Im pretty sure it was when the motor was coming down for the switch to fourth. But again it might have been at the top of third that it did it. Not entirely sure. -

It uses a bit of oil but not a big amount by any means. Sometimes i forget to top it off between changes and its never down very much even in those instances. All plugs looked good with a nice even brown color to them. One had a bit of oil around the base of the plug but still brownish colored. I just gave it a full tune-up including plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. Advance is set around 10 degrees now. -
Hey everyone! Ive been super busy with school and my other car so i havent gotten too much of a chance to get on here recently. Then this problem surfaced so i figured i should pick everyones brain. My roommate joe was driving behind me when we were coming back from breakfast the other day. There was a very long uphill stretch of road with a passing zone. The car in front of me was driving SLOOOOOOWW so i dropped it down to 3rd, floored it and blew by them. Joe (roommate) followed right behind in his Merkur. When we got back he told me that i had puffed blue right when i pulled back in front of the slow car...so basically when i shifted back to fourth and gave it gas in fourth. So....basically what are the possible problems here? Im figuring either a. rings b. valve stem seals c. all the above Anything else thats cheaper and less of a pain? I just replaced my PCV too but there was a good amount of oil in my lines. Also might want to add for people that done know, im running a weber carb with straight pipe exhaust.

Hey guys, Sorry i havent been posting much lately. This has been a busy last semester of college. Im graduating in May (hopefully). I have spent probably the good portion of the last 2 months working on my other car to get it restored. I was hoping to have it done and put together for a car show two weekends ago but that didnt happen so I put it on hold until i graduate. Now the bad news... I literately have no money to get out there anymore for the show. I blew it all on the camaro so this is the first time in two years im going to have to say have fun and send pictures. It doesnt help that the subaru is looking a bit worse for wear this year and im not all that excited to show it anymore. I need to spend a good few weekends cutting and welding new metal but i dont have time before finals or probably after as well . I will also need time to find a job and move out of my apartment. I hope everyone has a great time! Sorry I could not be there to partake. Steve -

EA81/EA82 Higway RPMS Question
hatchsub replied to Ken_B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What no 5 speed ea81 rpms? I got a 2wd and it will cruise at 3000rpms at 75. -
Camaros suck in the snow too. 5.0 convertible for 1000 bucks that runs? Id get it. Thats just me though.

Yep that kit will work on an EA81-so also your brat. Whether or not the weber is worth it brings up a bit of a debate. I think its a great carb if tuned right. I had tons of running problems with my one barrel carter-weber, and then the two barrel hitachi. So i gave up on both and bought a new weber. It needed some extra tuning out of the box (upped the idle jet), and i also replaced the plastic throttle shaft bushings with roller bearings. Other than that i did a bit of tuning, and upped my timing to around 11 or 12 degrees and all is well. It starts up easier than it did before and i dont have to wait around for 3 or 4 minutes to drive it anymore. Basically the only drawback to the weber is the price and the fact u have to tune it. If not tuned right they run aweful.

rule of thumb for cutting springs?
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sweet!!! And yes i did put them both side by side and the turbo springs were ever so slightly taller. I didnt think much of it until i had put it all back together. -

Yea everyone said it was going to lower it a bit but mine raised it up. I made sure the springs were fully seated where they needed to be. I dont get it. -

Not that i know of to the xt strut question. I have brand new KYB GR2 struts so the struts should be fine. As far as stiff rides im fine with it being a bit stiffer than it is now. I just cant stand the front end up in the air look it has right now. -

Or you can just ship me the whole motor briggs. I swear i will get it running. LOL Not sure it will get shipped back though -
Im about to pull the front suspension again to cut the springs down. I have EA81 turbo front springs and they actually lifted the front of my car up a bit (kinda sitting like a 4wd now). Anyways how much do i cut or do i ballpark it and hope im close? I want about an 1 to 2 inches of gap between the fender and the tire (do not want to tuck tire like a vw). Right now i have about 4-5 inches..no joke. Ive heard the most i should cut off is one full coil before ride quality is ruined. Is this true?

S-10s or Rangers. I would lean a bit towards the ranger myself because it actually rides like a truck should. My brother in law had one and loved it. Very good truck for him. He didnt consider the S10 cause he had driven them and they ride like cars. I have driven both a 2wd ranger and a 2wd S10 and the ranger rode way nicer. Both mid 90s trucks. Both 4 cylinders. Get a 6 for sure and you will be golden.

New interior in my IROC camaro
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Hahaha yea the whole car is pretty mullettastic right now. Its going to have a red hatch on it soon too (on a white car). The original is rotted out on the underside. For comparison...this is what it would have looked like if i had decided to go completely stock -
Figured i would post this up here. I loved the look of the 83-85 conteur interiors in camaros but problem was i had an 88. What is one to do. Get one and recover it. I got my original rear seats recovered and found a set of real conteur front seats to redo...along with some 25 year old NOS fabric. I did it in a custom way. Factory would have had the whole seat as an orangy color. I broke it up by combining the black from side bolsters from another color offered and the red/orange centers. I think it turned out nice. Let me know what you think! Oh yea might want to mention that the drivers seat has 18 different adjustments
