  1. Ok thanks guys. I figured what these guys told me was the right way to do it but i wasnt sure. It is a hydro engine. As for the cam/lifters they are both within the last 10,000 miles but 4 years ago. This car did alot of sitting in a garage before i got my hands on it.
  2. hey guys. I just got my IROC camaro back from the shop after a ton of rewiring. It runs 1,000,000 times better now that everything is the way its supposed to be. The question i have is what they told me i should do. They said they heard a bit of lifter noise and suggested that when someone replaced the cam and lifters they didnt go back in and readjust them when the engine was hot. They told me i should do it with the engine running and warmed up. Is there an easier way to do this that will work just as well? they were suggesting cutting an old valvecover to get at the rockers and not get hot oil all over my headers. Just so everyone knows, this is not a dealership. I am not taking it back to the chevy dealer. They did not know what they were doing. This is a small repair and restoration shop that specializes in Corvettes. Since a camaro and a corvette are very similar under the hood they had no problems redoing the wiring for me.
  3. WOW um sorry to bring this thread further off topic but are any of the Javelins/AMXs rust free or nearly rust free? Preferably 4 speed? And do you have any idea how much he would be selling such a car for. I would really love a 4 speed Javelin (71-2) or a 2 seat AMX with a 4 speed.
  4. I hate to see once great cars being treated like that. Makes me sad. But a bit off topic..any old school AMC muscle? Javelins,AMX's, Gremlin X's, Scramblers, or rebel machines? Just curious. Anything restorable or is it all rusted hunks of crap now?
  5. Well i got the shifter knob today. Wouldnt you know it didnt fit . Too small of threads. So I went all over the place and finally found a machine shop that drilled it out and taped it to 12x1.25. Ten bucks more later I have a spiffy real walnut shift knob. Ohhhhh...yeeeaaahhh:cool:
  6. Well the verdict on the seat. I got it a lot tighter. Not as tight as the passenger seat of course but better than it was. The back adjusting mechanism was almost falling off:eek: . I tightened the crap out of it and that took away a good chunk of the wobbles. The rest is just loosness in the actual rail. I think its just something i have to live with.
  7. hmm ok guys im going to pull the seats today and see what i find. Gotta love seats that take 5 minutes to pull as compared to my Camaro where some bolts are hard to get to.
  8. Ive done my fair share of reading on here about the EA82T's and have come to the conclusion that they dont like to be moded too much. You can do a few things to them but evenually they will blow on you. There is someone on this board (forget his user name) who blew a baseball size hole in his block when his engine blew. My advice..if you want to keep that car is to get a nice EJ22T or even a newer STI motor with matching tranny. For not much more than the amount of time and money you would invest in the EA82T you could have a faster more reliable engine combo/tranny combo.
  9. Hey my drivers and passenger seats really like to rock around a bit these days. Is there a way of tightening them up in their tracks? The bolts into the floor are plenty tight. Its the actual seat rails that are causing the wobble. Or am I just stuck with it?
  10. Do the steps listed in my writup for taking an auto out. Add the step for unbolting the rear diff. Then reverse what u just did to put the "new" tranny in. Done.
  11. Heres a writup i did for my 3at to 5 speed 2wd swap. Its not all that hard to do. Some aspects of it are different for the 4wd but those that have done the 4wd ones will chim in. http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69534
  12. Well a bit of an update on the bike. I still have it in pieces but i just bought another wheel set for it. The original wheels are campy record hubs with sew up rims. If anyone knows anything about vintage bikes then you know they are biotch to change tires on if you get a flat (tire is glued to the rim). So i located a set of regular clincher(sp) rims with the same exact hubs and bought them cheap. I have the back one really close to true (as close as i can get it). The front one is almost done as well. Best of all it came with a nice suntour racing freewheel attached.
  13. Look at the sellers other auctions. I saw a 4 speed walnut knob like this one. EDIT. Just looked. I guess i miss-remembered. I found one of the fake-leather ones. Its a 4 speed patern though. Looks really nice. BIN 22 bucks! Cant beat that. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-600-4-SPEED-AMCO-SHIFT-KNOB-NOS-RARE-ACCESSORY_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ6763QQihZ002QQitemZ120221591577QQtcZphoto Just looked again and the threads are wrong. I suppose if u wanted it you could buy it and tap it out to 12x1.25.
  14. How bad are the stock 4 speeds? Damn. My EA81 2wd 5 speed will cruise all day at 75 without breaking a sweat.
  15. Just so you guys know this is why i was asking that question. Ive wanted a wooden 5 speed shift knob for some time and this one looks identical to ones in a 74 subaru accessory catalog. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120229425626&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:MOTORS:1123 I just won it for 24 bucks. I figure i did good.
  16. wow i was right. LOL. Sweet. Now i gotta figure out how moisture is getting in my camaros turn signal:mad:
  17. Yea i realized that lug nuts were the same thread looking around to see what other japanese brands worked. The guy i have a connection with says its supposely for a nissan/datson. Ive seen a picture of it and it looks like a knob that would have been used on our cars back in the 70s. What do u think. Take a chance and buy it and hope to god its the right size threads?
  18. Very random question, but do our cars share shifter knob threads with any other makes? Reason i ask is i have a line on a shift knob but its not for a Subaru. All i know its its for another japanese car. So i guess do other Japanese cars share shift knob threads with our cars and if so which ones?
  19. Um random thought...take the bulb out for the ECS light? If its a urgent thing that could work temporarily.
  20. If this car was mine i would start it and let the Y pipe get really hot. Then try to unthread it. If that doesnt work spray it with PB blaster. Let it sit overnight. Spray again the next day and then try again. If you see movement then there is definate hope.
  21. I had this problem on my camaro. The right front turn signal burned out and it was shattered. I went through a big puddle and it splashed up. The only thing i could think of is that the bulb was very hot and got some cold water splashed on it. Not sure if that is what happened but I couldnt think of anything else.
  22. Ive never really liked the idea of adding something to a system that wasnt designed for it. Coolant and only coolant is ok to put in IMO. That Stop leak stuff can clog up the engine passages and such. I wouldnt trust it but thats just me. If i have a leak i find out where its coming from and replace that piece. Just my 2 cents.
