weber throttle linkage binding
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You have to take the primary throttle plate out but its pretty straightforward in putting it back in. Mine still had dirt lines from where it was before so i just didnt clean it till i bolted it back in. -

Took it apart today. Replaced the AWEFUL plastic bushings with the roller bearings. SOO much better. No binding now. Smooth throttle. A++ -

Wow rob they look amazing. They kinda remind me of the Vector rims that were on the general lee when they are painted up like that. Def give it a mean look. -
LB is def going to one fine subaru when your done with him. What a great find for a great price. Gotta love subaru engines...230k something and still purrs when you fire it up.

Just so everyone else knows that "tight rear" comment was because i pirated the rear sway bar off of Connies XT6. I made a comment about driving back with a tight rear (as in rear of the car) and I didnt live it down and probably never will lol. So its not the dirty thing that all u are thinking By the way..John how are those flaming pieces of metal that i sent down your pants doing LOL.

Well just letting everyone know that i still have a damp trunk. I had installed GL-10 Tail lights and thought that i hadnt sealed them well. So off they came and sure enough it looked like that was where the water was coming in. So i siliconed the crap of of the car side of the gasket and slapped them back in. Figured i was done with it. Nope. Still getting wet trunks. I pulled everything out and then it rained again. I opened the now empty trunk and it was bone dry. What gives? Should i wait for hard downpours or something?

Yea but even with that its still not going to be "perfect" unless she paint entire panels. Ive done enough paint work to know that even if the color matches perfectly its damn hard to blend it into 20+ year old existing paint. -
yes its true that ethanol has a higher octane rating but it also has 34% less energy than gas...meaning 34% less fuel economy. So yea dumb idea all around. I had a book in my room published in 1988 by a scientist that outlined why ethanol couldnt be a main fuel. Funny how we are trying to make it one some 20 years later.

want to convert my ea82 spfi to carbureted-help!
hatchsub replied to jonnymick's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I was going to say what Grossgary said. I love carbs too so thats saying something. If you have FI dont go backwards in time. Fix it and enjoy it. -
I know this is about running ethanol in an old suby but i have to add my 2 cents in. I just did a research paper on ethanol and concluded that it is one of the dumbest ideas that our government has done thus far. Its NOT sustainable, it doesnt really pollute less when looking at the whole picture (aka production, distribution etc) and doesnt cost any less than gas. I fact it is driving the price of gas up at the moment. Even if all the corn fields in the US were converted to ethanol production it would only fuel 12% of our demand for fuel. So my question is why bother? The government should be spending its time and energy on alternate sources such as electric and hydrogen. BMW already has a hydrogen powered car

Your telling me. I just found out that my trunk is still leaking . Not sure where the water is coming from anymore so i gotta pull everything out again and get in it and have a buddy hose the car off. Thats the only way i can think of. -

Tetanus refers to a sickness one can get from getting infected with rust, like a rusty nail or something cutting or piercing the skin. It has to do with muscles and contractions and such. Im no doctor and ive never gotten infected so i dont know the specifics. The yellow tetanus carrier she is refering to is Rocky, her XT6. Its rotted bad. -

On the sedans as well but thats the subaru badge with stars. Im refering to the actual subaru lettering on the far right. Both hers and mine is shot. I cant explain however why the trunk one is shot and the lettering on the fenders on mine looks new. -

Connie that looks amazing. Looking at your photos made me realize that we both need to rechrome our Subaru emblems on the trunk. I know mine looks exactly like yours. What is it with that one emblem going bad? -
weber throttle linkage binding
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Took the linkage all apart, cleaned it, put it back together. It still binds . I made a call to bigjim and bought his roller bearing throttle shaft repair kit. My carb may be relatively new but it already has a bit of play in the main shaft to the point i could feel the idle pick up if i put a bit of downward pressure on the shaft. Stupid plastic bushings.
