled the messed up one apart. Pictures to follow in another thread somewhere.
  2. http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=90024&highlight=weber I bought from Overseas. Great customer service and comparable prices to Ebay. If you do get the weber i highly recommend the roller bearing kit he offers for the main shaft. It improves the movement of the carb greatly and its cheap.
  3. Wait...theres an aftermarket for old school soobs? But seriously...there is none. Its good you kept the sliders. Thats going to make your life a lot easier. You will most likely be making some sort of adapter bracket between the seats and the slides.
  4. If you dont have the heads and cam to go along with the intake then its virtually all for show. The ONLY way that intake would be good on a normal set of ea81 heads is if someone ported them out and shaved em and gave them a killer valve job. Then...maybe it would be worth it. If you just have the normal EA81 heads your better off just slapping a weber on it and calling it a day. I kno not fancy and exotic but without the full package its pointless.
  5. If the motor is out it might be a good idea to do the front crank seal (behind the crank pulley) as well as the oil pump gasket. Just make sure when your pulling the oil pump out not to put any side to side load on it otherwise you might snap it off. Otherwise your list looks about like mine. If you dont/cant go oem on the exhaust gaskets for whatever reason you can get good ones from napa. You have to ask them to look exhaust gaskets for an 85 1.8L subaru turbo car and you will get the high quality gaskets your looking for from the dealer too...might even be cheaper from napa too.
  6. Yes they do. You can bolt a dual carb intake on a normal EA81 head just fine. But you wont really be gaining much if anything by doing it. The dual carb motor had reversed valves (intake and exhaust valves switched positions) as well as a reversed cam (duh). They were rated at around 105-108 hp if i remember right. If its been sitting for a long time dont expect the carbs to be good...unless its never had gas in it then by all means. As for distributors you can use either the Hitachi (4x4) carb or the Nippo-Denso (2wd) distributor. Just make sure to get the corresponding coil. Wanna sell it and make a profit?
  7. I second that!! I hunted around for over a year trying to get one of those and u stumble into lol. At any rate enjoy.
  8. Yea John told me the same thing. I think it just comes down to me needing to steal his job cause he cant seem to do it
  9. your going to end up custom fabbing just about anything that goes into that car. Is this car going to be driven on the street daily? If so i would NOT get the racing seats that are non-adjustable. That will get old really fast on long drives when u want to switch positions. As for aftermarket seats that will help you out....i would look into a set of recaros or flofits. I have flofits in my car. If you hunt around long enough you can find them cheap. They were big $$$$ back in the day but i got em for a song. And i did get lucky too in the EA81 body style...they bolted right up with no mods to the stock rails.
  10. For the love of God avoid 80 over the George Washington bridge like the plague. I have never NOT gotten stuck in traffic over that bridge. Worst was 3 hours of stop and go...best was 1 1/2. Going out of the way to 287 is well worth it. 1 dollar less toll too if i remember right.
  11. Sweet!!. Thanks a ton. Time to call the dealership...tomorrow.
  12. I like where this is going. If you found the heads and cam too im stealling them As for the air box and such call up some aviation places. I was looking into doing this and located a air box and dual carb setup at one of these places that used to deal with EA81s. I forget the name but if you search aviation and EA81 subaru u should be able to find them.
  13. Sweet those the Subaru part #'s? Just making sure. If so ill call the dealership tomorrow and bit#H them out for being dumb.
  14. Not a matter of it being wrong but not OEM. Subaru only on those gaskets.
  15. Probably the slides on the caliper. Time for a rebuild...or just buy a rebuilt and packed set from Rock auto. They are dirt cheap...like 40 bucks if i remember right.
  16. If its stuck the cable is probably getting rusted up in the housing. What gary said..pull both front wheels and figure out which cable is seized. You can try working it around but that has never worked for me. If its seized that good then id say just unhook it at the brake for now until you get a new cable.
  17. Well oil pump and water pump im sure i can get from napa and be fine but intake gaskets are dealer only...so if anyone has those gaskets and could ship them to me for a price or has the part numbers that would be awesome!
  18. Well my local dealership is retarded and threw away all its old part manuals so they cant look up parts for my car anymore . Anyways i need part numbers for the following if anyone would be so kind. Intake manifold gaskets Water pump gasket Oil pump gasket Thanks to anyone who can look these up. Guess im calling them tomorrow instead.
  19. Its got no cracks or leaks. The top mounting point just came undone from the side of the radiator. It looks like it wasnt very securely soldered on anyways.
  20. In the process of pulling the the motor out of my coupe i pulled the radiator for the millionth time and found out the top piece of metal is separated from the sides and center on the passenger side. My question is can i tack weld it back on or should i just JB weld it? These things are Brazed from the factory right?
  21. +1 Ive owned all three going from the one barrel to the hitachi to the weber. The one barrel is a terrible carburetor. Mine was a low mileage unit and would not run right until the car was fully warmed up and even then it never ran 100 percent. Also i should note that i got better fuel economy with the hitachi than with the carter weber. Going from the hitachi to the weber i didnt really lose much gas mileage but i gained reliability and ease to work on. If it were me id pick up a hitachi intake and ditch the one barrel. There really is no gain in keeping it.
  22. Ok good to know. I just ordered them up online and am having it all delivered. There are only a few other things that i need to get and i should be set to throw it together. Since i have the heads off the Solid lifter motor i might as well have them serviced and up the comp a bit. Not going to bother spliting the case just for time limitations and needing to get this car back together so a delta cam for this motor is out for now. I will probably do the cam in the hydro motor when i have more time to play with it.
  23. I kno on american cars a cracked flexplate can do that. Not sure how u could have done that in a Loyale with little hp though but anything is possible.
  24. So what should i be looking for for a headgasket? Ive heard the felpro permatorque ones being thrown around as the ones to get on this board but they are pricier than others that i found on rock auto. here is a list of others that i found too including the permatorques. Im planning on ordering up most of what i need this weekend and hopefully have the engine back in the car by the beginning of next weekend. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/mmp/subaru~brat~head_gasket~parts.html
