I got mine to be flush with the rest of the dash. It was super tight but it fit. -

The KYB gas-adjusts are a very good quality shock that i would recomend. I would have gotten a set of them for my car if they made ones for the front. -
Aftermarket digital water temp...

if your looking for top quality go for autometer. You dont need to spring for the top end stuff but you still get a quality gauge if it says autometer on it. I hear sunpro is fairly good too but i dont have much experience with those gauges. -
EA81 smoke under hard cornering?
hatchsub replied to CornerHard's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its probably how you have your PCV system hooked up with the weber (im assuming you have a weber). Do you have the line from the drivers side head going straight to the PCV valve? If so this is probably your problem. I have both valve covers connected and then i T'd into them and down to the PCV valve and T'd off of that line up to the air cleaner. I have not had any oil getting sucked into the intake yet. -
Anyone have a EA81 Oilpump..

Ouch buddy. That sucks. May i ask how you managed that? -
Mains should be 140/140. Primary idle can be anywhere from 50/55/60. Secondary idle doesnt really do much so you can leave that at 50. My subaru, with a weber carb, straight pipe exhaust, and 5 speed 2wd averages 28 or better. If its all highway im averaging around 29-30. It needs a tune-up.

100 dollars probably isnt a bad deal. I asked 150 for my set of alloys 4 spokes and got it. Its more what people are willing to pay for them. They are nice and hard to come by.

Thanks for posting pics in the other thread. This is on my list of fav old subarus...that didnt make it to the US. Good luck with it. Looks awesome.

Happy Birthday Rob -
Wouldnt one have to use the stock Air box modified for the weber in order for them to work though. As for the catalitic converters..I ditched them.

GD im running a bracket from a non-AC car but I missmatched and it was fine..in other words my outer bracket is a non-AC bracket and my inner one is. My AC didnt work and i wanted to free some space up as well.

Connie, I meant to mention. While the engine is out you might want to get rid of those ASV valves. The weber doesnt use them and they are crappy design. My plan has always been to eventually get under mine and undo the pipe from the exhaust manifold and make a plug of some sort (ive heard talk of fitting a dime in down there or a quarter as well and tightening it back up..this is after cutting the pipe out of the fitting). Engine looks very purty though. Glad your keeping it. I dont have space for another car

What is a good milage for everyone with EA81s to replace oil pumps GD? Sorry for the thread hijack Connie but its sorta on topic.

Has anyone done this? I am just interested in tightening up the shifting on my EA81 5 speed 2wd. It has new bushings now and still has good amounts of play in gear. If i could reduce that more or eliminate it that would be great. The only thing i havent replaced is the bushing or whatever it is at the base of the shifter. the other two going out towards the transmission are new.

Better late than never...Happy Birthday buddy. Talk to you soon...probably tomorrow lol. -
What he and i are getting at is if the clutch is bigger chances are the flywheel is different. Whether or not you can use your clutch on the bigger flywheel is the question.
-
Ttiwwop . Mmmmhhh Gsr
-
Someone may need to correct me but im almost possitive that 2wd flywheels are different than 4wd flywheels cause i remember someone saying that the clutches for the 2wds were smaller. As for your engine, for 235k it looks damn good on the inside. Cylinder walls look nice and clean. Thats cute that someone didnt put in one of the flywheel bolts . And holy leaking rear main Connie!!

Connie, I will try my best. If its on a weekend when there is nothing going on then yes for sure. Let me know ahead of time when you want to do it and we can compare schedules.

short shifter-DONE!!..Picture added!!
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Awesome. I didnt really want to shorten the throws between gears because it isnt a performance tranny and I didnt want it to be harder to shift. I had thought about it though. Im curious, how does the tranny feel with the shortened throws? Does it engage normal? -
I did the carter-weber to hitachi swap. I dont remember there being any difference in the EGR hard line going to the passenger head. I had both manifolds side by side.

This is actually one of the reasons i did it. I saw yours and decided i wanted one too. Love the metal shift knob.
