  1. Figured i would bring this one back from the dead. As some of you know i was having issues with the sunroof and such. Well i got that all taken care of along with all the bodywork it needed for now. I have it probably about 95% done (all thats left is the carpet once i figure out if the roof leaks along with stereo and center console). Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to all who helped and answered questions along the way. I took her for a spin down the road she ran GREAT. I cant wait to put some seat time in. Driving the camaro the past few weeks was fun (other than that warning from the cop) but i missed driving stick so much. So for starters here are the pictures of how i have the sunroof drains done. Id recommend anyone with a sunroof EA81 do this. There can be no good coming from water running on the inside of your rockers. And...here are the pictures of the car today! Needs a buff like crazy but shes all together.
  2. I can answer one of your questions...KYB for some odd reason does not make the Gas-adjust for the front. I know cause i wanted it on all for corners but the best i could get was the GR2 at all 4 corners. Im curious what others say though cause the GR2s in the rear dont seem to be stiff enough still. I wonder what the Gas-adjust in the rear and the GR2s in the front would feel like.
  3. Welcome back Russ. Glad to hear "most" things are going well. Good to see you back.
  4. My experience with the taurus through friends and family is that it could possibly be one of the most boring cars ever made....but they really didnt have too many problems. Ive seen many with high miles still going strong. Good backup car id say. Just watch out for the trans going bad...if the fluid has not been changed recently or ever i would consider that on the list of to-dos.
  5. Nope. You have 4x140 wheels on your 87 now. Here are all the wheels that will work on it. http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/wheels/wheels.html
  6. Im going to side with Rob on this one. Modify what you want. Do a DR 5 speed swap. Honestly i think that would increase the value along with the rear disk swap. There are only a select few people who know that car exists and most of em are on here. Me personally...if i had the choice between a clean restored EA81T coupe with a 5 speed swap and rear disks or a slightly weathered but all original one i would choose the swapped one any day. Thats just me.
  7. Instead u guys got the EA81 RX..aka more power than a turbo coupe.
  8. Mine does it on rare occasions as well but only when i let off the gas in first and only once in a blue moon. It doesnt happen often enough for me to worry about though and half of me thinks when it does happen maybe i just didnt push it far enough into first Either way i usually crawl along in 2nd in traffic so thats not an issue.
  9. wow i forgot about this thread. To update myself a bit i have not been to a mechanic probably since the first post in this thread. All ive done is gotten alignments and tires mounted. I dont really consider that going to a mechanic since anyone can do it with the right tools (which i dont have). Every other repair i have done myself mainly cause..its an subaru. They are simple to work on so why pay someone else when im more than capable of doing it myself.
  10. Yea the books pop up from time to time on ebay and on here. I got lucky and scored a very nice condition copy of it for 20 bucks shipped. It is by far the best resource for older subarus out there. Very easy to read and helpful hints that Haynes or Chiltons does not. Highly recommend this book if you can find it.
  11. You should download this. How to Keep your Subaru Alive is a great resource to have. I just checked mine and there is a procedure for adjusting the valves. http://www.worldwidecm.com/HTKYSA.pdf
  12. Well what im thinking might be the easiest and most effective is drilling a hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the tube and pulling it through the A pillar right behind the plastic inner fender so it drains down and out of the car...not directly into the rocker. I dont think there is another way out of the rocker to do the adding a hose method. Im just trying to make it so that it doesnt rust out in 5 years.... Futile as it may sound. Im honestly surprised that it isnt more rusty where its draining. Just surface rust on the pinch weld with no rot. Amazing.
  13. Oh nice Pete. I gotta try that at somepoint then. For now i gave up trying to make it look perfect under the hood and am focused on getting it on the road again.
  14. Well just did a test by pouring water in one of the drains. It came out between the two layers of metal on the pinch weld. So i guess subaru decided it would be ok to drain it right into the rockers. Not cool. Im rerouting it out of the rocker.
  15. Pulled the a pillar covers off. Didnt get me anywhere there. Im going to pull the kick panel off and take a peek behind but i dont think ill find anything.
  16. Ok so the thing i thought was the drain wasnt. Anyone know where the front two drain holes go to? I really have no clue. My buddy thinks they drain right into the rockers but that cant be right.
  17. If its push button 4wd its part time 4wd and its only single range (4wd hi only)
  18. Nope. Again you could have 4wd, or 2wd setups with the GL-10 line. Ive seen a fully optioned GL-10 wagon with power sunroof, digidash, cruise, power windows and everything you could imagine but...it was a 2wd automatic with SPFI. If its full time 4wd it will say full time 4wd. If im not mistaken though i think only the RXs got that gearbox. Otherwise your looking at pushbutton (single range) or dual range 4wd.
  19. i was using a 14 gauge stereo wire and got it most of the way down. The drain makes a 90 degree or close to it right at the bottom where it pops out behind the door hinge. My buddy is going to bring over a air gun for the compressor and we are going to blow it out that way. the rears are clean but both fronts are plugged.
  20. So i think i found the drain...looks like it comes out right behind the lower hinge. Also found the rear drains. They were clear.
  21. I saw the cowl drain there but did not find the sunroof drain. Ill have to look again.
  22. Pedal force sounds like the brake booster might not be doing its job or you still have air in the lines. Mushy pedal. As for the rears locking up you need adjustable proportioning valves to turn the rear brakes down a bit. Drum brakes use considerably more pressure than disks to work so the stock setup is putting tons of pressure to those disks. I had to do the adjustable valves on my sedan (and now coupe) because of this problem. Its downright dangerous for the rears to lock before the fronts.
  23. Well went ahead and pulled the cowl anyways in an effort to find the drain. Didnt find that yet but did find rust . Now i gotta figure a game plan for fixing it since its hard to get to.
