  1. Lots of members, myself included, have had good luck with GCK axles as well. There is a place on the internet (not sure of the link right now) where you can pick them up for 55 dollars.
  2. here it is. Just searched SPFI conversion manual. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67272&highlight=spfi+conversion+manual
  3. Replace it! Its def time if it has never been replaced. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the tranny. I think its a 17mm if i remember correctly. You can get gear oil at any auto parts place or even walmart. 75w90 should be what you need. Not sure how many quarts the 5 speed 4wd tranny takes but my 2wd took 3 so its that or more. To fill it you just fill it up in the same tube from where you check the gear oil..passenger side of tranny on the top. A side note, since its been so long since its been changed you may want to do the ATF flush. Run ATF in your tranny until it smooths out. Then drain and fill with gear oil.
  4. Last time i checked, Grant sold an adaptor for our cars. I would check into that and then pick a Grant that u like.
  5. Sounds like classic Accerator pump problems. thats in the carb and its what shoots the gas into the carb when u step on it initially from a stop.
  6. wow nice. What condition are they in? Rot? I love coupes and sedans. This summer im going to be hunting for a rotted one for a winter car. Mine i want to start taking off the roads during that time so if you know of any up that way or if one of those is a canditate..let me know.
  7. Wow thats the 4wd twin to my car. Awesome. I want it now .
  8. crazy thought i just had. Has anyone swaped the heads an intake from a Turbo EA81 onto a N/A block? Then run some sort of computer such as megasquirt? That way you would have an N/A MPFI EA81. Higher compression N/A block and pistons and MPFI should mean its pretty quick compared to carb.
  9. I got lucky and found one on ebay but it was for a nissan/datson so i had to get it drilled and taped for my threads. Looks almost identical to rare dealer-installed ones.
  10. Im not sure I understand what your trying to do. You say turbo SPFI swap. What are u refering to? The EA81T is a MPFI motor. As mentioned above it has less compression but since its turbo it was rated at 95 horsepower compared to 74. 400 for a crate motor doesnt sound that unreasonable.
  11. Yup all EA81 4wds were 4 speeds. 2wds got the 5 speeds. If tuned properly you can get upwards of 30mpg with that engine and tranny. Thats what im getting now in my sedan.
  12. I never run the maximum pressure that it says on the tire. I usually go a few below like you said. My car is running 40 on all wheels cause it feels about right. If the tire gets warmer as well the pressure expands so thats my reasoning behind not filling it all the way.
  13. I would try cleaning them up real good first. Chrome would look really good on that car. If that doesnt work would getting them rechromed be in the budget? Im not even sure how much that would cost. If those both are not options..then paint them black. Just my opinion.
  14. Yea what she said ^. Internal. Transmissions poping out gear are never a good sign.
  15. Shes already got a relatively rare set of factory 13inch alloys on it. They look good on that car IMO...but then again i may be biased since i have the same exact set
  16. They look like Enkei's but not quite. Cool though. Wish i could find a set like that.
  17. Is there any reason why you wouldnt want to run the stock hitachi's? I know they have a bad rap but they were made for that manifold.
  18. Replace both fuel filters. Also check/clean/replace your PCV valve. Sounds like you got everything else covered. Im assuming your tuneup will include an airfilter?
  19. Ah a bit late but still...Happy Birthday Paul. Hope its a good one!
  20. Yea my 5 speed will turn a bit over 3000 at 75mph. I average about 30mpg on the highway...sometimes more.
  21. Im guessing you would probably want to jet them down a bit as well since that would be overkill, unless you had the special cam and heads from the EA81 RX. And then it would still be overkill Sidethought, isnt there a smaller weber than the 32/36 that would be more appropriate for that manifold? EDIT: Just went around the internet and looked. I guess the 32/36 is as small as they go.
  22. Farthest anyone got in my family was my grandma on my mothers side. Just shy of 92 when she passed away.
