  1. Yup purely for offroad use. Its useless on road. Its basically a poor mans LSD...but never lets go lol. Hes planning on dirt track racing with it though so road manners are the last thing on his mind. Keep us informed. Sounds like fun.
  2. Connie two times ago we took the choke housing off because your choke was not opening. It might need to be readjusted. There is a spring in there and little "rod" that fits into the coiled end of the spring. It might have fallen out. Not too terrible to fix but it will take some fiddling to get it to operate correctly (ie start well and also open up when its warm) As for taking it for a spin..yup it runs good...1st..oh yea 2nd..sweet..3rd....3RD...3RRRRRDDD...ah there ya go. lol
  3. Its been awhile since i looked at a carter-weber but ill try to help as best i can. Look at the throttle linkage where the throttle cable attached. Move it by hand and see how it moves. There should be a stop screw somewhere to adjust where it closes. I believe it will be in the drivers side front of the carb. It might even be marked with white if your lucky.
  4. They did it cause they had the moto "who cares about the passengers..only the driver matters". But seriously the only reason the driver got the auto up and down feature and the passenger didnt is because the driver is the one that goes through the tolls and needs that freedom to be able to hit the switch and fumble for change at the same time without having to hold his/her hand on the switch the whole time. If it were me i would just write a note and tape it to the dash saying "window switch on the center console stupid" with an arrow pointing down.
  5. No need to get aftermarket coil. In fact i advise you not to. I had one and it burned out the distributor. These engines are so small you wont notice the difference anyways. If you hunt around the board you will find that the factory coils are better quality and a better match for the distributor. These distributors are pretty sensitive to more power so when swapping distributors say (hitatchi to Nippo Denso or visa versa) you need to swap the corresponding coil as well.
  6. yea with a weber you can advance your timing a bit more. Im running somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-12 degrees (kinda did it by feel...not pinging)
  7. Possibly the funniest thing ive read all night GD
  8. Not to make you take the carb back off again but bigjim sells a roller bearing kit for the throttle shaft that will eliminate the binding for the most part. I had the same problem as well and this helped me. As for your hessitation off idle, what idle jet do you have? Its that brass screw to the right of the choke housing. If you unscrew it it should have a 50,55, 60 written on it. I think stock these things came with 50s for idle jets and i found it would not transition out of the idle circuit nicely. I upped mine to a 60 and it does not hessitate anymore.
  9. There is an exact way to set the float in the weber repair manual. It is on here somewhere of how to set it. I had to set mine and it was brand new out of the box from redline..supposedly new and set up correctly.
  10. From my experience of owning only subarus and GM products (two camaros and one firebird) i can say that subarus are built better by far. Both of my subarus have been EA81s. The first sat for 3 years and i had to do a few things to get it roadworthy again but i managed. Then i got a camaro instead. Big mistake. That thing was in the shop all the time. So i finally got rid of the problems with the camaro (more previous owners beatings than anything else) and got a 83 EA81 sedan for a daily. Then came a trans am after my mom totalled my camaro. That car lasted with me for 2 weeks in which time i decided it was a hunk of crap and i didnt want to deal with it. Also about that time i had found another camaro that i wanted more. Out of both my cars (the camaro and my subaru are all i have now) the subaru is by far easier to work on and doesnt give me as many headaches as the camaro. It also does not rattle nearly as much as the camaro. Does that change the way i feel about the camaro? Of course not. Its still my fun car. I love it for what its...fast and fun. It handles great. I just know that owning it im going to have to work on it periodically. The subaru seems to be happy with oil changes as of lately. And thats about it.
  11. could be 2wd or 4wd. With the stance it has im betting its 2wd.
  12. I think the best picture didnt make it to the USMB. A certain ratchet extension placed....somewhere
  13. Actually Connie, John and i popped the dust cap off the rear wheel to repack the bearings, but then saw that the grease was nice and clean and a good amount of it so why bother messing with perfection lol. We slapped it back together without ever getting into it. Glad LB is up and running. Had a good time with everyone as usual. That EA81 sounds as good if not better than mine.
  14. Im getting about the same as a hitachi. Most on the board find they stay about the same +/- a couple mpg.
  15. It has an electric choke. I put a bit more tension on the choke spring (whatever the technical term for that is) and increased the choke idle and the past two days its started on the first try with a few pumps of the gas. Not sure about if it gets really cold though. Its been a few degrees warmer these past couple days.
  16. If they were really marred up you might want to check your distributor shaft for lots of side to side play. Hows the timing when you put a light on it? Does it jump around a bit?
  17. Right now in the cold im seeing 25-27ish mix of highway and backroads with my weber. Best ive seen is 33mpg on the highway on the way to carlisle two summers ago. If a weber is tuned right gas mileage will be comparable to SPFI. Cold starting is the big downside. I finally got my choke to work pretty well but it will never be as good starting in the cold as SPFI. It all comes down to which you prefer basically. If i had to do it over again i may or may not have gone the SPFI route. I love my weber for the simplicity but could def use some nicer cold start behavior.
  18. Ok just for some clarification for myself..is this an EA81T or an EA82T. If its the EA81 then no your axles will be fine. If its the EA82T then you will need to find a 5 speed from a turbo car to get the correct 25 splines..or get 23 spline axles from a non-turbo car along with a non-turbo 5 speed. EDIT. Just read your other post. EA82T it is. Disregard EA81T info.
  19. Im going to vote simple first. When was the last time you changed your fuel filters? Plugs, wires, rotor, cap?
  20. spray some wd-40 or PB blaster on the splines to help it slide in. Also make sure there isnt a ton of junk on the splines. Can you get it far enough on to get the nut started on it? pull through that way maybe? Ive never had a problem with my front axles but i only have 2wd so never done rears.
  21. I have some EA71 valve cover gaskets with no grommets for the actual bolts. They are yours if u pay for shipping.
