Ea81 timing with weber and msd?
hatchsub replied to slideshow86's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im running mine at around 10 or 11. You can advance it but not crazy. If your not hearing any pinging you "should" be ok but i would turn it back a bit just to be a bit more on the safe side. -
Marks are not on the pulley. Its not a chevy lol. The timing marks are on the front of the flywheel/flexplate. There is a timing window in the bellhousing on the passenger side of the motor. If you have a a rubber plug still (most dont anymore) pull it out and rotate the motor to #1 TDC I believe and you will see the marks. Then mark em up and time away! Good luck. As for vacuum advance, that whole thing about the 2wd dis having better advance may or may not be true. I have run both the 4wd and the 2wd dis and have felt no differences to be honest. If your vacuum advance canister on the dis is working then i would leave it as is. If you want to try the direct method i dont think it would hurt. Thats how anyone running a weber (me) is running their advance but i feel no difference in power.

Yea i still havent learned it lol. I love my EA81. Ive replaced just about everything and know how to fix it when it breaks (which thankfully does not happen too frequently now that ive dumped a ton of cash in it). Once well maintained they are great cars. They all need some lovin at this point though.

Nature of the beast. Its a 20+ year old car. Its not going to be without problems. Even if the former owner kept up on maintenance and its got low mileage it does not mean that it wont have those sorts of problems if you start to drive it daily. I have replace both axles twice on my subaru along with a host of other things and i just hit 90k alittle while ago (EA81 sedan) so i understand where your coming from. But look at it this way....as long as the engine and transmission and rear are in good shape I wouldnt worry too much. Its still cheaper than buying new...sorta lol.

By any chance roaming the yards do you stumble on EA81 era things..such as the dual carb motor? Just had to ask.

84 four spokes. Those are my fav stock EA81 alloy.

Jets are as follows: 140/140 main jets 160/170 air corrector jets 50 or 55 or 60 main idle jet. Secondary idle jet should be fine at 50. On my car i found i needed to run a 60 on the main idle jet so there was no dead spot right off the line.

Not hating at all Rob. I respect the fact that you have one of the reliable EA82Ts. You had to go through some crap to get there though right (as in not so good EA82Ts)? -

There was a place not too long ago featured on spike tv or in my magazines (or both) that remanufactured original exhausts. Im not sure of the name but they are out there and probably have an exhaust for your car. -

There are a few of those scooting around my area...with big fat rear tires and skinny front tires lol. Nice find. Just one question not necessarily directed at you...do all late 70s cars have to be poop brown or pea green -
Best place to buy EA81 transmission mounts
hatchsub replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup im running a set of them in my car now. Not sure if they are just a pain in the butt to put in because they are aftermarket or because they are just a tight fit but i ended up dropping the crossmember, bolting it on to the tranny without the crossmember and then bolting the cross back in place. -
If you play with the gas will it stay running? Honestly something sounds more out of wack then just throttle linkage. Have you also checked for vacuum leaks? My check list would be: Choke...adjusted? Vacuum leaks Something plugged up inside the carb Without knowing more thats all i got for you.

I cant remember locations exactly but one of those lines should be the return and the other is the tank vent (leave open). If you pulled the lines off the stock carb the fuel return should have been the smaller of the two that was hooked up right next to the main fuel line.
