  1. LMAO i wish. and as far as wheel bearings it would make noise constantly if it that was the case. This comes and goes only once in awhile.
  2. I have started to hear this humming/whining coming from the passenger side front of my car. The thing that throws me off though is its only if the car is moving, doesnt matter if the car is in gear and under load or in neutral idling, as long as its moving it will happen. But then as soon as i start to hear it, it vanishes. What gives? It sounded like wind the first time heard it and it still does but it never made that noise on this car before. It literally comes and goes like an on/off switch.
  3. I would just do both. I did only the one making noise and the other one started up making noise soon after. Once one makes noise chances are they are both needing replacement.
  4. Connie you know that john, jess and I are more than willing to come over and lend a hand getting LB running again. There are too many things it could be to just assume that the head gaskets went. It could very well have been the intake gaskets or the water pump as mentioned. Dont give up. Im in your shoes right now with my camaro. Spent a month of free nights doing a rear end swap only to be left with dragging disk brakes and a blown posi...yay me.
  5. Yea i saw that stuff advertised on trucks (powerblock..oh yea!) and thought about it as well. I may just go that route.
  6. No real trick for the oil pan. There are holes drilled in the engine crossmember in the right places to get at the back bolts/screws. You can fit a phillips screwdriver up the holes and remove all the back bolts. There is enough clearance to pull the pan without raising the engine.
  7. Yea thats what i was afraid of. I have a set of Toyos on my car right now and they are dry rotted a bit (4 years and 30+k miles). I think im looking at new tires before the snow starts falling.
  8. Brats have body colored flat gas doors that are not like anything else EA81. The ones above are for sedans, coupes, or hatches.
  9. Ive looked all around the net and cant seem to find any all season white letter tires. I know ive seen them on subarus before so i know they exist..or is it that they existed? Anyone know where to get a set?
  10. For wheels what are u looking to spend? There are a number of options available for the 4x140 bolt pattern. There are a good selection of factory alloys that look pretty good in most cases. There are also a handful of aftermarket rims. I have a set of enkeis on my car (in my avatar) that i think are the best looking 4x140 wheels available. If your interested in going that route though be prepared to spend a little bit. Factory alloys are fairly cheap at around 100-200 depending on condition. Enkeis going price is a bit north of that.
  11. I dont own a brat nor have i ever but i have owned 2 EA81 vehicles (currently a 83 sedan). These are by far the most trouble free vehicles i have ever owned. They are quirky but turn heads everywhere. Most of the stuff that goes wrong with mine is because of me not cause of the car lol. I only have 2wd and it goes through most anything if i have good tires so a brat is unstoppable. I would vote you should go get one. Just make sure to get a GL for the T-tops. Also should note that i daily drive my 83. consistently get 24+ mpg. Highway its 29+. Not bad for a 25 year old car.
  12. Contrary to popular belief running it everyday will actually invite rodents in. You will make the engine warm and inviting for them if all it does is sit in the garage. And good news with all the new parts. Let me know the possible dates for a work party.
  13. I personally would not trust a no name brand regulator. Its probably cheaply made. If you run lean because of it you could blow your engine since i think your boosted.
  14. ok...its not the starter..its the connections to my pushbutton. Somethings screwy. Im going to rewire it later on today. I went out and bought a new push button for no reason.
  15. Ok cool thanks connie. I would be interested in one but i need the car running by monday and dont have time to run over to New Milford this weekend (two exams this coming week that i havent had a chance to study for ) This car is killing me right now. Worst timing ever.
  16. What the title says, im having problems with my starter and am going to go out and trouble shoot. There is a junkyard nearby that has an EA82 wagon. Im just wondering if worst comes to worst if that starter will work in my car (83 EA81 sedan) ?
  17. Intake gaskets you should get from subaru direct. They dont cost that much and are much better quality than aftermarket. As far as emissions stuff, if you want to start cleaning up your engine bay, basically all you need is vacuum advance for the distributor, power for the choke, and fuel/fuel return. If you are running vacuum for your choke too which i assume you are you will need that too. All else can be removed. But just to be on the safe side.. remove it and start the car all along the way to make sure you didnt yank something important.
  18. Mods feel free to make a post of this in the stereo install section of the USRM Ok ill post here so everyone can see as well as give you step by steps of how to do the install. First off here are the pics. http://cardomain.com/ride/724118/3 As i said the passenger side is direct bolt in with the 4x6 plate speaker. I used infinity Kappas cause i found some good deals on Ebay and i wanted the best sound i could get. Drivers side i had to get creative. When you take the Stock speaker out you will have to remove the speaker grill. Be VERY careful as this is brittle now and could break if you squeeze the top too much. You are going to be able to reuse it and cover up the speaker again to make it look factory so you dont want to break it. Take the lower dash panel out. Then remove the bottom screw for the speaker as well as the other screws holding the fuse box tray in. If you can avoid it dont remove the back one cause its a PITA to put back with the ground and all. Then remove the top screws and the speaker will come out along with its metal mount. Remove the speaker from the mount and do what u wish with the speaker. Mine is going in the trash if it hasnt been thrown out by the rents already. Now to use the original mount i cut the top part of it off and the bottom part of it, marked and drilled holes using the plate speakers as reference, and then bolted the now two mounts to the top and bottom of the plate speaker (this is shown best in picture #4,5, and 6). I had to do some bending and fiddling and some trimming of insulation on the inside of the dash but it will fit. Then its just a matter of putting it all back together. When you go to put the bottom dash trim piece back on you will have to make a piece of metal to extend the trim piece to its new hole. Im not sure i have a picture of that but you will see what needs to be done when you get to that point. Also the fuse box will not be perfectly level ever again. There is just no getting around this when putting that big of a speaker in. It doesnt look bad IMO though. Hope this helps.
  19. Enjoy trying to figure out how to mount bigger than 4" round speakers in the stock locations in the back. You are going to have to do some hacking to fit anything bigger cause 4" rounds sound like crap. For the dash you can mount 4X6" speakers in the stock locations. I used Infinity plate speakers. Passenger side bolted right up. Drivers side i had to make a custom mount using the old speaker mount and cutting it in half. If you would like more info on this you can PM me and ill send you a link to pics as well as give you better instructions. Best part is...no hacking of the stock dash except to mount the headunit and you get to make it look all factory with a nicer sound system.
  20. Check the entire car for rot. Subarus of that vintage are notorious for rotting out. If it has rust ask yourself if you mind it..as long as its not structural. If it is structural turn around and walk away.
  21. Yup it works. I swapped trannies this way. Not the easiest thing in the world but yea it works.
