Need Honest Opinion....Reality Check
hatchsub replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Rare enough for me to want a set of sedan louvers..as long as they dont rattle around a ************load. My old IROC had rear window louvers to start out with and i hated the things. Did nothing but rattle above 100mph -
Need Honest Opinion....Reality Check

There is another option too that ill throw out there. Last time i was at Charlies he had an XT and an XT6 in his yard. Both looked pretty nice as far as rust goes. I didnt actually crawl underneith them though to find out for sure. You might want to call him up and see. Maybe use your engine and tranny in another better body..that way the heart of Rocky can live on. -
I just have a T fitting from the PCV up to to bottom of the airbox. Im getting some oil in the carb air cleaner. My engine is no where near worn out being that its only got 73,000 miles on it. My car is an 83 subaru with an EA81. Sorry should have mentioned that PCV valve is an aftermarket NAPA one that i installed about 2 years ago now. Could that be the cause of it all? Ive heard that factory is the only way to go with these little things.

Hey just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of how to route the PCV valve hoses so that i dont get oil in my air filter housing. I have a weber carb and routed the tubing similar to how everyone else on here has. I have both valve covers connected by a tube. Then i have a tube coming up from the PCV to that main tube. Off of this tube i have one running up to the carburator air box. Is there a better way of doing this? I was told this is the normal way of hooking up the PCV since it mimics the factory routing.

+1. I agree its probably the alt. Replace it and your problem should go away. What is your volt gauge reading?

hmmm good job redline lol. Ok ill switch them around when i get a chance. Ill also get a new top gasket. Cant do anything on it today since its snowing outside. Thanks GD. -
Hey Skip how do you have your PCV system hooked up? I see a breather on the passenger side but i cant see whats going on on the drivers side. Is it just going straight to the pcv?

GD are you sure that the top two are in the correct order? I just checked my weber and the secondary air bleed is a 160 and the primary is a 170. If that is the right order could that be affecting my performance and in what way? Also after reading all the posts about the top gasket i checked and mine is the incorrect one. I guess im ordering a correct one soonish. -

Need Info, Fast! WHEEL SIZE?
hatchsub replied to TheBush's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you ask that they might not know what your talking about. Pug stands for Peugeot. You want the wheels off of one of those cars. -

Yea sounds good to me Jon. I'm assuming we have to square that away with Connie if her place is still the middleground for us. -

Or welding in my case . Joooooonnn. Oh Jon -
I would think that there would be two choices to fixing this. Both involve pulling the manifold. The first is to get a tap and tap new threads and put a slightly bigger fitting into the manifold. Reason i say remove the manifold is that you dont want all those metal shavings to fall into the intake and get sucked into the engine. The second idea would be to get a junkyard intake. At least that would be my thought process at that point. There is a third possiblity. If its something that you dont need then u could just JB weld the hole shut temporarily until you get another manifold...or until you get around to pulling the maniford to retap the threads.

Yup carter weber sucks. I had one on my car when i first got it and it never really ran right. Then i swapped manifolds and installed a hitachi. It ran lightyears better with that carb. Then i did the full upgrade and went with a 32/36 weber. That along with the 5 speed and free flowing exhaust have transformed my car from slow to reasonable fun to drive. lol

Thanks Skip. Ive always wanted a vintage Campy bike with Columbus tubing but could never afford it (well i could just could never justify spending that much) until this deal came along. It was too good to pass up. -

Looks even better now. I touched up the scratches on the frame and polished the whole frame and fork. The bike is slowely being put back together. Both hubs have been repacked with new grease. The bottom bracket has been repacked. The headset has been repacked. I need another freewheel and i need to clean up some more parts but its on its way. Oh and i need to true up the wheels a bit. Not close enough for me yet. Im a perfectionist when it comes to bikes. By the time its done it will look close to new and ride just as well. -

I would look at the wiring on the White Brat and see what needs to be put back to stock on your Brat. That fan should not be on full time. It will take longer to warm up meaning you get bad gas milage as well as wearing the fan out prematurly. The stock fan coming on when it should will keep your car in the right temperature setting. -
Im going to build on what i said earlier and say that I dont think its fair to compare a Weber to SPFI. Its like comparing apples and oranges. Both have there drawbacks and advantages. Some people like webers and some like SPFI. lets leave it at that before this turns into a ************ throwing contest.

Old school. Me like -
Im not going to take sides but I will offer my opinion on the Weber Vs SPFI topic. I have a weber and it took me awhile to finally get it tuned well but i can honestly say the car is not the same with a weber. It is much more reliable than with the hitachi. The low end torque is better as well. Ive read on her that the low end torque is slightly better with a weber than with SPFI but the big advantage of SPFI is that no cold start carb problems. The weber is easier and you get about the same gas milage if not a hair less than with SPFI. But...SPFI is the way to go if you want a more modern running car. Its all up to you. SPFI is cheaper and more modern but the weber is slightly simpler. Both are good. Ive thought a bit about SPFI but am not interested in the amount of wiring involved.

EA82 sway bar on an EA81 sedan?
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh ok thats more work than i was hoping for lol. I dont have any welding experience or a welder so a rear swaybar is out of the question for now at least.
